Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | MORNING RANT - The Memphis Situation: Tennessee Shouldn't Need Federal Help; “Bake the Cake” Rules Should Apply to Pizza Parlor Denying Service to Guardsmen![]() • Sexual assaults down 30% • Robberies down 47% • Aggravated assault down 29% I am grateful to President Trump for coming to Memphis’ rescue, but Tennessee shouldn’t have to run to Uncle Sam to police our prominent failed city. If Memphis needs a takeover, the state should do it. I hope Marsha Blackburn will be more assertive as governor when it comes to dealing with Memphis than Governor Bill Lee has been. If Memphis cannot be rehabilitated, it should be dissolved into smaller municipalities. Those sub-sections of Memphis that are capable of becoming self-governing cities should be given that chance. Any remaining parts of Memphis that are not capable of self-government should become a ward of the state until they can be reconstructed into a functioning municipal entity. The same applies to Shelby County as a whole. Whatever restrictions there might be in Tennessee law that would impede this can easily be fixed by amending the state constitution. To be fair to Governor Lee, he did sign legislation a few months ago authorizing the state to take over Memphis’ failed schools. In accordance with the new law, the governor appointed an oversight board for Memphis schools, but Federal District Judge Waverly Crenshaw (an Obama appointee, of course) put a temporary restraining order on the new board. Fortunately, that restraining order is about to expire and it looks like the state will start administering Memphis schools. That is a start. As for the pizza incident involving the National Guard… “Memphis pizza joint owner under fire for denying service to National Guard troops” [NY Post – 7/16/2026] A Memphis pizzeria owner is facing fierce backlash after refusing over the weekend to serve members of the National Guard deployed to the city to combat crime. Miles Tamboli, proprietor of Tamboli’s Pasta & Pizza, sparked the controversy by turning away troops stationed in the city since September 2025 — and he declared in a Thursday statement that he would “make the same decision tomorrow.” Tamboli argued that utilizing soldiers trained for overseas combat in local law enforcement roles has compromised city safety.I would defend Mr. Tamboli’s right to refuse service to National Guardsmen - no matter how vulgar his actions might seem to me - if conservative business owners had a similar right to refuse service based on conscience, beliefs, and values. But that is not the case. There are two sets of rules based on the politics of the business owner. Per Title II of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, public accommodations (which includes private businesses) may not deny service based on race, color, religion, or national origin. Tamboli’s Pizza is apparently free to deny service to Americans wearing their country’s military uniform, but Patriot Pizza is prohibited from denying service to gang members, cross-dressing men, or jihadis. The extent of how one-sided the denial-of-service rules are was evidenced by the Masterpiece Cakeshop case. Jack Phillips, a Christian, was willing to sell a gay couple a wedding cake, but he refused to create a custom cake with two groom toppers on it. The state of Colorado Civil Rights Commission pursued punitive actions, including mandatory re-education for Phillips and his staff for the purpose of making them endorse sex between two men. The case went to the Supreme Court where Justice Roberts and the Supremes effectively punted on the case, allowing the state of Colorado to continue its persecution of Mr. Phillips. Based on the Masterpiece Cakeshop precedent, it is only fair that Tamboli’s should be forced to make a custom pizza with “Support the National Guard” spelled out in pepperonis. Again, my original principles would be that both Masterpiece Cakeshop and Tamboli’s Pizza should be able to refuse service to anyone they want, including soldiers or gay men. But that is not to be. My succeeding principle is that the left must abide by the rules they impose on conservatives. Bake the pizza, bigot. [buck.throckmorton at protonmail dot com] Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Either you bake the cake and bake the pie for everybody, or you can choose who you do the baking for in your establishment.
If that means you won't serve Repubicans or Democrats, so be it. If that means you won't serve Whites or Black or Muzzies, or Jews, or Gays, so be it. Either you have one set of rules applicable to everybody, or you don't have rules at all. Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) at October 09, 2026 11:04 AM (l3cgK) 11

