Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Brutal Shifts in Demographic Groups That Doomed UsI started bolding the important parts but I stopped because it's all bold-faced important. Dmitri Bolt:According to preliminary exit polling data from an SSRS Voter Poll, Latino men shifted 33-points toward Republicans in 2024 before swinging 24 points back toward Democrats in 2026. Latinos overall moved 27-points right before shifting 20-points left last night, while Catholics followed a 25-point Republican swing with a 16-point Democratic reversal. The biggest reversal came among voters ages 18-29, whose 13-point shift toward Republicans in 2024 was overwhelmed by a 35-point swing toward Democrats last night. Suburban voters swung 20 points toward Democrats after moving six points right in 2024, while Asian voters shifted 25 points left after moving 12 points right. The losses also extended to groups often associated with the Republican base. Men shifted four-points toward Republicans between 2020 and 2024, then swung 11 points toward Democrats in the preliminary 2026 results. Voters without a college degree moved 11 points right in 2024 before shifting seven-points back left, while households earning $50,000--$99,999 followed a 20-point Republican shift with an 11-point Democratic reversal. Even rural and small-town voters moved 15-points right before swinging 11 points back toward Democrats.Did the electorate decide we were too "harsh" on immigration by deporting illegals, including dangerous predatory illegal alien criminals? Maybe. Keep in mind, people are stupid and weak-minded. We've seen for decades that the public agrees that taxes should be cut and that the budget should be balanced, but then cry that you're being too meeeean when you actually cut government spending and firing goldbricking federal "workers" at useless money-pits like USAID. They want all the benefits of fiscal sanity without the meeeean actions required to enact it. Similary, the public may have decided they don't like open borders or illegals flooding our nation. But they think it's too meeeean to actually seal the borders and deport the illegals. Remember when Kamala Harris' big contribution as Border Czar was to say to illegals, "Don't come"? It could be that the sad fact is that while the public does want the border secured, the "meanest" action they will accept to secure it is a drunken sixty-year-old ex-partygirl mistress telling people "Don't come." Anything more than that is "extreme." Update: I wonder if, starting six months ago, Trump let up on the deportation raids. And then restarted them after the midterms -- similar to his easing off on Iran with the promise of action after the midterms. It is pretty firmly established that gas prices drove votes. Note that in the below graph, the price of gas is inverted so that high prices are represented by the line going down and low prices are shown by the line going up. It is done this way to show the very close alignment with Trump's approval rate. As the price of gas goes up, Trump's approval goes down. ![]()

