Senate Democrat Report on Torture Is Firm On Key Finding That Senate Democrats Never Heard Anything About This "Torture" Business

Consider the source.

The Democrats are, get this, lying about what they knew, and what they authorized, in the aftermath of 9/11.

I lived through that -- as did all of you -- and I remember that the nation was divided into two camps on using very harsh measures to make sure this didn't happen again:

Those who vocally approved of such harsh measures, and those who silently approved.

But Democrats pretend to be Tough on National Security only for a cycle or two, the 2-4 years necessary to ride out the nation's turn towards a more muscular foreign policy; then they begin lying about their previous lies (when they claimed they were totes in favor of hounding Al Qaeda to the Gates of Hell) and were always for "smart power" or whatever other euphemism they wish to employ for national weakness and submission to totalitarian Islamism.

And so it goes. The Senate Democrat report actually lets the Bush Administration off the hook, which isn't all that weird, when you consider that if they squealed on the rightward part of the Political Class, that part of the Political Class would squeal on the leftward part, and that of course is what the Senate Democrats want to avoid at all costs.

It's okay to have another 9/11, maybe, but they will avoid responsibility at all costs.

"So many people knew what was going on. This wasn't a program that was over one or two weeks in a couple of dark sites," Engel told MSNBC's Ronan Farrow. "Everybody knew about it."

Engel said that some of those implicated told him that they were being used as scapegoats by the Senate Intelligence Committee, led by outgoing Chairwoman Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D., Calif.).

"The CIA was asked to do this; was given authorizations to do this. And now many people involved are saying to me privately, 'Now we're being held out to dry. You asked us to do this, and now the world is coming down on top of it," Engel said.

...

"When you look back, how are you going to remember this? Is it going to be remembered as the period in which the CIA, in secret while lying to the political leadership, beat some people to death and did horrible things and didn't get any results, which is what today's report is suggesting, or was it a period when the country was very nervous, the CIA was asked to do these horrible things, the practice stopped, and then you have the political leadership pretending that it didn’t know anything and trying to wash its hands of the problem."

Jose Rodrigues, a top official leading the nation's post-9/11 interrogation regime, calls the Democrats liars.

The men and women of my former organization, the CIA, are accustomed to frequent and sudden reversals of direction from their political leaders. But the latest twists and turns are especially dramatic.

...

The leaders of the Senate and House Intelligence Committees and of both parties in Congress were briefed on the program more than 40 times between 2002 and 2009. But Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) tried to deny that she was told in 2002 that detainees had been waterboarded. That is simply not true. I was among those who briefed her.

There’s great hypocrisy in politicians' criticism of the CIAs interrogation program. In the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, lawmakers urged us to do everything possible to prevent another attack on our soil. Members of Congress and the administration were nearly unanimous in their desire that the CIA do all that it could to debilitate and destroy al-Qaeda. The CIA got the necessary approvals to do so and kept Congress briefed throughout. But as our successes grew, some lawmakers' recollections shrank in regard to the support they once offered. Here are a couple of reminders.

On May 26, 2002, Feinstein was quoted in the New York Times saying that the attacks of 9/11 were a real awakening and that it would no longer be "business as usual." The attacks, she said, let us know "that the threat is profound" and "that we have to do some things that historically we have not wanted to do to protect ourselves."

...

If Feinstein, Rockefeller and other politicians were saying such things in print and on national TV, imagine what they were saying to us in private. We did what we were asked to do, we did what we were assured was legal, and we know our actions were effective. Our reward, a decade later, is to hear some of these same politicians expressing outrage for what was done and, even worse, mischaracterizing the actions taken and understating the successes achieved.

I know this report is wrong on almost every level because Harry asshole Reid supports it.

Diane Feinstein nearly has a seizure over Snowden revelations and now she exposes us to the world too.

Pretty easy to see Diane was pissed off the CIA was reading her emails and this is the justice she wants.

She is such a special snowflake she can do anything and it is the right thing to do. IIRC Nixon said as much for himself.

Earlier today I talked about a recurring pattern, a good one, I've been noticing.

Cops, police chiefs pushing back and condemning Obama & Co on accusing them of racism (Ferguson).

Military pushing back on the Bergdahl desertion and trading of terrorists.

Military, Navy Seals pushing back on Benghazi.

Similarly, the fraternities pushing back on false rape charges.

Now, this. I don't think the CIA will take this lying down.

Obama and the Democrat Party are attacking men of honor, who have each others back, and believe in America, fight and die for our freedoms.

Feinstein has seen her popularity shrink in California as more revelations about NSA domestic intelligence gathering are revealed.

So let's kick the CIA for what they where told to do in 2001. And none of this reprehensible.

Gulags, concentration camps, terrorist training, beheadings and crucifixions by Salafist Muslim warriors spreading Jihad; all that stuff is reprehensible.

