That being said, he is not a maxi-bag like Kasich, who is so intent on a snub he did not even show up to the convention hosted by his own state. I think this was explicitly what Cruz was doing. Everyone booing him here and at the convention just reinforced for a lot of NeverTrumpers what they thought of them in the first place.
He tried to pave a path for NeverTrumpers would be able to pull the lever by not explicitly endorsing Trump (Which many people who have problems with Trump would have seen as a sell out.) He laid out all of the reasons why letting Hillary win was a very bad idea, from Anti-cop stuff to Islamic terrorism to Immigration.
He ticked off every Trump policy without explicitly endorsing Trump- which again, NeverTrumpers would have considered selling out. Hell, half of Trump fans would be saying things like "Hey, Cruz got his knees dirty now that Trump won, eh?"
He tried to lay out a reasoned argument for unity against Hillary, and a lot of trolls are doing their damnedest to make sure that argument gets slapped away.

After reading the comments here, can I assume that the party is roiled at Cruz and will withdraw support?
I already understand that this campaign has wiped away the evangelicals' devotion to faithful candidates that are singularly focused on their pet issues - huge numbers of Christians support Trump. So that's gone, and I believe will no longer be a part of the Republican platform.
So are the Constitutionalists now fading from the party, too? Who else, other than Cruz, has a history of standing by the Constitution and will be the next to be shown the door? Where will they likely go?

Dad's still in the hospital, but he's off support, and is awakening, slowly but surely.
The doctors are shocked and impressed, which humbles me to see that the people who have saved him didn't even realize how well he'd be. The word "miracle" has been used, which I know is not a word thrown around hospitals all that frequently.

Haven't watched a minute of the convention, so not much to say on the latest dust-up, except that it seems if you are going to speak prime time you should be endorsing the nominee. Its really the whole point of the convention.

I played bass for an old country music start long ago. He had his own sporting show American Sportsman I think it was. He and the guy who put the trip together fish and hunt with the Nuge. Two videographers coming, sounds like they are shooting a fishing show episode.

I have seen what you mean. A lot of people in 'politics' are into politics. The party really does not matter as much as conniving with your fellow professionals in telling other people what to do in their lives, and cops with guns to back it up.
One example - A somewhat famous conservative commentator's spouse was an Obama team insider. During the net presidential administration their positions may change 180 degrees (but I doubt it, more likely their public positions will remain unchanged).

That was an amazing speech, almost perfect. Cruz had everyone there on his side. He was already the runner-up in this primary, which is often a good place to be for the next primary in the GOP. Then, well, that blatant non-endorsement.
Look, Ted Cruz could have finessed a call to vote for Trump that wasn't technically an endorsement. Everything prior to the end of that speech indicated a level of skill where he could do it.
He didn't do so, on purpose.
He hurt the causes and values he endorsed in his speech, and helped Hillary Clinton in the election, because he was personally offended by Trump.
Well, no kidding. Trump can be an enormous jerkass and definitely was to Cruz.
But you know what? No one held a gun to Ted Cruz's head and made him go out on that stage. He could have stayed home, pulled a Kasich, told the RNC he needed to wax his banjo and upgrade the video card on his cat that night. Whatever. No one seems particularly exercised about Kasich ditching, and everyone is well aware that Trump was much meaner to Cruz.
What he did was revolting. If he hated Trump that much, and he had reason, he should have stayed home. Don't force Gingrich to run damage control and give the media a storyline and, you know, help Hillary Clinton.
Ugh.
Tilikum, politics ain't beanbag, but that wasn't politics. That was just spite, hurting his own prospects just to hurt Trump.

No government in decades has actually governed in a way that remotely complies with the Constitution. .
And so, the Constitution issue primarily comes down to the supreme court, hoping we get enough judges to some day have rulings that require govt to abide by the Constitution. On that issue Trump is basically willing to give conservatives what they want. See his list of supreme court picks.

Not necessarily; one's reaction to Ted Cruz's speech is pretty much parallel to how one views Trump. If you think he's a piece of shit (like many conservatives reluctantly voting for him), you'll probably either support Ted's speech or find his actions counter-productive but emotionally satisfying. Either way, it probably won't negatively impact his conservative support. Trump fans may become hypocritically NeverCruz, but they probably weren't going to vote for someone so "creepy", anyway.
His Presidential ambitions may or may not have been impacted, but he has probably solidified his support among the conservative wing of the party. At worst, he's gone back into the briar patch in a stronger position to organize conservative resistance to the GOPe and Trump wings of the party.

And Cruz was far from perfect. There was TPP/ immigration squishiness, that pathetic response to the leftist meltdown at the Trump rally in Chicago, and numerous other signs.
He's an overly-ambitious politician but still a valuable ally. I hope the folks in TX keep him in the senate ruffling feathers for a few decades. It's a good place for him.

Interesting though that Trump supporters interpret a very upbeat speech that mentioned Trump almost not at all and urged people to support people up and down ticket who "you trust to defend our freedom and to be faithful to the Constitution" as an attack on their Orange Overlord. It is almost as if they, too, realize that Trump will not defend our freedom and be faithful to the Constitution.

First Even though i voted constitution Party last election and never before that i plan on voting trump this year unless he starts wearing pantsuits and talking about dmv waiting rooms as indoctrination opportunities.
My sense from cruz speech was he stuck to his principles speech and ignored the chanters. Same what i would have done if it was say jeb getting the nom. The booers at the end did seem louder and may have outnumbered the original chanters?
I saw Trump had arrived and started down stairs., while cruz closing was dragging looked like ego jostling to me between the two men. 4me/shrug nothingburger hey we wanted natural fighters these tiffs are part of the package when you put two of them against each other. We arent the lady dems this happens.
Thought id put my thoughts down as i watched in case someone wanted to know what one of us not on team trump or team jacob or team cruz thought.