To sum up, the Democrats persuaded more people to believe they would do what they say and fix things and so be it.
This is almost a truism. But for example here is what I posted in the last thread: Oh I was amused by this - I was reading a farcebook thread where someone got a bunch of quotes from lefties about how if they took congress they would lower the costs of food, rent, etc and said, "ok you won now deliver on your promises!" Every response from a leftest was some variant on, "Hey we can't fix problems like this in 2 years, in fact, it would probably get worst until we get rid of Trump" The preliminary data supports Alex the Chick's view. But the Dems are already telling people "you gave us such a big win we don't even need to pretend to care about the stuff we told you...suckers!" We don't have a media or culture that says "it's too mean" when the left is actually fucking damaging. It's a waste of time to talk about why, we all know the left has no standards. Overall the voters have the attention span of 6 week old puppy. The Biden admin in 2021 immediately stopped leases for oil and gas drilling on federal lands and offshore, the price of gasoline and natural gas skyrocketed. The price of everything derived from those fuels went up. Food prices went up.
And now the voters, frustrated by gas prices, give the power back to the people who will shut down oil production? A quick internet search told me that Texas produces 42% of US oil. Texas is now in the hands of Democrats. In short order oil production in the Permian basin will be shut off. And voters expect gas prices to fall??? -------- That is a fair take and answers a question I had. But I'm not sure that's how you go from #1 Winning Issue to #1 Losing Issue. Not by betraying the issue but by holding fast to it. I DO see how the GOPe in particular would want it known that Trump wasn't nice enough to illegals. It proves them "right all along" (lot of it going around). But I don't think so. Bush was so nice to illegals he nearly amnestied all of them. And paid for it in 2006. I know, different country. But this was THE winning issue two years ago, not twenty. Great summary, Ace.
Add to this mix emotion driven women (no offense, 'ettes, this isn't about you) who really detest meanness and really, really detest Trump, and who not only vote the Democrat line, but who hammer their husbands and male friends not to be mean. Not to mention the media which still has enormous power, like it or not. During the virus lockdown when oil was trading between $20 and $30, Trump ordered the DOE to fill the SPR. Democrats blocked it. Every person who ever bought gas knows it was much higher under Biden. The biggest reversal came among voters ages 18-29, whose 13-point shift toward Republicans in 2024 was overwhelmed by a 35-point swing toward Democrats last night.
-- This is not just the national party, every state and local GOP basically said, "you guys need to wait--put your future, your life, your career and family on hold: We need shore up our votes with seniors. And all these other groups. And in a few years, if it all works out, you too will be eligible for these great tax credits! And this stock market will really help your 401k if you're ever able to have one!" As mentioned, the TX GOP really went out of their way to wow this group with ... a ban on hemp and porn. Politics ends at most people's wallets, and only if they can see, everyday, the effects of it.
You can raise their taxes, but if they don't see it everyday, it doesn't affect them. You and I knowing that the Dems will cause more financial pain to all taxpayers doesn't obviate the larger numbers to which is doesn't; they can only see what they feel every time they drive to the store, no matter that Biden caused the inflated prices, no matter that choking domestic oil production and refining makes prices at the pump higher; Biden isn't President, Trump is. That seems to be yet another lesson here. Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) at November 04, 2026 02:32 PM (l3cgK) 95