The most recent and coming massacres by ISIL; reprehensible.

Even if exposed, it would be hidden behind the plausible deniability of a "rogue" agent that went off the reservation...political cover only goes so far when you piss off the wrong people!

98 "Feinstein has seen her popularity shrink in California as more
revelations about NSA domestic intelligence gathering are revealed."

I suspect that Commiefornians would re-elect her until she was older than Strom Thurmond, were she so inclined.

The Afghanistan war was hugely unpopular in Commiefornia.

Feinstein voted for that war.

The Iraq war was hugely unpopular in Commiefornia.

Feinstein voted for that war, too.

Feinstein then, after voting for both wars, went on to use her perch on the relevant Senate committee to steer huge, and hugely profitable, "no-bid" contracts for postwar reconstruction to firms controlled by her financier husband. Without disclosing to her home state voters that she was doing so.

You would figure that this would politically incinerate her in CA. Nope. Returned by acclamation. Commiefornia Democrats. 'Nuff said.

135 After Nixon, we had The Church Commission which was an investigation into the actions of the CIA infiltrating anti-war political organizations to see if there was any foreign influence (money). The CIA was prohibited from 'spying on' US Citizens because we just don't do that kind of thing. The FBI did it instead, maybe, or maybe not.

Then there was the first truck bomb in the parking garage of the World Trade Center. I don't remember what happened after that. What did the FBI discover when they investigated? I don't remember any media reports about how the terrorists might try it a second time. Why would they?

Then 9/11 happened. All those democrats who warned us of Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction were totally on board President Bush's plan for retribution. Until Bush went into Iraq, and things got tough.

What's the point? I don't know either. I have a headache and need to get something to eat.

151 Well, the Democrats will not waste an opportunity to hurt the U.S. when they can. Sure, a lot of them probably did tacitly approve, but they hate the country more. They don't care if every single hostage of every single western nation gets brutally beheaded over this disclosure, and they certainly don't care that many U.S. "assets" and intelligence personnel on the ground lose their lives as a result of this either. They don't care! Their so-called "principles" are far more important than the damage that they do. To them, it's "our fault" and America is a horrible, evil, imperialistic nation that must be destroyed. They see the U.S. as the most corrupt and purely evil nation that has ever existed. If you don't believe me, sit down and actually talk to a die hard lib, and they will leave you with no doubt that they hate this country with every fiber of their being.

192 Obama Admits Amnesty Is For Many More Than 5 Million http://dailycaller.com/2014/12/09/obama-admits-12-million-amnesty/ via @dailycaller

President Barack Obama told a group of illegal immigrants in Tennessee that his immigration-law rewrite means "you're not going to be deported."

Obama's admission acknowledged that his Nov. 21 declaration provides a de-facto amnesty for the 12 million illegals living in the United States.

The confession contradicts his many suggestions, and many media reports, that his Nov. 21 amnesty covers only 5 million illegal immigrants whose children have citizenship or green cards.

Other than inside a couple of quotes toward the end of the article, nowhere does the author mention the source of the "scorn" she received. No mention of the words "Muslim" or "Islam". Somehow it doesn't surprise me. Some aspects of the new industry are intriguing, even exciting in it's potential and changes the dynamic of reliance on distribution, old style. But, there is something inherently suicidal in an industry that pretty much eliminates actually owning hard product. There is a danger that the product will become so disposable, that consumers will eventually turn their backs on it it and just listen .... whenever and however. Screw it.

I hear you, I'm pretty much the same. Bought a handful of good albums over the last x decades. It's not that there's nothing out there. There is. But the industry has changed and one of the things that the old label system had in it's favour, for the consumer, was a kind of built in quality filter. Only a certain amount would be released and you perused it via radio play or platters spun at friends places etc... You had, by today's standard, limited choice, but, the acts on sale commonly had a lot of work and time invested in the eventual product... you could always hear something you'd want to buy.
Today there's no filter, so instead of being limited by distribution/promotion muscle, the artist is hampered by noise... there's so much stuff by released, easily, by acts that may not even have played live etc, that it's hard to get noticed. I for one, couldn't be bothered, generally, wading through all this chaff, in the hope of finding something awesome.
There are some wonderful aspects to the new industry, acts that back in the day may not have gotten a look in with the labels, are now getting a fan base directly, with no middle man... but these a very few and far between.

Amen!

My son-in-law is doing recording full-time in his basement. He has a very nice professional setup and produces some good sounding music.

This is music that would have, in the past, never ordinarily ever be produced.

But these bands are paying their own way.

That said, a lot of it is crap. Crappy lyrics.. no bridges or refrains.. a lot of times no chorus. I can live with all that, but the songwriting quality doesn't match up with the musicality, if you know what I mean. It sounds nice, but the songs are crap. Ear candy for the younger generation.
