They specifically say there is "no specific threat" to the school or students.
But they're closing the school anyway. Actually, they're shutting down the whole district. Which I take as an attempt to shift attention from their bad behavior to fantasized bad behavior on the part of their critics. Like so: Us: You shouldn't make kids write "Allah is god," the same as I assume you would never make them write "Jesus is Lord." Them: But this was in Arabic. They didn't know what they were writing. Us: They found out pretty quick. Would you make Muslim kids write "Jesus is Lord"-- Them: But we didn't tell them what they were writing! Us: You didn't let me finish: Would you make Muslim kids write "Jesus is Lord" in Latin? "Dominum Iesum?" How's that hit you? Does that touch you someplace special? Them: ... Us: Or how about in Ancient Greek? Or in Aramaic? Or even -- God forbid -- Hebrew? Them: That's different. Us: In what way? Them: ... Us: The real difference is that you feel that you may and should pummel Christian kids into being "open minded" about faiths not their own, but you'd be very protective of Muslim kids' religions autonomy wouldn't you? If the purpose is to teach calligraphy - and we will suspend disbelief and pretend that we believe that to be the case - teach Chinese/Japanese calligraphy, and tie it in with the meaning of the ideographs (which are stylized representations of the concept they convey).
Much more interesting, and instructive, than reproducing the trail of a wounded flea across a piece of paper.

That is one thing that can drastically change a man's political outlook. It doesn't last much beyond the first 6 months or so like any affair. (2 years tops is average) But while he's enthralled he'll echo her politics.
I'm also assuming she's younger (this is a evolutionary thing nothing personal to you men will always go after a younger female if they stray. It's nature.) and thus has more liberal viewpoint as well as being surrounded by others of similar ilk.
It doesn't help his family has already liberalized him and being married to you has probably been rubbed in his face more than once.
If everything else is okay (no violence, money is okay, takes care of work etc) I would give it enough time to be sure it's happening and then let him know you know and then you have to make some choices depending on what he says he wants to happen. Worse thing to do is lay down ultimatums. That's a challenge.
Ask for temporary separation. Let him spend more time with the bimbo and he might find out she's as shallow as a mud puddle and as boring as watching grass grow. And then again he might not.
Be prepared for either. As to his family, that's just inexcusable what they said to D'oh boy. Remind him of us here cheering him on. He's not alone and those people (her) are wrong.
Good luck but don't take it personal (I know easy to say, hard to do) it's not personal. It's hormones and evolution plus a bit of propinquity if he met her through their job.
I'm hoping I'm wrong but since I'm a guy, the signs are there for me and others to see.

There's no need to spend a shitload anyway. Appliances fall into three categories. Samsung and GE are at the top of the lower third. The middle third is neither here nor there, the stuff is basically always on sale, and if you aren't a professional chef there's really no cause to pay top dollar for the top third German stuff (or Viking; Wolf just got acquired, bye guys) unless you're trying to spend six figures on your kitchen.
Just make sure whatever oven you're buying has metal knobs and brass instead of aluminum, and the sales rep knows the name and phone number of the service guy.

Over several days worth of protest I finally managed to get her to load and unload my S&W M&P with snap caps, and taught her the 4 rules of gun safety. She's a teacher, so I pretty much shut her down with "you need to learn so you're empowered and not scared"
The range date is coming up. I have a sweet HiStandard 22 rifle that she'll fall directly in love with and probably steal from me.

My brother found this out as well with his fairly liberal wife (both her parents are professors...shoot me!), before you know it she wanted her own custom hello-kitty AR, and between that and being around his army buddies and some years passing she's reached the quite tolerable stage, still liberal tendencies but can't stand Obama. So it's a start and common ground to work from.

The one we belong to has sports teams, music and drama groups, classes, and a good-sized library with a lend-and-borrow section for things like science and art supplies. That sort of thing --- plus tons of moral support, advice, and socializing!