"People are stupid" defines the midterms.
I may be one of the few people not depressed today. Perhaps for many reasons, but chiefly because I can't control it. If I can't control anything in life I don't waste a lot of time of being depressed or filtering through why it happened. I also have a deep faith in God. Altho I'm not saying filtering needs to be done. I'm simply not going to let politics win over my outlook on life. We've been through similar. I won't waste a second of my life in grief or fear over politics. Let the trolls (who seem to be popping up here like putrid monkeypox), the Dims, the commies, rejoice today with the tic tok witches. I pray against them every night and am not bothered. We have two years to reverse this and we will. Once they don't have Trump to blame on the price of gas and groceries, who will they blame? Wisconsin democrats went out of their way to court younger and white male voters, or at least not scare them away. Sure the top of the state ticket was a black man for governor but that's hardly a deal breaker in this era.
No, I'm talking about Ben Brist and Mitchell Berman and Trevor Jung, all of whom are non threatening white males who leaned into their masculinity. Berman featured an ad of him wearing a 1911 on his hip to go along with the baseball cap and boots and fishing rod and Golden retriever, fake as all get out but... Ben Brist heavily leaned into his military service in his ads. The imagery worked. We're electing one of us, not Jessica Hong in "whiteface".
Because we are firebreathers (relatively speaking), we spend a lot of time barking mad about how unprincipled are own pols are. But they're probably not any more unprincipled than the electorate itself. People voted for Trump 2.0 because they thought they would be getting Trump 1.0: A booming economy, a sealed border, and a, relatively, peaceful world. They were willing to look past the crudity, the vulgairty, the garishness, the crassness, the pompousity, and all his other faults because he still wore the sheen of competence from his first term.
Instead, what we got was chaos, braindead economic policy, the whiff of corruption, some tasty memes, and an 80 year old Boomer whose schtick is wearing thin. This was a wholesale and undeniable repudiation of Trump. It didn't matter what flavor of Republican you were in this climate, moderate, conservative, isolationaist, protectionist, neocon, paleocon, post-liberal, everyone took a beating. And that means the buck stops with the guy at the top. Lot of the Horde may not want to hear it, but this carnage would not have happened if we had nominated the guy from Florida who wore boots. Trump's braggadocio did him in. We all know that the 20+% inflation under Biden is what caused the "affordability" crisis, but Trump promised prices would start falling on Day One. Contrast with Obama, who defended a shitty, stagnant economy by blaming Bush every time he opened his mouth and of course the media let him get away with it. Trump overpromised, and couldn't deliver because it's fundamental that for most things other than commodities, prices only go up. It's just a question of the rate of increase. Promising people they were going to start seeing lower prices immediately was an impossible promise to keep.
He did start bringing down oil prices, and then shot himself in the dick with Iran. But Iran isn't why diesel is $6/gallon. That's that little shit Zelensky's fault, and all the global customers who have kept relying on Russian supplies for the last four years while arming the guy who is blowing up their energy supplies with the side benefit of allowing them to conveniently blame Trump for everything. And Texas, geez. What happens when you invite corporate liberals from California and Manhattan into your state by the millions? I guess this. “Over the last two years, Senate Republicans have put up a strong record of accomplishment that’s created safer streets, more money in Americans’ pockets, and new opportunities for families and businesses to get ahead.
After fighting Democrat obstruction at every turn, we prevented the largest tax hike in American history, secured our border in an unprecedented way, confirmed the president’s Cabinet at the fastest pace in two decades, and put strong conservative judges on benches across the country faster than we have since the Reagan administration. I’m proud of our team and everything we’ve done for the American people, and I’m looking forward to the important work we have in front of us over the next few months. As we head into 2027, Senate Republicans will not stand idly by as the far-left, socialist wing of the Democrat Party attempts to unwind everything we’ve done. Thankfully, we still have President Trump in the White House, and we’ll work with him to stop the worst impulses of Democrat extremism. We cannot let their fringe positions become the mainstream.” -- John Thune (R-INO) Posted by: Duncanthrax at November 04, 2026 02:50 PM (0sNs1) 223

Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better. Faith gets stronger.
This is God's plan, not mine. Yet I still believe in Him and know where I'm going. Sons are conservative fighters. Key word there, fighters. The political pendulum always swings wildly, always has, always will. The Founding Father's knew this. Granted, they didn't know about tik tok witches and trans, but they knew evil and stupid people. Pray. Fight. Never give up. Never let them see you upset, if you have these ninnyhammer twits in your own life, fight. Don't be weaklings in the face of war...and it is war against demonic thinking of those who won. I'll bet some stayed home to not vote because Trump hurt their feelings by bombing Iran. THEY are partially to blame and I hope they are happy today along with demonic Dims and the evil they spew with their unholy socialism as they kill babies and mutilate children. There! Right up there is the only anger I have and you'd never notice it if you met me right now. Not a tiny atom of fear (unless I see a snake). times are bad, objectively. trump being reelected did not, as the electorate seemed to signal its expectation with the "vibe shift", fix any of the extremely profound problems plaguing or society (problems for which there are surely no two-year fixes). the party in power is punished when times are bad. people don't want trans supremacy to return, they voted overwhelmingly for more secure elections, and they don't seem to express a positive view of socialism. they don't want to purchase what the democrats are selling, they just know someone is to blame for times remaining bad, and it must be the folks currently in charge. i don't think it's any deeper than that. The closest it got was an edited video of Renee Good, and how Trump is mean. Their messaging was mostly (in this order) "Gas prices", "Gabe Evens votes lockstep with Trump", "Iran War bad", and "MAGA bad". Democrats know they cannot win on pro-immigration. They won on the Iran War. Trump should cancel the war, and get back to deportations. Regardless of what I said above, I do think there is great dissatisfaction with Trump that made a lot of people stay home.
1. The young are disaffected, especially with H1bs, bad career prospects, high cost of housing, and a class stratification where the older generations have their stuff, but the young feel they will never get their. 2. The Iran war and Israel. These two overlap. There is a lot of antisemitism and a lot of people who think the Iran war is driven by Israeli interests not America First. 3. High cost of living. Gas prices are a stand-in here, and they are not bad but generally people see that groceries cost 2x what they did before Covid and they want that fixed. It is unfixable, but it is a daily reminder of how fucked "capitalism" has become. 4. Big tech supremacy. This is mostly encapsulated in AI and data centers. Yeaaa, we get to lose our jobs, and our peaceful communities, but a bunch of creeps on the West Coast will get rich, so there's that. 5. I don't believe immigration is a big factor. It is emotional for a lot of people (those who lose cheap labor, and those who want the freeloaders out) but that cancels out. I think Posted by: bob (moron inbobnitus) at November 04, 2026 03:08 PM (8nUmk) 331
Far, far too many people are retarded emotional sheep. I hear it all the time..lose their minds over a dime increase in gas but can't wait to fork out $15 for a coffee. Somebody on TV gives them a story about "immigrants" or "homeless" who are either cute young women or sad looking veterans and suddenly they believe that is who makes up the majority of those groups. They know nothing about anything important but can tell you who plays right tackle for Nebraska. Around here the big political ad was an actual sound bite of the candidate saying "a 23% tax" as part of a consumption tax proposal, of course with no other taxes, which they left out so the dummies would think the candidate wished to just add that tax. I really dont have much optimism left unless somehow our very own Gen. Franco miraculously appears

