'Mesquite' is filed in my brain adjacent to 'mess kit'.
Like the WWII surplus mess kits that consisted of two halves, one that could serve as a frying pan and the other that was a divided plate. The handle of the pan folded over into the groove in the plate to clamp it closed. Inside were utensils: knife, fork, spoon. We used those on many a Boy Scout backpacking trip. Another from the Smithsonian American Art Museum and Renwick Gallery
Painted during Tsuruoka's time as an inmate at the Poston incarceration camp during World War II, where gnarled, barren mesquite trees were a recurring subject in his work reflecting the isolation and landscape of the desert camp. See Scholten Japanese Art, Kakunen Tsuruoka, 1892-1977 untitled (vertical mesquite) watercolor on paper, signed at lower right, Kakunen Tsuruoka, ca. 1944)) During his forced confinement at the Poston Incarceration Camp (specifically Camp III) in Arizona during World War II, Tokutaro "Kakunen" Tsuruoka’s artistic style underwent a drastic, profound shift. (Densho Encyclopedia) Before the war, he was known for creating decorative, vibrant bird-and-flower paintings (kacho-ga) & picturesque California landscapes for art collectors. However, his camp watercolors discarded commercial appeal to capture the raw solitude, bleakness, and haunting beauty of the Arizona desert. (AZ Memory Project) March 1943, Tsuruoka designed and curated the "Mojave Room" inside an empty barrack at Poston III. The installation featured 16 of his original paintings lining the walls. An important lesson Posted by: L - No nic... at November 05, 2026 10:25 AM (NFX2v) 100

Democrats spent the entire campaign talking about affordability, groceries and the cost of living. It took them less than an hour after winning Congress to drop every word of it and show the country what the campaign was actually about.
The new agenda is already being said out loud. Arrest the political opponents. Seize Elon Musk's factories. Nationalize SpaceX. The mask did not slip over weeks or months. It came off before the victory parties even ended. Anyone paying attention could have seen this coming. The affordability language was the wrapper, and the wrapper was never the product. The product is power, and power aimed at everyone who stood in the way. America now gets to watch the real Democrat Party govern with both chambers. The country will remember who warned them and who sold them the story. Posted by: rickb223 at November 05, 2026 10:29 AM (mISmA) 108

They are all rated solid to strong conservatives. It is up to them to save America by saving Texas. They have to craft the perfect strategy--with no errors--of stopping and frustrating the Dems without being blamed. While building an agenda of change, promises people believe. A national agenda. Maybe the smartest thing they can do is name Adam Hinojosa of Corpus Christi as the senate leader. And have him everywhere--make him the shadow governor of Texas. Of course many things have already become more "affordable" in the last nearly 2 years. Rents are down in many areas. Overall inflation has declined significantly. Real wages have been increasing (last time was 2019, before that last time was 80s, for most income levels - gee class what do those periods have in common?). Unemployment is at/just below long term average (which is below level that economists historically considered full employment).
Needless to say the Dems have literally zero ideas or changes that would improve "affordability" apart from short-term giveaways and subsidies that will bolster inflation. But to the pathetic American audience, chanting "affordability", just like "hope and change", actually constitutes a "pitch". Posted by: rhomboid at November 05, 2026 10:58 AM (U/Byj) 191

Posted by: rickb223 at November 05, 2026 10:29 AM (mISmA) Funny how a plot of a particular banned movie (in Europe, especially) is basically about a very rich man who finally takes revenge on power hungry government officials. That ain't gonna stop the Dems and a "Panel of Intelligence Officers" from cooking some shit up. Fortunately the American People have seen enough of that bullshit to where only their lunatics will buy into it, again. And No one will give a shit cause Democrats decided to try and sell the public on the idea that they can shit "Affordability" out of their asses. This nation has thoroughly fucked itself. And contrary to popular belief (even on this blog), it wasn't Trump's fault. What we're seeing is the younger generations educated in our public school system coming into voting age. The boomers can't be blamed for this massive fuckup. There's not enough of us left to cause this.

>>> Again, the LA mayor race is a perfect illustration of how f**** insane people in this country have become.
Posted by: Thomas Bender at November 05, 2026 10:55 AM (XV/Pl) To be fair, I see it as equal to the Cuomo vs Mamdami race. People refused to vote for the LA mayor that willingly let their houses burn down, their neighbors burnt alive, same as they refused to vote for the NYC mayor that sent their grannies back to the infected nursing homes to be killed. They would rather vote for an unknown evil than the known evil. I can't blame them for that. But I still wish that Spencer had even a sliver of a fair election for the mayor's race. He is awesome. LA and Cali doesn't deserve having him or Hilton in their corner. Posted by: LizLem at November 05, 2026 11:03 AM (Toos7) Posted by: sven at November 05, 2026 11:03 AM (Int1s) 211

First order of business for the dems in 2027 will surely be to release the Epstein files, right? Since the dems control one whole branch of government?
Bueller? What do you mean, no? It's all talk of revenge and subpoenas and impeachments, which the normie dems did NOT vote for. Who could have foreseen this, but everyone with any sense? Posted by: LizLem at November 05, 2026 11:06 AM (Toos7) 216

People forget but the Democrats are the natural governing party of the US, they had a nearly 60 year run of both the house and Senate...
----- They're oldest and most powerful political party in the world. You can't beat them in ten years, swinging around the flaccid remnant of the political party that last truly challenged them a hundred years ago. Posted by: Yudhishthira's3 Dice at November 05, 2026 11:08 AM (BI5O2) 220

Yes Jack Dorsey and Bill Gates "having opinions" is JUST like Bob the Plumber noticing that the chick in DC ignoring the instructor and causing a crash in Jan of 25 was a lot of DEI coming home to roost.... the problem with "the tech elite" is the world is set up in such a way their genius can fuck shit up on a galactic scale....see Sam Altman and "your home PC having any ram is a waste....." Thanks, I went up to Missouri to look at the craftsmanship and maybe drop the hammer on a 110,000 buck house near New Madrid made of stone...we literally don't build them like it any more.... the realtor a hot Gilf type ran with "this is one of the safest spots in the country far from any riots and away from the coasts if things go sideways only thing to worry about is the river".... me being me and lord knows you all know me I replied.... "of course this is the New Madrid fault line and if you roll bad dice you can have a quake so bad it alters the ground table in 35 feet in real time, reverses the MS river for a month and makes the sky blood red.....so yeah safe as houses..... Keep your head up, the American people as a whole are made of good stock...the wife's progenitor ancestor started off in Norway as a simple fisherman, looked around the Hanseatic league thought "the money is in Holland" taught himself Dutch moved to Amsterdam was a loadmaster eventually made in six years Captain of a Fluyt mastered two native languages Huron and Ottawa and was sent to work the New Amsterdam coast.... he died after his son married an English woman.... about 125 years later the English were running "New York" for England....and after than they were "Americans" the wheel keeps spinning....I think the mistake was the Westphalian nation state and the massive concentration of power on this scale....and it destroys me on a level to type that given I have dedicated my life to service to a Westphalian nation state.
