The key to understanding the two seemingly conflicting messages is to remember both are about control. Encouraging kids to engage in a lot of sex with random people, experiment and whatnot is about getting them to abandon privacy, self-control so that they are better tools of the state (especially is they don;t form lasting relationships, families - a nation of Julias). Modern education, preschool through college, has been a disaster for males.
It simply is not designed to accommodate typical male behaviors at any age from toddler on upward.
Males are supposed to act like girls, essentially.
Many are unable to achieve this, and drop out in one way or another.

What they do is normalize the concept of guilty until proven innocent (or even guilty regardless of innocence) in college, so it becomes acceptable to do so outside of college.

They converted everything to digital even the basic channels.
and they raised the rate. the topper(s) was when the box they gave me was a clunky POS (I had a digital TV yet I had to GLUE a sensor over the IR channel sensor for the box to work and then the final indignity the damn thing didn't work.
Took it back for replacement and the person behind the shield (here in PA they use a clear plexiglass shield. bullet proof I assume cause it's about an inch thick. And that tells you all you need to know about their customer service) was so confused and couldn't figure out how to get me a new kit that I just told her to cancel my service. Still took her 5 minutes to do that. AND it took 3 months to get my refund and to finally stop having a bill sent to me.
And they wonder why people hate them. (this was CumCast BTW)

In Virginia, they just passed a law last year that would have all such young men's transcript marked with information about their "rapiness" so they are likely not to be able to finish school somewhere else. Young men so accused have lost Rhodes Scholarships and other educational opportunities. Young men have also lost job opportunities and been made pariahs.
So... likely not a situation where they should be expected to flip off their persecutors and get on with their lives.

I will admit to being that a**hole a few times, but I don't like to make it a habit. I will say they have a way to short circuit that now. Another trick I learned is to "jump the bid".
I was after a Garand op rod that was exactly what I needed and it was hard to come by. Two guys were duking it out and had bid it up to $115.
I bid $140 and it seemed to scare them off. It's on my Garand now.

I did get my degree. I had to apply for readmission. Go before an academic board of about a dozen professors and admins. I make my statement, then get peppered with questions until they get tired of it.
Now, the reason I failed at law school was not because I lacked the necessary intelligence or skills, it was that I was miserable and didn't put forth the effort necessary.
So talking my way back in wasn't that bad. Not only did I get back in, but they waved the normal one year waiting period and let me back in for the very next semester. So I only finished up a semester late.
I have no tequila, but I'm already into the booze. I'll take a hit with you.
Anybody got a toast or am I finding something?

Saw this show the other nite on Natgeo. Law show. Guy supposedly shot an intruder. Initially I was pissed at him. Don't tal without a lawyer. Then later the cops came back unannounced with a 2nd car to pick up,the victims car. He had them lined up in his sights. He was charged with a felony for pointing the gun at them.,has the dam cops called there would have been no altercation

Ultimately, I finished out. Took and passed the Florida Bar. Started sending out resumes and going on interviews here locally.
At the same time I was working in the family business for my dad and grandfather. Started as just a way to get a paycheck while the other stuff was going on.
I realized that I didn't mind the work they did at all. Which came as a surprise. Then came the convincing of my dad and grandfather that I should abandon all the education and expense and go to work for them.
That was not a lot of fun.

The blown tranny was Acura's fault. Turns out Honda/Acura did not know how to build the damned things until about 2010 or later.
I discovered my tranny is the lemming of trannys. 40k miles and poof after a top notch rebuild. Death at 40-60k was not unusual.
Buy a Toyota is my advice.

They simply extended the warranty, but really didn't fix anything and it took about 4 years before they got the problem corrected.

My rule of thumb has long been that Japanese-built Toyota products are the only cars I'd buy in the first year of any new model. Nothing else, not even US-built Toyotas.
But Toyotas, these days, are (a couple $50K+ Lexes aside) by and large boring and weirdly-shaped junk with unpleasant ergonomics, difficult to see out of and cheaply trimmed. So they're completely off the list anyway.

Sad state of the world. The cost of living has so far outpaced wages that a lot of people can't get by on their own anymore. I blame the globalists and the employers of illegals for that. Not only are there less jobs, but more workers competing for the ones that are still there. It's bad for everyone.

