True, but that shouldn't be considered a mental illness. Mental illness is or should be an aberration -- something is wrong that shouldn't be -- not something that happens to everyone at a certain point in their lives.
Posted by: Elric The Blade Everyone gets a cold at least once in their life, too. But it's still considered an illness. == well its not like either of your are wrong - torturing the analogy further - there are some people with impaired immune systems who get sick quite a bit more than others. I suspect those with chronic mental health issues, have a system that makes them less resilient. Because its mental health, that system isn't just between your ears. It is also who and what you are around and what you put into your brain. Most people suffer from depression, anxiety, obsessions (boobs) compulsions (Admiral Akbar) stuff like that but are functional or self limited. And of course very other kid is now diagnosed with ADD or Autism or hell why not both? Like everything else follow the money. There’s an entire industry out there that treats this supposed mental illness. Everything form govt to NGOs to the medical industrial complex to of course Pharma. More “mental illness” means more money. There is an incentive to diagnose as many customers (err I mean patients) as possible. It’s all gay and retarded, as is everything else. Posted by: Washington Nearsider: Gotterdammerung at October 13, 2026 11:44 AM (gLYp7) ====== EV analysis is particular. You have to slice and dice and compare correctly to get anything predictive out of the numbers. What I've seen across a handful of states that have started is a smaller base of leftists exhausting themselves out early through mail and early in person voting followed by steady work by Republicans to drive their numbers up. EV tends to be won by Democrats in general (it's just voting behavior, akin to Democrats always winning Jackson, Mississippi) which doesn't mean that Democrats are suddenly winning. They won EV in 2024 and 2022 as well. But, election day trends heavily Republican and has since early voting started decades ago. The margins Dems have tend to be smaller by % this year and with lower overall turnout. You would not expect that in a blue wave election. Posted by: rickb223 at October 13, 2026 11:44 AM (jmpEl) Some years ago, they changed the on-ramp near here...it used to be that the lane was the on-ramp to the next exit as well, but they "widened" the freeway and turned it into TWO lanes you had to merge out of in order to get to the freeway, with both the lanes on the right leading to the off-ramp. Traffic circles do increase the number of accidents. But they greatly reduce the number of serious accidents and virtually eliminate traffic fatalities. Hard to kill someone in a roundabout going 15 mph and hitting someone. Those fender benders are replacing the t-bone crashes at 45 mph in intersections that do cause fatalities.

You could be Chad Highborn IV and still get angry or depressed when your Fenomeno is in dealer service. That's not "mental illness," though.
=== It is a matter of degree. Does Chad become so morose that he won't get out of bed, eat, attempts suicide? That is mental illness. I hadn't much contact with those struggling with mental illness until I had tucked a number of decades under my belt. I still don't really understand why things become pathologic for some people and not others. I don't think they are faking it. I have seen real pain, desperation even. I don't, for the life of me, understand it. To me its like -well just stop thinking that, or stop doing that or whatever. But just because the nature of the problem for some people exceeds my ability to grasp it, doesn't mean it isn't real. There's a shit ton of stuff I don't know. It had been raining and he either didn't know how to drive in rain or had shitty tires. Either way as we went around a turn the car went into a spin skid...off the road. As the car starting spinning in midair I figured I was about to die. It did a full 360 and after falling for a few feet it hit the ground...on to a feeder road that went back to the highway with us not only landing on it perfectly but driving in the correct direction. Some years ago, they changed the on-ramp near here...it used to be that the lane was the on-ramp to the next exit as well, but they "widened" the freeway and turned it into TWO lanes you had to merge out of in order to get to the freeway, with both the lanes on the right leading to the off-ramp. Lots more accidents after that change.
At least it wasn't changing a two-lane residential street into a two-way/one-lane residential street with two bike lanes... Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) at October 13, 2026 11:50 AM (l3cgK) I like the way that the freeways are set up in much of Texas, with parallel frontage roads on either side that go for miles. If the freeway grinds to a near-halt, you can bail onto a frontage road, and maintain a decent 30 mph or so, including stops for lights. In the Phoenix metro area, the freeways don't have frontage roads as such, but the valley is well-gridded with major 4-lane roads in both E-W and N-S alignments, so if the freeway shuts down, you can bail off onto a crossroad, follow it to the next major through road headed in your direction, and follow that (which is exactly what signs direct you to do when a section of freeway is closed for road repairs Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at October 13, 2026 12:07 PM (quk5M) 230

Another pet peeve of mine is angled intersections.
Every intersection should be composed entirely of right angles. Posted by: Bulg at October 13, 2026 12:07 PM (77rzZ) 233
In my younger days I was a very aggressive driver. And everyone around me was a big asshole and didn’t know how to drive.
Then as I got older I really mellowed out. And weirdly all those bad drivers around me…they stopped being bad drivers. lol. Posted by: Sandy Cocazio Ortez at October 13, 2026 12:07 PM (k3anH) 234
Traffic circles are the communism of the roads. Theoretically they work great because everyone cooperates and everything is smooth and hunky-dory.
In practice they suffer from the tragedy of the commons because enough people use them without knowing what the hell to do and everything goes to shit. == This is hilarious and dead bang accurate. It should be in some stand up routine. Posted by: QED - does this termination letter make me look fat? at October 13, 2026 12:07 PM (anL5R) 235

....... Portugal has them everywhere. I let my daughter and grandson drive everywhere. They figured it out with lots of colorful language. Posted by: wth at October 13, 2026 12:09 PM (UjdFS) 236
How do you not know how to use a traffic circle? It’s not exactly rocket surgery. After the first time you use one, you know how to use it.

MOTHERFUCKER THERE'S NO STOP SIGN AT THE END OF THE GORRAM ON RAMP!!
Saw someone flipped the other day who agreed with you. We have a tight cloverleaf where both lanes are hidden from each other until you have 70 feet left to decide what to do. (I measured) If PennDOT fixed it, the nine emergency vehicles would have had nothing to do. Posted by: t-bird at October 13, 2026 12:15 PM (Gue38) Processing 0.06, elapsed 0.0486 seconds. |
