Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning Rant![]() Things are changing enough that CNN noted a drastic falloff of Jewish support for Democrats on the generic ballot in New York. Not that surprising since the New York Jewish vote tends to be some of the most traditional in the country. But the generic ballot usually trended Democrat because Democratic congressional candidates would try to appeal to Jews. We're now in the era of the actively antisemitic congressional candidate like Dariazila Avila Chevalier, who celebrated the Oct 7 attacks, Claire Valdez and their gruesome toady, Brad Lander. No surprise that Jewish support for the generic ballot is crashing. But a McLaughlin poll claims that overall Jewish support has flipped on the generic ballot. I find it almost incomprehensible that any Jew, no matter how assimilated and contemptuous of his ancestral religion and culture would vote for those who support the destruction of the Jewish people. Are they finally waking up? Here's some of the data from the McLaughlin poll: Among the voters in our survey: Here is FrontPageMag again... Do I buy that shift? I think the number of Jewish voters polled is too small to put too much weight on it. But the level of everyday antisemitism that has been normalized among leftists is mind-blowing. You don’t have to go far to see Goebbels degree rhetoric. It’s leaking into not just the internet, but social circles and everyday interactions. (This isn’t just limited to leftists, but Jews live in liberal areas and encounter liberals more than anyone else.) I think that there is a growing sea change. I suspect it’s not quite as extreme. Yes, it is a small poll that is only a snapshot, and very possibly not indicative of a lasting trend, but it is certainly interesting. For a lasting shift to occur among American Jews, the inertia of 110 years of voting for leftist policies and candidates, popularly known as Democrats, would have to change. Rabid, open, obvious Jew-hatred might be the force that pushes American Jews to a more sane approach to their political support. It has been self-destructive for a century, and ignorant of reality; perhaps open discussion among the darlings of the left of American Judaism as intrinsically evil, and Israel as a illegitimate and dangerous country is finally being heard. Color me skeptical (you would understand if you met some of my relatives!), but even a small shift is important. [Crossposted at CutJibNewsletter and X/Twitter]. Short answer: I think so, yes. It would be interesting to see this broken down by age. I suspect the biggest shift to the right -- or, more accurately, away from the left -- among Jews this election cycle is younger Jews. Why younger? Because they've seen first-hand the viciousness and destruction the left has for Israel and Jews in general. And unlike older Jews, the younger ones don't have mostly obsolete fears of the KKK, Nazis, and the classic anti-semites. The older Jews just can't seem to shake these old fears, and have a harder time seeing the real threat: their fellow Democraps. The call is coming from inside the house. Never mind the fact that progressives are more likely to actually go through the polling process which creates response bias issues, you have to get a lot of Catholics to get a representative sample. Which is difficult and expensive to do. They're always...suspect. I take the exit polling from 2024 with less of a grain of salt than any other polling in this area, and exit polls have their own issues. So, I doubt the Catholic vote has shifted about 10 points to the left in the last 2 years. When so-called Jews reject their religion, do not follow its precepts, are openly antagonistic to those who follow the Torah, we call them...Jews? Why?
Because "Jew" can be ethnic, cultural a/o religious. That Venn does have overlap but is not a circle. Trump's daughter: a proselyte, not ethnic or cultural — a religious Jew. Bernie Sanders: ethnic and to a much lesser extent cultural Jew, not religious. The problem is cultural, not religious. The cultural part provides a Diaspora mindset and the concept of as a Chosen Race, according to Dennis Prager, has a duty to guide everyone else to fall in line with their understanding of how the world ought to be. Cultural + Religious gives us the so-called Judeo-Christian ethic for as much as Free Will is compatible with Divine Providence. The duty to guide others into a monotheistic drive for righteousness is ideal for the US, anything less is Anti-American and is completely incompatible with a Western 18th Century Christian worldview. Statistically speaking, the Jewish vote is insignificant, representing a little over 2pct of the electorate.
What is significant is how wealthy Ideological driven Jews allocate their resources politically. If Mark Zuckerberg is not throwing around Zuckerbucks that's more significant. Depends on the theology. Generally Speaking Roman Catholicism leans towards salvation through the Church. Due to its corporate nature, and the Second Chances concept of Purgatory, a Mob Fixer can perform a hit on the way to Mass and that is acceptable. So aborting children has its place in Rome. This is in contrast to Confessional Christianity with a foundation within the Doctrines of Grace that, because of spiritual regeneration and sanctification would make it inconceivable for the Elect in Christ to vote for a pro-abortion candidate. ======= I agree with TJM, On any survey of 'values', there is an obvious selection bias problem first---poll respondents have become a special class of their own while non respondents do not follow the same distribution of responses. So any 'poll' is missing data and the missing data is not 'random' which makes any claims that a poll percentage is a true representation of the whole population, survey-able and nonsurvey-able. Within those willing to be polled, you then have the problem of socially acceptable answers--in many social interactions, people fudge the truth and make their answers 'fit' what they expect the other person wants to hear. 'Values' questions are particularly sensitive to this sort of 'noise'. Classic example, non religious, is that polling repeated overstates those that claim to have voted or will vote. It is because nowadays, someone sensitive to social norms dislikes revealing that they did not vote while society has been pounded with the idea that they must vote. You also see this problem with post election polling where invariably, a percentage claims falsely voting for the winner when they voted for the loser. Catholicism can be considered a "blue collar" congregation. Traditionally Democratic. Generally speaking, the ones who get out and vote are the older people - many who still subscribe to the Democratic Party they grew up with and continue to vote that way. You see, it’s all Republican propaganda, despite the fact that you show, in the verifiable words of Democrats, exactly what they want. There is as a time when you could compare the parties, surmise they are a few degrees apart and let apathy rule. That time is far in the past. You only need to read what Democrats are proposing. Those of us who pay attention find it hard to grasp how much many people's political thinking is based on conditions generations ago that they don't even really think about. In AZ along the border there are Dem sheriffs, who by modern standards would be right wingers, but in the mid to late 1800s Republicans were carpetbagging Yankees and the locals were Confederate sympathetic Dems. So they see themselves as Dems. This is actually the political subtext behind the whole Earps and Tombstone story. Earps were northern carpetbaggers out to make some cash and Ringo and the rest were locals who resented that. Catholics, Jews, Irish were all the underclass 100 years ago and the Dems were their champions, and the Reps were the champions of the English types who got here first.

