The Morning Rant

punk-monkey.jpg

For some unfathomable reason, President Trump announced on Tuesday that military aid to Israel would end this year. His explanation is a mess of the rational and the irrational.

Is it a good idea? Absolutely.

Was it announced without any thought and without any political advantage? Absolutely.

Here is the transcript of the interview, and here is the salient portion.

Why? Because they don't need it, Brian. I mean, I asked them, because they don't need it. And because why should we suffer the slings from lunatics like an El-Sayad when they don't need it? It's a bad -- it's a bad talking point because when you say, why don't we give everybody $4 billion? Israel's our number one; we give them more than anybody else and they no longer need it. We've been doing it for years, I've been doing it, but Israel is a very thriving country, they don't need it. If they did need it, I would say keep it going.

Regardless of whether the aid is a good idea, El-Sayad's comments should be refuted as contrary to the current law and policy of the United States government. Recognizing the political pitfalls of aid to Israel is reasonable, but changing that dynamic as an afterthought on election Tuesday, rather than using it to his and the Republican Party's political advantage is simply stupid.

As for the aid itself? Israel obviously requires a large and sophisticated military to counter the many threats against it, and since American weaponry is the best in the world, it is appropriate that it prioritize that technological advantage. But that aid has been a millstone around Israel's neck for a very long time. It has given the American president a huge amount of power over Israel's military decisions, and to a lesser extent its foreign policy. Most recently, Drooling Joe Biden (or someone in his administration) restricted shipments of certain weapons to Israel to control its military operations in Gaza. And before that, in 2014, the Obama administration restricted shipments of Hellfire missiles.

But the real control occurs behind the scenes. The threat is not that Israel will be unable to purchase American weaponry, but that there are strings attached to each purchase. And that is a caustic and dangerous situation, because Israel cannot always act in its own interests, but must defer to American foreign policy demands and the whims of the president, whoever he might be.

Those 2,000 and 500 pound bombs that Biden restricted? How many Israeli soldiers died because they had to go house-to-house (a brutal and dangerous tactic), rather than simply destroying the terrorist hives from the relative safety of the air? How many hostages were killed because the Biden administration slowed the Israeli military effort?

The military and technological relationship between Israel and America is strong. Civilian high-tech and military cooperation makes us both stronger. While the loss of four billion dollars in aid will hurt the Israeli military budget, the freedom to act independently is, in the long term, a far more valuable thing.

But the political calculation was ham-handed at best, and non-existent at worst. It did nothing for President Trump except buttress JD Vance's drift toward Tucker Carlson-style Jew-hate, and it may very well have injured Bibi Netanyahu's political machinations in Israel to create a strong coalition.

Was it off-the-cuff pontification, or was it planned? Who knows, but the result is a mess. I doubt that this announcement, had it been made at a politically opportune moment a few weeks or months ago would have prevented the ass-kicking of the mid-term elections, but it might have mitigated it somewhat.

Political capital is ephemeral, and whatever President Trump might have earned with this ill-timed announcement will be dissipated by the time he needs it.

And that is illustrative of the problem with the Trump administration!

13 Good morning!

Without question, Trump is the most transformative leader of our lifetime. He is a man, however, and not a superhero. His weakness has always been communication- it’s just not good. Oh he has had some good, great even, moments. But it is not his strength. I have been smacked by some of y’all for saying it, I have been told some of you appreciate his roughness. But it is an issue and a hindrance. I would prefer this Trump to no Trump, but I also wish this could have been smoothed out.

22 Basically correct CBD. A very odd way to introduce the concept.

The issue of cutting the aid cord with the US has been an active one in Israel for decades, logically enough, though of course that is completely unknown to the airheads on this side who make the most noise on the subject.

Bibi addressed a joint session in the 90s and brought it up then.

An amusing parallel is the ignorant belief that the US has always been a big military partner of Israel. Israel won its largest conventional wars (against Arab states) while under a US arms embargo. The US-Israel alliance arose slowly out of - sit down for this ignoramuses - the developing parallel interests of combating (at the time) Soviet-influenced and supported Arab "nationalism", and then Islamic jihadism that threatened strategic interests (energy) the US had recognized as far back as FDR.

26 I agree with this, and will add it's only the latest in a long line of bad calculations and missteps from Trump this year. It's uncharacteristic of him, but undeniable.