My mechanic has used him for a while and I have had that mechanic 20+ years. My friends and family use him too thanks to me.
I discovered that I worked with the daughter of the former owner of the place. Hell, her brother even had a hand in the rebuild. The trans shop has a good reputation. Acura just totally blew it on the design.
Lubrication doesn't get to where it needs to and clutch packs die.

There was another article by someone who re-ran the original numbers on the Mariel boatlift. There was some study, taken as seminal gospel by the open borders and MOAR IMMIGRATION types that that the influx of low skilled Cubans did not depress the low-skilled American job market.
His analysis found just the opposite, and then he went on to detail how the original work fudged the numbers.
IOW, the data is showing the free-trade/open borders mantra has been a big lie on the scale of globull warming.

If you know your neighbors well enough to know that they're decent people who'll pay you first before worrying about their other expenses, and not psychotic, I'd say you could probably take the chance, though my cynical nature says an ironclad renter's agreement is absolutely necessary.
I've been a room renter for the past two years and it's worked out pretty well for both myself and my landlord, but it's not an arrangement that works for everyone.

It no longer matters what you do for a living, if you're in the private sector; you can be replaced by a cheaper foreign worker. Even if you're a small business owner, government incentives are in place to encourage other entities to do business with "downtrodden minorities" rather than with you.

I live in Silicon Valley. Home of one of the nation's largest homeless encampments (AKA "Obamavilles") During recent rains, many of them washed up into our local supermarket's parking lot. This is supposed to be the one of the most successful counties in California.

I started this because there are tons of good folks in IL that get tarred cause of Shitcago. At least we have a Rep gov now after Blago and that dick Quinn.
We were to PA a couple of yrs ago, loved to see where my family came from. Some from Somerset Co., Lancaster Co. and some from Columbia Co.
All good places to visit.
Good people there we met.

There are influential, well-funded citizens' committees firmly dedicated to goals such as keeping the Valley foothills green. Upon inquiry, you will learn that the citizens in question themselves already own large homes upon nice big spreads in those foothills.
But of course they do not want for the foothills to become entirely green. Heavens no. They'd have to move. What they're trying to avoid is having close neighbors. They're not keen on the idea. Especially not keen to welcome as neighbors those brown folks stuffed into high-density housing down in the Valley flats.

A guy showed up at a car meet around here with an absolutely meticulous Stage I-engined Riv. Correct period license plate and all. Family owned since the showroom. Modern radials on it were one of the few concessions made to Father Time. I think he pumped the original air over from the factory bias-ply tires.

Man, I really hope the FCC new set-top box competition plan comes to fruition. It is ridiculous what some people pay for a stupid box and it is pure profit to the cable companies.
Question for the tech-minded among the horde:
I subscribe to cable -- but for Internet connection only, not for TV.
Never have subscribed to or watched cable TV.
HOWEVER, by sheer crazy chance, I recently came into possession of an abandoned and discarded "cable set-top box" with an "M-Card" in it. (Friend of a friend was moving out of the country and just left it behind, and no one else had a use for it.)
The box is pretty old -- I think it dates from 2008. By now pretty obsolete.
I wondered what would happen if I just plugged one end of the box into the cable for my cable internet connection, and then plugged the other end of the box into the TV.
Result?
Well, no free cable TV, but the connection obviously is being made successfully, because when I look at the on-screen "schedule" I can see the full current live on-air list of all the cable shows being broadcast at the moment, plus in many cases little in-screen mini-picture teaser videos of the current or upcoming show this hour.
I thought at first that I got zero channels, but after repeatedly clicking "channel up" from 1 through 999, I actually found four channels that worked -- two Chinese language channels, one public access channel, and one local channel. All viewed though the cable box. Nut none of the expected channels (CNN, stuff like that). The regular channels only give a "poor signal quality" message because they are likely scrambled.
I poked around online forums and supposedly learned that, No, zombie, there is simply no way you can "hack" the box to make it work to get you free cable.
I suggested something wacky: Taking the box to the home of a relative (who cooperates with the scheme), plug it into their functional cable TV connection, then calling Comcast and telling them there's something wrong with the signal and to resend the "refresh/unscramble" signal down the line to update the box's firmware. THEN, unplug the box, restore the relative's original cable box, and then take my updated box home, and plug it in, and just maybe it would then work!
But no, I was informed: You MUST tell Comcast the serial number of the device, because that is required for the signal they're going to send, and when they see the serial number, they're going to know that the box doesn't "belong" at the relative's house, it belongs with the now-overseas friend of a friend. And that technically, the box probably belongs to Comcast, and that it's rented (the topic of the linked article above) and they're wondering what happened to the subscriber who left the country and never returned the equipment. So instead f sending the signal I want, they'd demand the return of the box, or send a bill for its cost to my unwitting relative.
So that plan was jettisoned.
So, I ask ye: Is there ANY way to get this thing to work as I intend? If a person has a cable connection (which has the TV signal in it, as well as the Internet), and one has a box to receive it, is there ANY way to make that box capable of descrambling the signal, other than having the cable company send the update to the box?
Or is it a completely lost cause?