Got prominence by becoming a Macon city councilman and claiming to be opposing the Muzzies back then. From there, he left political office to create a media online project with others, Peach Pundit IIRC. From that, he built Red State which he sold to Salem roughly in Trump I term and his Red State soiree for GOP presidential candidates in late 2015-16 had Erickson refuse to invite Trump, ostensibly because of the Megyn Kelly blood coming out her whatever comment. Really, it was because Erickson was GOPE to the core. He had a part time gig as commenter at CNN, about like Scott Jennings did back in the day, and lost that. Subsidizing the food he stocks grocery stores with for people who don’t work a 1,000th of how hard he works to buy groceries with EBT cards that he pays for, which then drives up the cost of groceries for him and his family that he pays for out of his paycheck because he’s doing it the right way. What they did not want was some sort of state religion that could be used to disenfranchise those churches in a power move, since they had already had to put up with that in England and they didn't enjoy it the first time. Catholic laity is shifting back to tradition. And the church knows it. Part of the problem is many priests climbing the Catholic Church hierarchy are part of the battle and that included the last pope. They have become more biased in their politics, and more active in their opinions about it, than loosely associating their musings with the Gospels. Gospels which people can read for themselves and decide whether they personally believe this proclamations are true. Hint, a good portion of the laity doesn’t. Especially when you throw in organizations connected to the church that are clearly left wing, like Catholic Charities.
There is a real battle going on for the soul of the church. Politics and those in office will never change that. Ever. That’s in your own soul, and won’t be stolen by any person. Posted by: Marcus T at October 29, 2026 11:41 AM (PM/iv) 158

Faith is not church. The world is full of frauds and liars especially when it comes to faith.
No, Faith is not church. Briefly, it's faith in the salvific power of the risen Christ and the continuing presence of the Holy Spirit. You don't have to go to church to be a Christian. However, I went to church for years before I was ordained. I appreciated the preaching, the hymns, the beauty of the sanctuary, the Sacraments, the foundational words of Scripture and the fellowship with other believers who were on the same page theologically preaching. My world would be much lessened were I not part of a church community. And I'm not longer preaching except to the ladies at the monthly service at the nursing home (which is done as a volunteer, so it's not as if I making a haul from being a pastor. This scares me even as a non-Jew: Cali enacted SB 1387, making it the first U.S. state to recognize Jewish identity as an optional ethnicity or race on official demographic forms.
Effective January 1, 2029, state agencies are required to provide an optional check-box for Jewish ethnicity on data collection forms (such as health, education, and social service forms). The checkbox is completely optional & does not create a new legal protected class or alter religious classifications. Will it help accurately count the state's roughly 1.2 million Jewish residents to better track healthcare needs, educational outcomes, and resources to combat antisemitism? Groups like Jewish Voice for Peace have raised concerns. --- Both Unitarian Universalists and the majority of modern Quakers heavily favor the Democratic Party. Unitarian Universalists (UUs) are post-Christian/Pluralist, 🤷♀️ "broadly considered one of the most politically progressive religious traditions" in the nation. Quakers have a unprogrammed branch (liberal) & a pastoral/evangelical branch often referred to as Orthodox that leans more 'mainstream' Protestant. All are widespread. (i.e., Quakers in AK.) 149 The Founders were very skeptical of organized religion.
Posted by: Mr Aspirin Factory The whole postmodern idea that the Founders were Deist is overblown. A few might have been but the majority were not. As Kindltot noted, there were established state churches in the colonies (CofE in most, Congregationalist in MA (including ME at the time), and Maryland was founded Catholic. What you might not have known is that Brits seriously considered at least twice, requiring installed bishops of the Church of England in the American colonies and mandating the colonies, whatever their existing church, be forced to be CofE as their official state religion. So you would have bans on Catholics in office mandated (some colonies had that), treating Congregationalists, Quakers, and Baptists as nonconformists under the law, and all other religions beliefs being taxed to support CofE institutions. You had many Jews leaning left for a few reasons historically:
1) They considered themselves a discriminated against ethnic minority. No one else does. To right leaning people they are white and to left leaning people they are uber white devils. 2) Large numbers of Jewish people didn't really believe their faith, and like all atheists voted hard left - as you note demographics seems to be resolving this issue 3) The left wing political establishment rewarded left leaning Jews - look at how failed commune member Bernie Sanders is now rich...but the entry to politics for Jewish people in the Dem party is closing 4) The argument re: Israel was always that Israeli hardliners were the problem and if Israel just negotiated enough the problem would go away. Well Israel gave Hamas their own land and they used it to plan an attack to rape and murder peace-nik Israelis. Posted by: 18-1 at October 29, 2026 12:03 PM (sKqQm) 243

The renewed mind finds that sin to be a characteristic of the unregenerated Posted by: Community Notes at October 29, 2026 11:19 AM (a3CJ+) == I think you need to update your definitions a bit.