Laura Ingraham @IngrahamAngle 🚨 British teen ARRESTED over Facebook post. Fraser: “I had posted a numerous amount of posts criticizing the councillor… And I must have hit his nerve a bit, so he reported me to the police.” “As an elected official you’re supposed to be there to represent the people, not to be sitting on your phone getting paid to do nothing.” - It all started when Fraser noticed that councilman Simon Bennett showed up to a formal meeting in a T-shirt and shorts, which is still a big faux pas in jolly old England. At the next meeting, Bennett came dressed in a suit. Fraser posted to Facebook that the politician no longer looked "like a rent boy," which is a slang term for gay prostitutes. - Check the unique hairstyle at the link. https://tinyurl.com/2y7e68nz Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks, Where's My Cookie? at October 09, 2026 11:21 AM (ndZc7) 70

Posted by: Chuck Martel ====== Chuck is right. Criminals born and bred in big cities also travel to your very community by way of interstates. They go visit Cuz in the country and do their gang banging thing right in Sleepytown USA. The thug diaspora after Katrina had N'Awlins hood rats spread throughout the south spiking crime levels whereever they ended up. Back when actual research was done, a guy at University of Memphis mapped crime--for a long time, it was confined in Memphis to the projects. Project housing closed, and welfare housing vouchers replaced it. After that, crime exploded across Memphis even in previously safe places due to Section 8 bringing in gang bangers to the magic dirt of safe areas. Became not safe areas in short order. The Jaguar ad with no cars and lots of freaky looking people was universally mocked, especially here. They've now revealed the new model on which they've staked the company. It will cost 130k pounds (don't know what that is in real money), is all electric, and has no back window, so you have to see behind you via a camera.
It will be built entirely in Britain, but if they sell as many cars as they did last month (6), it won't matter. Their strategy is the Bud Lite strategy: we hate our current customers and want to drive them away, and bring in all NEW customers. It's a bold strategy, Cotton. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6WRnkmIm_I Posted by: Archimedes at October 09, 2026 11:32 AM (Riz8t) 112

If this is true, this is actually a time to pray for Talarico. We should, of course, savagely mock his smug, awful campaign advisors, by all means...and while yes, of course, this would be disqualifying for Talarico's aspirations to be a Texas Senator, we must hold empathy for anyone undergoing crisis. Campaigns are brutal, and not everybody is cut out for it. You need very thick skin. As much as I don't want Talarico anywhere near government, I also don't want wish him harm, and no political office is worth having a breakdown. His awful advisors are at fault for this. They pushed him to be something he isn't, and it didn't work. I'm praying that this isn't true, and he's OK. Posted by: Warai-otoko Not really, Talafreako's only shot for an upset was to spike blue turnout to eleventy and have GOP not turn out for Paxton. That appears to not be the case. More importantly, Talafreako's disappearance is probably affecting down ballot competitive races in Texas for the US House mostly around the Rio Grande IRRC. The building momentum in Florida for Donalds and Moore is likely going to depress Dem turnout in that state making it easier to turn the House redistricting there also into gains. 135 Not really, Talafreako's only shot for an upset was to spike blue turnout to eleventy and have GOP not turn out for Paxton.
FWIW, this matters in PA because of contested House races.
"CA ET Nerd @earlyvotedata · 50m Pennsylvania Early Absentee Update 10/9: Republicans had another big swing their way with returns with a HUGE 1.92% gain over Democrats. They also gained slightly (+0.22%) with their new requests, which is something they need to keep up. You can see in the 3rd image the share % for each party and in the last few days Rs are really gaining. Overall, we are trending towards seeing something around 2022 and likely better for the GOP in terms of absentee volume being lower: that means a lower Democrat lead going into election day. Final returns for 2022 and 2024 are in the 4th image." Posted by: whig at October 09, 2026 12:03 PM (E4rtv) 238

From Hot Air:
Last week, Republicans effectively pulled the plug on Michael Whatley, who is running for Senate in North Carolina. Instead, they’re redirecting their funds to Kansas. That’s right, Kansas. And to put this into perspective, we’re not talking about a few thousand bucks being shuffled around. We’re talking tens of millions of dollars in canceled ad buys and pulled spending — the whole nine yards. Now here’s where we run into an issue: if we’re meant to believe that Republicans will hold the Senate, then that would surely mean holding onto North Carolina, right? While I’m no swampy consultant, I know Kansas is a far cry from a swing state, so if Republicans are cutting their losses in North Carolina to save Kansas, that paints a much, much bleaker picture than Congressional leadership would have us imagine.