However, over the past few weeks he has done a few things that irritate me: his refusal to disavow Tucker's insane rantings, his too-public disapproval of Trump's actions in Iran, and his statement that he is a procrastinator and doesn't really think about big decisions he has to make until the last minute.
So as it stands now, I would vote for either Vance or Rubio, but I would prefer Rubio. Posted by: IrishEi ?! at November 04, 2026 03:11 PM (3ImbR) 359

Trump ran on mass deportations and won a huge majority, the biggest by any Republican ever, including from the precious Latinos, in 2024.
It's the gas prices, caused by the Iran War, which resonate throughout the whole economy because fuel drives up the cost of everything else. We are a democratic empire, not a virtuous republic. No one cares how many legionnaires fall in battle, no one cares how many Parthians they kill, or which client sits on the throne. They care about the price of bread in Rome. You could nuke every city between Gibraltar and Xinjiang and no one would give a shit if in doing so the price of gas stayed at 2.67 where it was on New Year's Day 2026. It's that simple. That Trump surrounded himself with likeminded people on Iran, like Hegseth and Rubio should not be a surprise. Vance was sort of thrown upon him by Kirk and Don Jr. But he could have made Burgum or Rollins the VP, and won the same. The assassination attempt forced him to accelerate the process.

This is what I somehow inherited from my stoic grandmothers as I cannot explain it otherwise. In college when my bf/husband broke up with me and, the first of 3 times I was hurt. I never shed a tear in front of him. I never weep when crap hits the fan and have always been this way. I cry when it's over and in private. I was 3 days into being 16yrs old when my father almost bled to death in our front pasture. I go back to that moment in how I react to anything. I held his hand and did not weep til the medical helicopter left with him... and then I prayed he'd live and he did. If I have tears in my eyes they are of joy. Like when I'm told by our sons of a grandchild on the way. I also, now, don't weep in front of my army of men as it is their undoing at funerals. I sure as heck don't give in to politics. I like Cruz, especially since he is the only candidate in recent decades that seems to agree that the Constitution places any limitations whatsoever on Presidential authority.
But he just doesn't have the "riz", as the kids today would say. If we elected Presidents based on actual competence, Thomas Sowell would've served two terms beginning in 1965, followed by a Constitutional amendment that permitted him (but just him) to serve as many additional terms that he wanted. Abdul got elected because Michigan is like a lot of other states in which you have university cities, a large metropolitan area that is traditionally blue versus a lot of land area with a much fewer population. Almost all of Abdul’s support and Democrat support came from Detroit, Flint, Lansing, and Ann Arbor. I saw an electoral map this morning in which virtually all of the rest of the state counties are colored red. I believe Rogers lost by around 200,000 votes. Out of 15 or 17 million. Take for example, Ann Arbor in the townships which are rural around it. The Democrats won by 75% versus 24% for the Republicans. You can’t have a tiny township like I live in with 2400 people and the remaining townships with about the same number of residents counteracting a university town with 100,000 people, the majority of which are liberal. And they all voted for Abdul and sent Deby Dingle back to Congress.

