Andrew Wyeth doesn't often do 'happy' scenes like Norman Rockwell. (Even his "Christina's World" is about a crippled woman facing, literally, an uphill struggle.) Although accurate, he doesn't try for photo-realism. What he does is effective through focus, color and perspective. In this one the focus is on the dead bird that couldn't survive the winter. The colors of the land are drab, the sky is dark and cold, and the trees in the distance are bare and stark. It is unromantic nature.
But it isn't despair. The viewer knows it is a season, not permanent. The plants in the foreground with their seed pods speak of new life to come. Not one of Wyeth's I would hang but it is worth the time to examine. Posted by: JTB at October 09, 2026 09:49 AM (yTvNw) 99

Poor ace.😢
Winter Fields, 1942 17 5/16 × 41 in. Andrew Wyeth Whitney Museum of American Art When many American artists were turning toward abstraction, Andrew Wyeth remained a realist, producing precise, evocative paintings of the places he knew best. Winter Fields depicts a dead, frozen crow Wyeth found near his home in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. He took the bird into his studio, sketched it, and then painted it in exquisite detail from a worm’s-eye view, which magnifies the bird relative to its surroundings and thereby suggests the wider significance of its death. Completed during World War II, Winter Fields recalls similarly unflinching photographs of corpses lying on battlefields. Yet Wyeth resented comparisons of his work to photography and said he despised cameras. In fact, despite its apparent precision, Winter Fields subtly distorts reality. The distant trees are as sharply focused as the crow in the foreground—an impossibility for both the human eye and the camera lens. This visual effect compresses the pictorial space toward the surface, and is accentuated by the lacelike, overlapping blades of grass, which create a delicate surface pattern. A local, I'm biased.💖 Posted by: L - No nic... at October 09, 2026 10:00 AM (NFX2v) 127

The core problem with Talarico's campaign beyond the fact that he's a Democrat running in a deep red state is that his past is full of crazy woke comments about God being non-binary, there being six genders, his hating Christianity, him loving trans-kids, him voting against bills in the state House that banned Chinese ownership of land in the state, and his avowed hatred of white skin.
He was a woke retard in the state house. He didn't get pushed to the left when he decided to run for US senate. He had to pull himself towards the center. If that causes him a mental breakdown, he's a bad person and we should mock his infirmities. Posted by: TheJamesMadison, taking speed with Bob Fosse at October 09, 2026 10:46 AM (1kJuV) 278
