i don't think they were on the pro side of gamergate, but I'm always surprised that every time Elementary goes into some political intrigue (which is frequent, actually), they write the episode in such a way as to not piss me off at all. They legitimately do not take sides, and the introduction of a political point is not *for* the political point, but just to establish motive, explore some organization, etc. The show is really very, very even-handed. I keep expecting to get suck-punched, and they keep on not sucker-punching me. Posted by: ace at January 05, 2016 07:06 PM (dciA+) Posted by: Feh at January 05, 2016 07:06 PM (Uk9e2) 69

I learned some new stuff about Peyronie's Bill today. His "signature" is biting the upper lip of (at least) four women he lured.
He also grabbed the boob of a law student and was reported for an attack in Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. Also! He did not graduate from Oxford, yet blathers about being chosen, yada (it said 96% graduate, but not ole points to the left). Hillary was aware of one attack, real time. She went screeching to someone about that mf bill and what he'd done now!! Later, with the girl, she THANKED her. Grabbed her arm, and scared the girl...sort of a threat. Yet she thinks she is a protector of wimmen's rights...I guess as long as they don't involve ole red nose. During the 2008 campaign he was sort of tracked in his behavior, and she told Barry she had no control over him. Ok! This in addition to his hanging out with child pedophiles and riding in their private jets and orgies and all sorts of crap to clog my mind. We are in good hands, y'all! That's got to be one of the worst excuses that an episode can offer: "Hey, don't worry that the plot became offensive at this point, because by now you will have stopped caring since the entire episode is incomprehensible and purposeless!" i don't know how objectionable the politics are, though -- I mean, no one, as far as I know, is currently an anti-women's-suffrage agitator, so how can a show set in 1895, with a sentiment in favor of women's suffrage, really be controversial today? I mean, we're not on that side of "the suffrage question" are we? I mean, I think I know what you mean; these progs always find analogies to the CURRENT politics in the past, and then use the past's politics as metaphor for the present; but taking the episode literally, it stands for the proposition that women should be equal and that when they weren't legally or socially equal it was a bad thing, and it's hard to argue with that *literal* message. That said, the solution was stupid either way. It is preposterous that a woman begins killing men and pretending to be a ghost to, by some means unexplained, convince men to be nice to women and give them the vote. "I was convinced from everything revealed in advance that it would be a standalone, fun little Victorian mystery. But Moffat cannot help himself so he craps all over it and tries to tell five different stories at once, while fanservicing/fantrolling the audience. I award him no points. But the Victorian setting was gorgeous, and until feminist KKK moment was fun. (No better image of female SJWs though!) The implication being that, hey, since during the Industrial Revolution people were forced to work six or seven days per week in the factory, you need to totally support the unions NOW, 150 years later, because we did something good long long ago! Same with feminism. The modern progressives always argue, "Since we helped to bring an end to awful 1950s sexism, you MUST support our 21st-century agenda as well!" "260 My problem with Elementary this season is that the smartest detective ever seems to have fallen for every lefty lie that he can swallow. His "smart" is now the Hillaryized definition.
Posted by: geoffb5 at January 06, 2016 12:45 AM (d3wbb)" Ugh. I gave up on it after the second season. They were already flirting with the "Magical Asian Woman" trope a little too much for comfort but in appreciation of the superb performance by Johnny Lee Miller, I let it slide. In the end, however, when they force-shifted Watson's character into Holmes's deductive equal, I could take no more. She became a New-Wave Feminist wet dream of everything they believe a female character should be. She was the episodic personification of every woman in every TV commercial who is burdened with an idiot husband. This is why I will always prefer Sherlock over Elementary. Watson is supposed to serve as a cipher for the audience. A sort of normal person whom we can relate to and view the fantastic elements of Holmes and his world. There was never supposed to be anything hyper-competent or special about him. He was us, the Everyman. Martin Freeman is leaps and bounds closer to this ideal than Lucy Liu. This is also why I loathed the new Star Wars film. Rey as perfect Goddess and feminist wish-fulfillment is boring. She's an expert pilot, speaks at least four languages (one of which is wookie!?!?), an expert mechanic, a crack shot, morally pure and righteous, lethal hand to hand combatant, oh and also picks up the nuances of the Force in about 5 minutes of screen time. Wake me when she breaks a nail. Posted by: Lamont Cranston at January 06, 2016 01:05 PM (Rtyzj) Processing 0.03, elapsed 0.0378 seconds. |