I can't say it bothered me that much at the time. But in the wake of the midterms, it becomes clearer how out of touch the white house seemed to the vast majority of voters.

Voters seemed genuinely upset at prices, inflation, medical insurance premiums, their lives and a host of other personal things. Whether they had reason to be upset at Trump for this is a different question, but for purposes of their thinking it doesn't matter.

In the face of all this, what does Trump do? Bungle the messaging (if not the strategy) on Iran, brag about vanity projects like the reflecting pool and ballroom, taunt Canada with silly threats and proposals, try to rename lakes, and tout esoteric economic indicators when it came time to address voter's concerns.

The really good stuff he did (immigration, prosecutions, lower crime, higher spending power, safer world, and lower prices compared to Biden) got lost in the mix.

Is it any big surprise that voters were pissed and took it out on the GOP in the midterms?

Coherent and consistent explanation. Trump constantly stopping and talking about "a deal" was incoherent and anybody advising him that a deal was possible should be fired.
The mullahs and IRGC are corrupt, apocalyptic lunatics who can't be bargained with. They'd see the entire Iranian population wiped out and still say it was "Allah's will".

Timing this year has been Trump's big problem.

Yes, the Israel announcement might've helped things if done say in August.

And the timing of the Iran Drubbing couldn't have been worse.

I still want to know if there was credible intelligence that action was necessary immediately or if the Drubbing was just nice to have.

I totally agree with the Iran takedown but couldn't have waited 8-12 months until the election ws over?

If not, so be it. But, if so, that's called stupidly poor planning for secondary efx.

32 Israeli here. Cutting the aid is a good thing overall. However, I would think it would have been preferable to cut a billion every year for 4 years.

Here's hoping we can take it. For starters, I can think of many ways that Israel's bloated big gubbernmint could chop away at itself Milei-style to reduce the annual budget by quite a bit.

Posted by: Biden's Dog sniffs a whole lotta malarkey, at November 05, 2026 11:17 AM (D0X9e)

33 I think we need to remember we get things in return from Israel, technology is just one. If they no longer need our aid, great. That should be the reason. I am wondering, however, if it’s not just going to be a change in buckets- instead of direct aid, do we sell the newest version of laser sharks to them for $5, instead of $5billion? The last reason needs to be because it’s suddenly not problematic to side-eye anything Jewish. Because that should be very, very problematic on the national stage and right here on this site. If I were Empress, that would be the rule.

If Trump wants to change the political convo pronto, he'd make her his new press secretary. Why not at this point. They going to attack a black woman?

(Barbz are her fan group, if you read the list and are confused. She does still live rent free in the heads of celebs that feel like by going MAGA, she betrayed the hive mind. Just like Elon does. I don't agree.

With Israel not getting any foreign aid from us, it doesn't matter a damn what we say anymore.

I think Trump KNEW he was going to get his shit pushed in during the election and did what he could to free the Israelis from whatever conditions and strings the incoming Antisemitic Congress might put on them.

41 Germany has actually remained good about its perceived special obligation to Israeli security. Most recently they've been f***ing with the Qataris, whose sovereign wealth fund investment in an industrial company gave them a veto over partnering with an Israeli firm to produce military items. The Germans are playing games with ownership/different divisions of the company to circumvent the Qatari blocking attempts (last I heard).

It's not the US' obligation to ensure Israel's security, apart from our decision to do so. And we don't "ensure" it - it's a multi-faceted alliance that has yielded enormous practical benefits and which aligns completely with our interests and values. The "analysis" (actually uninformed sloppy polemics) applied to the US-Israel relationship is never used for other alliances, even though it would be equally off the mark there.

62 We've been quietly re-surging forces to the region, repositioning personnel, not sure how anyone could think the "Iran thing" was close to over.

But mostly because it won't be over until the regime is gone. Anything short of that is kicking the can down the road. They will (are) reconstituting, rebuilding on the nuke and missile fronts, and have only altered their very aggressive proxy activities due to $$ issues (appears shifting resources from Hezbollah to the Houthis).

There's an incredibly retarded and historically illiterate mindset to which the administration gives at least a superficial or implicit nod by never mentioning the need for regime removal - in place of that, we've had the eye-rolling nonsense from Trump about "deal making" (followed, hilariously and sometimes within hours, of frank descriptions of the regime as lunatics who never keep a deal).