I'd suggest BitTorrent, but that has been s**t lately since IsoHunt went down and all the problems with Pirate Bay. It's become harder to hunt stuff down.

It's not as simple nor as safe as it was before cable tv went full digital.
I can think of some schemes that might "share" a virtual box across several time zones, but they're likely to be impractical. You could try and reverse-engineer the box -- which, BTW, almost certainly runs LINUX internally -- and have it decode things with your friend's credentials.....but you couldn't get the cable company to send content to your location.
To get a little technical, here....regular internet, AKA IP4, maps things to addresses that are four 0-255 numbers long. Sort of like having 256 cities with 256 streets and 256 intersecting avenues, each having a skyscraper with 256 floors. That's a metric fuckton of addresses (4,294,967,296, to be exact) -- but, you'll note, this is significantly less than the population of the earth (7,300,000,000).
And in much of the world, everyone has a whole bunch of internet-widgets: your cellphone, each of your computers, your televisions, your roku, your tablet, etc. And then there are industries using internet-connected devices. Large blocks of these addresses are reserved for special situations.
In short, every IP4 address -- which are limited by mathematics -- probably has at least 100 folks that want to use it. The way this is handled is that the routers on the ends of this communication do an extra split based on who is supposed to be talking to who.
Accordingly, if you call the right city, the right street and avenue, and get to the right floor of the skyscraper, the router for that floor asks, "do you want Mr. Smith in 103 or Ms. Jones in 108?" It's likely to be flummoxed if it's asked to connect to Mr. Zombie in 207. So, even if you get past the descrambling thing -- there's no guarantee that the signal will get piped to you.

I actually ran the operations for a business that made equipment for CATV operators, and we were doing multichannel AM over fiber -- some channels scrambled. But I doubt if that's done in many places any more. There's only room for about 100 conventional AM channels in a fiber -- but if everything goes digital and is switched, 400 channels is reasonable. If you're getting internet from a CATV provider, I'm figuring you're probably digital/switched.

1. Prithee, don't take my observation as any attempt to claim authority on the subject -- I was doing "cutting edge" stuff in the 90's and went on to other things. What I am saying is that "transmitting a bunch of channels on usual analog channel spacing, some scrambled" is old technology -- and my belief is that it was all swept away with the big digital turnover.
2. Any work of man can be undone. The question is: what resources would you bring to the undoing? The cable companies are bringing corporate-level resources to try to lock you out of their encryption.
3. Maybe you're making this too hard. Let's say you have a friend who regularly watches a program you want to watch. Build a DVR at your friend's house and stream it to yourself over the internet.

And there are a couple of surprising folks among the recipients -- e.g. Norman Borlaug, who has done more to shape the modern world for the better than....well, arguably than anyone else in history. For much of the 20th century, it was Borlaug vs. Malthus -- and Borlaug kicked ass.

I found out today that the crazy hoarder lady down the street isn't crazy at all. She just hates people, like me.
My Saturday will consist of a few hours under her house replacing the last few floor joists, then trying to talk her out of one of the 5 riding mowers rusting away in her backyard.
Well, that's after I go across the street to empty the rat traps in Shirley's garaage. She's grossed out just looking at them, so won't touch them.
Not sure, but I might be a sucker...

Was reading an article yesterday about a town in Sweden that is being plagued by roving gangs of "refugee" thugs -- most of whom are Moroccan. Think the government of Morocco is just going to wave these crooks back in? It will be like the Mariel boatlift -- any country stupid enough to let another country dump its criminals, sick, insane, terminally lazy, etc., on it is going to be stuck with them forever.