There is no politically feasible way to balance the budget. The only question going forward is which voting blocs will get money from the treasury. Better to be on the winning side, and then you can collect your entitlements. It's a completely rational act. Democratic politicians get into power and then reward their voters. Republicans reward some of their voters, and fuck over others. Then are shocked when the ones they fuck over don't show up for the midterms. People really need to stop arguing about the mythical politics of a fiscally conservative republic that hasn't existed in 100 years. This is a "money printer go brrrrrr" patron-client democracy. The votes for Abdul came from Lansing, which hosts the Democrat state government, and Michigan State, Ann Arbor with th University of Michigan, Flint which has a lot of poverty and blue collar and Detroit which is a blue collar/millennial local. All major Democrat areas. With a large percentage of the population.

The best we can do is keep bombing the piss out of anything that looks like a centrifuge complex. That's probably doable... it's the kind of thing that's hard to hide. If they build it underneath a mountain, you just keep bombing the mountain until all the entrances are under a zillion tons of rubble. Also we prosecute, bomb, or sanction (as feasible/appropriate) any organization or country that supplies these cavemen with the stuff they need to build new centrifuges. Does any current pol have the guts to do this, other than Trump? No names come to mind. Posted by: Rodrigo Borgia at November 04, 2026 03:34 PM (qlLNh) 466

That's how serious political parties operate: things that increase their power, they do. It's a completely rational act to toe the line for your most loyal voters. Abortion advocates are high turnout voters who donate money and time to the Party. Of course they are rewarded with policy victory. That's what a serious political party does. Gas my ass. PA has the 2nd highest state gasoline tax in the US, and it's not stopped anyone from zipping around the highways like a fool. Gas prices rose significantly under the Biden administration - peaking at a nominal all-time high national average of $5.01 per gallon in June '22. First people returning to work AND travel, so gas demand surged. But, we were told global oil producers could not restart supply & drill quickly enough to match demand. Then OPEC+ oil cartel deliberately kept production cuts in place longer than expected. Russia & Ukraine, with Russia being one of the worlds largest oil exporters. Biden administration and EURO pals banned imports of Russian crude oil. U.S. refineries faced immediate shortages, sending pump prices to record highs. ON HIS 1ST DAY IN OFFICE, Biden cancelled the permit for the Keystone XO pipeline & placed a temporary moratorium on new oil & gas leases on federal lands, offshore waters. Wall Street & energy cos hesitated to invest billions in long-term drilling projects for fear future laws that would make them unprofitable. Trump and the feckless Republican team ran on fixing the economy, cutting inflation and the debt, no new wars and America first.
America got Israel first, high inflation with moderate gains due to tariffs, more debt, more war and more gubmint. Debt like a new York veteran politician. Trump became another politician. The outsider became just another insider with a cabinet stacked with people who represent another country and favor constant war. For profit. What JD Vance tweeted today would have easily kept everyone and everything. If the Republicans bothered to deliver on anything. Just one big bloated debt building piece of human waste. That's what they did his first 2 years in 2016-2018. But we could afford it then. Trump managed things until he let the Medical Midget ©® talk us into the shutdown. They didn't even need it this time. Trump gave them everything they needed and more. Teflon Don is now Trashheap Trump. I voted for him and his agenda every year.