But this is very highly electrified (and prevalent) third rail of foreign policy stupidity that is not worth engaging.

I’ve told friends til I’m blue in the face “why can’t he be even a tiny bit presidential?” Some of the cringe worthy things he’s said were indefensible. Ex. When Rob Reiner was killed. I thought “please just don’t say anything”, but he couldn’t help himself. The juvenile name calling gets old. He had a once in a generation chance to stop the bleeding and sometime last year the wheels started coming off. What’s done is done but I’m literally sickened to see my beloved TX turn into CA. It’s not all on him, but he’s not blameless.

72 I'm beginning to think if Trump had pursued military action to bring about the end of the Iranian regime in April without pause, the election results would have been much better.

The pause unnecessarily elongated the intervention and hence the financial and political cost.

74 The timing was also tied to assessments of Iranian progress on weaponization of a nuke. Given the progress and experience of the decades, several stages of the process (of course) no longer resemble what Los Alamos had to go through. The first counter-nuke strikes in June '25 included several against places conducting work on things like explosive dynamics and insensitive explosives.

And the whole idea of timing, intel assessments, and pre-emption is another area worth discussing but definitely not here as it would be an invidious taffy-yank. I came close to raising it back in March when posts unwittingly and amusingly retraced the logic of earlier US decisions in other conflicts, but nah.

88 Trump 2.0 has been an absolute train wreck abortion of squandering political capital.

- Bondi "he-he-he, it's on my desk" and not only did he not shitcan her right after that goofy-ass stunt, he burned massive political capital holding the files back--subjecting himself to the humiliation of Congress forcing him. And what did he get for lying to us about how he'd release them? Protected the Dems and gave them a campaign issue.

- Tariffs. Literally secured nothing for average Americans. No one can point to one thing a middle class person got in exchange but vague promises of "things will get better, you just watch." And up and down the courts, he got his ass handed to him. Again, nothing but a pile of burned political capital.

- Iran. It wasn't the war--it was yet another broken promise of "winning." What did we "win?" Higher gas prices and "trust me bro, their nuke program is done. Maybe. We gotta keep bombing. Or not. Or maybe. Ceasefire. No ceasefire." So a half-ass, half-hearted, who-knows for ... what? Nothing. Iran is still there, now stronger than before.

- Immigration. Early wins. Then bitch-slapped and curb-stomped by the courts all over the US. Loses BRC and pouts.

102 Excellent rant.

Old and slow, unfortunately I've posted something late on the Art Thread that may have some relationship to an U.S.- Israel aid conversation.

The Left has come out of the woodwork after Schumer, Jeffries plus any & all who've 'taken money from AIPAC.'
Of course, a certain amount is showmanship & hostage taking.

But interesting and further AFWL reaching was a piece of a CNN interview on Facebook, where Manu Raju talked with Hakeem Jeffries. (Hakeem Jeffries is poised to become Speaker of the House, the first for a Black US Representative, while Representative Katherine Clark is set to become House Majority Leader.)

The topic of impeachment arose during the brief interview with Jeffries saying no one of his caucuses had brought it up but rather they were working on an aggressive agenda of affordability and fighting corruption.

Trump is a decent man in many ways. He certainly doesn't want those in his administration affected by what could come their way if not restrained by a few in Congress that can still exert some saner control.

They went for scalps for J-6; the House and Senate are a-changing come January 2027. Constraints will be necessary.

I don't even think he was trying to make deals with them.

(and I will remind people that there was a certain amount of amusement in these quarters that he was using their negotiating tactic against them - yeah, it didn't pay well in Peoria, because Americans value people who aren't wishy-washy. But Iranians - Muslims - aren't American.)

I think he was trying to destroy their ability to cause trouble without harming their civilian population AND not make them so vulnerable that their neighbors would decide that they were ripe for conquest.

That's a fine needle to thread, and you really can't say it out loud (to explain it to your own people) without offending the people you're trying to keep from going conquesting. Because they also are Muslims.

From Berlin to Brussels, many welcomed the Democratic victory in Congress as a setback for Donald Trump. The assumption was simple: less Trump means less disruption. But politics is rarely that straightforward. According to our guest – Germany's former ambassador to the US and outgoing Chairman of the Munich Security Conference, Wolfgang Ischinger – the relief many in Europe are feeling following Trump's midterm defeat could prove short-lived, and the real consequences may be far more complicated.

