Saudi Arabia Joins Yemen's Government in Attacking Iran's Houthi Proxy Army

The IRGC's proxy army in Yemen, the Houthis, struck two Saudi airfields, with light damage. More seriously, they had also seized key positions on the southern tip of the Yemeni coast on the Red Sea, opening a second front for the IRGC to attack the export of oil in an effort to force the world to stop Trump from destroying them.

The terrorist-aligned AP:

Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation said airports in the cities of Najran and Jizan were hit on Monday, damaging both facilities and leaving three lightly injured. The statement didn't say who was responsible, but followed an announcement by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels that they fired missiles and drones at the kingdom.

Houthi Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree said in a statement on Tuesday they had fired toward a third airport on Tuesday. The Associated Press could not confirm whether the Houthis had hit Abha International Airport. Saudi authorities did not immediately comment.

The Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen said Tuesday it intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Iran-backed Houthis toward Khamis Mushait, a city in southwestern Saudi Arabia that's home to a major Saudi military base.

Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey have sent their own troops to assist the Yemeni government in driving the Houthis back out of the coastal areas.

...

The Houthis were fighting Tuesday around Dhubab, a strategic town in Yemen that its internationally recognized government had previously said it had retaken, a senior Yemeni military official told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to reporters.

Saudi Arabia and its allies in Yemen's government have launched a military campaign to reclaim Houthi-controlled territory near the southern tip of the Red Sea to prevent disruptions to oil being exported out of the region.

AP is excited that Iran managed to hit a tanker moving out of the Strait of Hormuz, though the hit does not seem to have killed anyone, stopped the tanker from moving, or caused any oil to spill.

An outbound tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an "unknown projectile" on Monday, the British military said in a late report Tuesday. There were no immediate reports of casualties or environmental impact.

Even as Iran has lost its near-complete chokehold on the strait, the ongoing risk of Iranian attacks keeps overall ship traffic well below prewar levels.

Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey have activated the "Mecca Defense Alliance" to evict the Houthis.

Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey have agreed to "activate collective defense commitments amid ongoing threats," Saudi Arabia's Arab News said on October 6. This is an important step.

The new alliance has emerged over the last several months. The Houthi offensive in September in Yemen presented the coalition with its first major test. This is because the Houthis launched missiles at Saudi Arabia and directly harmed Saudi citizens.

Arab News said that "Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey on Monday agreed to immediately implement collective-defense commitments under the previously agreed Mecca Defense Alliance, including the swift deployment of agreed forces and other military capabilities to the Kingdom amid ongoing threats."

Saudi Arabia has been working over the last month to prepare a counter-offensive in Yemen. This initiative came after setbacks hit the forces of the internationally recognized government of Yemen, which lost ground around the Bab el-Mandeb strait.

Many observers wondered whether Pakistan and Turkey would come to Riyadh's aid. All of these countries are either partners or close allies of the US, and they have access to advanced military equipment, partly as a result of their US affiliation.

However, it was not clear that Turkey would want to get involved in a conflict in Yemen. In part, this is because Ankara tries to balance relations with Iran, with which it shares a border. Pakistan also has ties with Iran and shares a border with Iran.

Now, Turkey and Pakistan appear to be increasing their support for Riyadh. "The decision was announced following an emergency meeting of the alliance's Strategic Political and Defense Committee in Riyadh to discuss security developments and threats Saudi Arabia is facing during the regional conflict with Iran and its proxies. The alliance was formed by an agreement signed on August 7," Arab News observed.

Update: More details on the fighting from Duane Patterson.

See this graphic video to see Saudis running down and gunning down Houthis while mounted in troop transports. (I guess, I can't see the vehicles. It's POV.)

There were also deadly drone attacks on ground forces.

There are conflicting claims about who launched these attacks, and against whom. Some accounts claim these are videos of Houthi drones attacking Saudi forces, and other accounts say they're Saudi drones hitting the Houthis.

I'm not sure which is correct. The drones are hitting pick-up trucks, which are usually associated with terrorist/guerilla armies, not professional armies. So I'm guessing the IRGC-controlled Houthis are lying and repurposing videos of their own deaths as great victories.

Max Afterburner says the videos show Saudi drones hitting Houthis.

But pedophile Scott Ritter, who has been pushing Islamist propaganda for decades now, claims these are Houthi drones. He says this on Russia Today, of course.

Most of the "tankers" Iran has hit are cargo vessels that docked with Iran (humanitarian aid is allowed through the blockade, all of which are boarded and inspected by the US Navy).

Their rial is roughly 2.7 million to the USD and there's open urban warfare between IRGC and Basij forces and some kind of uprising.

The actual economy has collapsed and the barter system has mostly replaced any currency.

Iran has no access to dollars and can only pay their troops in rials which can't buy anything.

The humanitarian aid isn't doing much. I doubt it's even pumping the brakes.

46 New tanker hit and why the us isn't doing jackshit to uphold their "tanker for tanker" doctrine. "why isn't Trump responding?" Air defense munitions depleted, midterms approaching, pivoting to helping Saudi Arabia against Yeman...if they attack Iran, they may be overwhelmed by the retaliation, and it looks like Iran knows it.

