12 Good Morning Morons. Today is Thursday, April 07, 2016. On this day in 1922 the Teapot Dome scandal occurred. The United States Secretary of the Interior leased Teapot Dome petroleum reserves in Wyoming to cronies through bribery. It was a tempest in the teapot as the secretary of the interior was convicted of leasing the oil fields to oil companies after getting bribes for lower rates. He went to jail. Scankles bribery events while SoS make these look like nickel and dime operations. Of course like always this was a Republican administration while Scankles is a Democrat.

Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes.

For a long time, I was a fan of Broadway musicals, but over the years, as they turned from entertainment to didactic, humorless SJW rant pieces, I gave up (the last show I saw on Broadway that I unabashedly loved was Titanic in 1997; the last show I ever saw on Broadway was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in 2005, an awful, vulgar, nasty piece of work).

All that is to say that I came across a little nugget of information that you might be able to drop into a conversation sometime; it seems that the natives of Aruba, as well as of Curacao and Bonaire, speak a polyglot language called "Papiamento." And in that language, the wonderful 1956 Lerner-Loewe musical My Fair Lady goes under the name of Laizo Porko Sushi.

Which, translated literally back into English, is Liza Dirty Pig.

So let's have a picture of the loverly Audrey Hepburn at the Ascot Opening Day (the slightly obscured fellow peering over her right shoulder is the future (IMO) definitive Sherlock Holmes, Jeremy Brett):

He teamed up with about 5 others and they made care packages for the homeless. It had a bottle of water, a breakfast bar, package of crackers, rain poncho, and prayer card. The plan was when you see someone with a sign for homeless please give to give them that. They made about 10 or 12 bags. Sad part is to my knowledge none have been given out, they want money not a care package.

That was Ford, but yeah. Thing is, you do get that "we are better than you, smarter than you" vibe from New Yorkers, particularly the NYC types. And having been there, I must say I was not impressed. Despite their boasts, I didn't come away with the impression that they were "better" or "smarter" than the rest of us. Quite the opposite, in fact. And Christ almighty, finding a good looking woman in that town was like pulling chicken's teeth. Geez...

So screw them and their being butthurt over Cruz's "New York values" comment, as he was simply stating the truth. Besides, how smart can the population of any state be that would elect someone like the PIAPS to the Senate? Not very, in my estimation....

"I will not have it butchered!" - Norma Desmond

I love that movie and I love the musical (though, like all Andrew Lloyd Webber shows, it falls apart in the second act). I never did see it on Broadway, since, by the time it got there, original Norma Patti LuPone had been dumped for Glenn Close, whom I have never been able to stand.

I will say, though, that - in my admitted musical ignorance - ALW wrote a much better "main title" for the musical than Franz Waxman did for the movie. I never see the opening credits of Sunset Boulevard without wishing I could somehow combine Wilder's movie with the ALW music.

A by-the-way story that I've told before: Boulevard leading man William Holden was well-known as a ladies' man, and someone once asked him if he - 32 at the time - had had an affair with the 51-year old Gloria Swanson. Holden quipped that he and Swanson worked together as professionals; it was Swanson's mother who was randy for him!

That's what I suspected. The American College of Pediatricians is a largely conservative group that split off from the American Academy of Pediatrics. The ACP has only been around since 2002. It arose out of dissatisfaction among some Pediatricians with the hard left bent of the AAP.

As evident from my link at #122 the AAP is full on in support of parents "following the child's lead" in gender determination issues. They also cite horribly flawed "research" in support of their harsh gun control stance.

I renounced my membership in the AAP several years ago.

The AAP probably has 70,000 members and is the "go to" source for media outlets. The ACP on the other hand has maybe a couple thousand members and is largely ignored by MSM.

What a maroon. There are only two or three planets in our solar system that you can see with the naked eye. The rest of those things are lit, gaseous balls, i.e., "stars" So simple odds tell you you are more likely to "wish upon a star" than a planet.

166 Anxiously awaiting my SIL bringing over my "project car".

We picked up the wife's new Acadia last week, my daughter bought her old ('12) one, the SIL gets her old ('0 Acadia and I get his old ('06) Mercury Mountaineer. This is the SUV I bought for my (then unmarried) daughter when she moved to North Carolina for college.

Full circle.

Now I get to play with this and make it into my weekend, go down to the pond vehicle.

I used to have a Izuzu Trooper for that, but an old friend fell on hard times and needed a car.

Searching the internet now for neat things to put on. Looking for a neat light bar for the roof and new wheels.

See, there is life outside of politics.

Because it weakens societal cohesion, it further erodes common values and muddies acceptable moral precepts and expectations.

Expect no need of it at this point and in fact, it never was used a single time this season. I have never seen a winter like this before and am quite happy that my 3 last months of commuting to work were not the usual terror that is winter driving in Michigan. God bless global warming.

It's called mental illness. They get these fixed ideas on how to kill themselves that are weird.

I always think of Robt Oppenheimer's girlfriend, who was a psychiatrist and killed herself. She took a bunch of drugs, filled the bathtub, put a pillow on the floor, kneeled on it, and waited until she was too drozy, her torso falling in, and she drowned.