🔥🚨 THIS WAS THE ULTIMATE SUPREME COURT BACKFIRE: DEMOCRATS JUST HANDED TRUMP THE ULTIMATE CONSTITUTIONAL WAR MACHINE! 🚨🔥
History is being rewritten in real-time, and legal experts are SCREAMING from the rooftops! Democrats thought they were playing 4D chess by dragging their desperate fight to the Supreme Court to block President Trump…
Instead, they triggered a CATASTROPHIC, NUCLEAR EXPLOSION OF PRESIDENTIAL POWER! 💥🇺🇸
🛑 WHAT JUST HAPPENED?
The Legal Trap Sprung: Trump previously wanted to use ICE agents and federal law enforcement, arguing he needed to call the National Guard. But under the statute, a president must first prove they are "unable to enforce the law with regular forces"—a crucial question the Supreme Court had never decided before!
The Supreme Court’s Shock Ruling: The Court ruled that "regular forces" means the President must try utilizing regular armed forces first before deploying the National Guard!
⚡ THE UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES ARE HERE:
Instead of clipping his wings, the Court has essentially invited President Trump to deploy heavy-duty military power directly into blue cities like Chicago and Los Angeles!
(Cont)

Posted by: rickb223 at November 05, 2026 11:58 AM (mISmA)

192 STEP 1: THE HEAVY HITTERS. To protect federal buildings and shield ICE agents at all costs, Trump is now unlocked to deploy elite active-duty military forces—MARINES, the 82nd AIRBORNE, and the 101st AIRBORNE DIVISION—exactly like Eisenhower did after Brown v. Board of Education!
STEP 2: NATIONAL GUARD AS CHILD’S PLAY. Governors like JB Pritzker might be cheering this as a political "win" to curb executive power... but they just signed up for the hard way. The National Guard is now just child's play—only to be deployed if needed later down the line!
STEP 3: TOTAL FEDERAL DOMINATION. If blue cities and defiant states refuse to do their jobs, federal authority crashes in with REAL, UNFILTERED ENFORCEMENT. NO HOLDS BARRED.
🎯 THE BOTTOM LINE:
Democrats thought they were delivering a checkmate. Instead, they accidentally begged the Supreme Court to invite Trump to patrol American streets with the Marine Corps and the 82nd Airborne instead of local guardsmen!
🔥 MASSIVE. EPIC. BACKFIRE. 🔥
The Great Awakening is HERE.

Nope. Otherwise, he (Jacob) was a normal, nebbish, affluent Jewish guy with a Jewish wife and Jewish kid. You'd never notice anything particularly weird about him.

But he was literally a head honcho at an organization that makes little secret that they want to exterminate him and all his kind.

I didn't believe it. "That can't be," I thought. So I looke him up. Sure enough, his bio is on the CAIR website, along with a number of other names that are almost certainly Jewish. Incredible.

As said previously, the donks are the natural/default political party, and as much as we'd like to think they should be relegated to the trash heap for their sordid history/evil and out right lunacy, they seem to be forgiven for their tresspasses and returned to power.

They literally were party of slavery and yet black people love the democrat party. They are literally the party of internment and anti-semtitism, and yet asians and jews vote heavily for democrats.

Hell, they just elected a muslim brotherhood devotee to the Senate.

More, with the media taking Victory Laps for the dems, it really does not matter WHAT Trump actually said. It would be spun negative no matter what.

Next thing that happens though? The same Congresscritters that always shouted at him for supporting Israel, will suddenly decide it is ONLY up to Congress if foreign aid continues, and thus Trump can't cut the aid....

That is my theory that explains the entire national debacle. We stayed home because the GOP gave us nothing to vote for. The GOP are useless shitheads no matter what, but from what I can tell, even the ones that actually might have fought for us ran terrible campaigns that offered little more than "I'm not that guy."

245 - Tariffs.

You effing idiot.

Tariffs were paid into the Treasury, in case you're mildly worried about the deficit. They also made is worthwhile to move manufacturing into the US versus out of the US.

If you think Iran is stronger now than before, you should consider offing yourself right now to improve your family's position. Since that's how you appear to think how such things work.