Me too. But no one actually "persuaded" me to change my thinking. It was a variety of factors.
One thing was back in the mid-80s when I briefly worked in a venetian blind factory. I was only there a couple of months before I found a better job. The woman who worked on the machine next to me was an honest-to-God John Birch Society member, the only one I have ever met.
We talked politics and disagreed on pretty much everything. But she was a very nice lady and we got along fine. There was nothing sexual about it either, since she was twice my age and married. But I had been led to believe that JBS members were raving hateful lunatics, and she was anything but. That was one thing that made me go "hmm".
A few years later I met a Libertarian and we got into a discussion about the minimum wage. I wanted it to be raised and he didn't believe it should exist at all. He said, "Well, why not raise it to $20/hour and make everybody rich?" That was an absurd figure at the time, but he made his point.
I voted for Clinton in 1992 mainly because Bush 41's "New World Order" rhetoric creeped me the hell out. Around 1995 I read an op-ed article by Donna Shalala arguing against the legalization of marijuana, which I had supported for years. I felt a certain betrayal about that article.
Then in the late 90s I discovered Ayn Rand. I don't remember what prompted me to read her books. I can't remember anyone recommending them to me. But I read "The Fountainhead" and then devoured her collections of nonfiction essays. I didn't get to "Atlas Shrugged" until later.
Ayn Rand played a huge role. If anybody "persuaded" me, it was her. I like to say that she systematically demolished my most cherished beliefs and assumptions, then proceeded to rebuild them on a stronger foundation.

That's great. I'm glad she likes it They have some very fine teachers at the one near me. I think they might get paid less than public school but you can design your own curriculum. They obviously don't requite that you have a teaching certificate (although many teachers do) and you don't have to take time off from teaching to go all the stupid standardized testing.

I agree. The political labels have been twisted and distorted beyond all recognition. Back about 150-200 years ago, a "liberal" was one who supported individual liberty, including economic liberty, which meant free-market capitalism. A "conservative" was one who supported the traditional privileges of the landed aristocracy.
Now liberals, who are really leftists, support speech codes and totalitarian socialism and conservatives support individual liberty and the free market. "Fascists" are considered "right-wing", even though they have always been on the left.
And the "progressive left" are taking us straight back to the days of hereditary nobility and landed aristocracy.

This has nothing to do with Staunton public schools. Virginia cities and counties are entirely separate: the cities are not part of any county. The city of Staunton is completely surrounded by Augusta County, but has no control over it, and Riverheads High School is in the county, not the city. It's ten miles south of downtown Staunton.

Dickie Bell taught at Riverheads for many years, until he was elected to the House of Delegates six years ago. He taught special ed. I've met him a few times, but never had to nerve to ask him if he found arguing with colleagues in Richmond disturbingly like dealing with his special ed students at Riverheads. He has a reputation as quite conservative. All the liberals in Staunton despise him. As a party-line voter, I haven't bothered to check the genuineness or depth of his conservatism. He was reelected last month with 75% of the vote. Another 24% went to a Libertarian. The Democrats didn't bother to nominate an opponent. It is quite a conservative area.

You really didn't. The prequels essentially ruin the surprise of the originals. And they didn't need to. I came up with an easy solution. Give Obi Wan another apprentice. Have him fall to the dark side as well. Him and anakin both are fought and beaten badly left near death. Leave mystery as to who is in the Vader suit. Have a scene where Kenobi sees Vader and a look of horror on his face when he realizes who is in it.

Followed by a semi-interesting show on arts and crafts which had some interesting segments on hippie potters and a Japanese woodcutting artist making holiday cards and pottery, and then a 15 minute long segment on fake Kwanzaa which is the sorriest excuse for a made up holiday ever. The part about the SF Chinese Holiday parade was very interesting and seemed legit-going back thousands of years compared to TWENTY (20!) for Kwanzaa, celebrated in Chicago of course.

I grew up in Oklahoma when there was no Republican Party there. My grandparents were a big influence in my life. Grandfather was a blue collar worker that thought FDR saved the country. Mom divorced when I was young, so early feminist type. I really had no exposed to conservatism. At some point, after Bill Clinton, it dawned on that aid heard how stupid the Republicans were one too many a time. It started to sink in that I was hearing the same nonsense over and over. And then I started questioning all of it and reading about people that I'd ignored before. At least my momma liked guns! (And for the record, I'm ette not ron. )