Do these attacks just do some damage to the tankers?? Why isn't iran trying to sink tankers but rather just causing damage to them. Like won't sinking one or two ships (which the US has done to iran near the indian coast) raise human capital and insurance to an unprecedented scale?

Iran is just doing enforcement, not trying to escalate with these strikes. Removing a ship from service for weeks, months or more is doing plenty. It ensures that normal traffic cannot return to the Strait which seems to be their strategic goal for the time being.

Iran gets a significant amount of food from fishing the strait. If they sank a fully or even partially loaded tanker the amount of oil released could be catastrophic to that food supply. Not to mention ancillary ecological affects to the area.

Desert tribes that would raid each other from time to time. North and south unified in 1990, but they've continued to fight each other ever since. They will always fight each other.

We recognized the north ("Houthis") from 1946 to 1967, when they kicked us out, then again from 1972 to 1990. We recognized the south from 1972 to 1990 (and arguably until today).

Oil and Gas are also about as dense as water or lighter. There are a number of cases in WWII of savaged tankers hanging around for days. One was the Tanker Ohio sending fuel to Malta, it took 2 destroyers tied alongside to move her the last day or so travel and once they pumped out the fuel the keel of the ship broke and it sunk in harbor, but saved Malta from having to surrender.

Both suspects remain at large, and while NYPD hasn't officially released their names yet,

They do. Russia and the Ukes used it here or there over the years. You can fry out the drone itself and it worked for a while, now they harden them up more if they care.

Plus those EMP carriers are uncommon, so there's room for the cheap ones for scouting, screwing with the grunts in the cracks. If they have a good target they send in a big and fast one directly.

149 “The record the Weaponization Working Group reviewed indicates that the Garland Memorandum was the product of pressure from senior Biden Administration officials working closely with the NSBA—indeed, as noted above, the NSBA itself admitted as much in its after-action report.”

The proposal disturbed attorneys within the Department of Justice. Attorneys in the Criminal Division “strongly” objected to merging the two topics, with one calling it “horrible.” Their concern was focused on the optics of attempting to address parental protests of school boards in an Attorney General Memorandum also discussing threats to election officials. They believed it would “look political. One attorney said that if leadership did “this, they might as well rename the damn thing the Anti-MAGA Task Force.” It would be, another agreed, “tupid, stupid, stupid.” And another attorney pointed out that making the “DOJ/FBI . . . the threats police” lacked a “limiting principle.”

190 I don't understand. Why can't the drone just fly over the fence? Does the fence somehow catch the fiberoptic control line? Or do you mean a fence on your vehicle so they can't trigger automatically on contact? If so, why couldn't the operator trigger it on proximity?
Posted by: bonhomme
--------------

I'm with you. Armour solved the problem of anti-armor rounds by having reactive armor that blows up the round before it blows up the armor underneath.

The rounds countered that by having two stacked shaped charges - the first one blows up the reactive armor, the second then hits the armor blowing up the vehicle.

OK so why can't drones blow a hole in the fence first? Maybe it takes two drones, but that should not be a big deal. They could probably ride the same fiber and work in coordination. But I don't see that happening so I guess I am wrong.

well the owl makes it surely Vandenburg.

A small drone with a light and presumably a camera for observation fits pretty well. Sound would be minimal at a distance. Estimations of height, speed and the like are often not too trustworthy because if you think its far, then a moderate speed becomes blazing fast.

199 Yemen's a real dump. Khat accounts for half its GDP. That's never a great sign, but what makes it much worse than, say, Colombia in the 80s, is that most of it doesn't get exported.

It's just dope for the home market, which was largely born dumb before they even got their first jar of Gerber's Tot-Khat puree.

Then, to make matters *even worse,* water-intensive Khat production accounts for 40% of the irrigated arable land in a country that is perennially malnourished and short of potable water.

But... the Houthi militias control the Khat trade, so it works for them.

It's probably trying to get a Dog Distribution System going, the way cats have.

202 OK so why can't drones blow a hole in the fence first? Maybe it takes two drones, but that should not be a big deal. They could probably ride the same fiber and work in coordination. But I don't see that happening so I guess I am wrong.

its hard to blow holes in a fence, as the force goes through holes. In WWI artillery had a hell of a time blowing apart barbed wire reliably. Then you have to have the second drone hit the same gap, on a vehicle bouncing down a road at 30 mph.

And as for having multiple drones on the same optic cable, that's not gonna help, the cable isn't a guide its just a tail.

203 Then, to make matters *even worse,* water-intensive Khat production accounts for 40% of the irrigated arable land in a country that is perennially malnourished and short of potable water.

But... the Houthi militias control the Khat trade, so it works for them.

I pray you're correct and the military is testing some silent weapons or something.

Presumably you could design a chain link fence defeater but it would cost more than just designing a drone that fires a ground attack missile from an aircraft with a lot of mass behind it. And that costs more than the average truck or SUV driving about in the warzone.
