74 Well, Crawford likes his straight lines, strong converging perspective, and blocks of color. Sort of a simplified photograph. (In fact, I would be more impressed if it were a photograph.) Interesting to look at briefly and then move on. Rather sterile. Not something I would hang.

80 Growing up my parents had a beach house in Galveston. I use to drive in from Houston and as soon as I drove over the causeway I would roll my car window so my dogs could smell the fish and salt water. It's always been one of my favorite smells.

Is this the one where the Army did the experiments and found out the cohort that had been vaccinated did worse than non vaccinated? Fauci wasn’t involved in the experiment but he thought it should be classified because it would create vaccine reluctance.

123 On a back country highway near the town of Slick Rock in western Colorado there is a runaway truck ramp that looks kind of like this painting. It just ends abruptly at what appears to be a lip, with nothing beyond. I always imagine a ravine beyond the end of the ramp, piled high with runaway trucks. Like a Far Side cartoon.

(For those of you who are Flat Earthers, a runaway truck ramp is a feature of steep downhill road grades consisting of an exit lane that leads to a long uphill grade filled with sand or gravel. This lane gives truckers whose brakes have failed the ability to safely coast a halt. I do not recommend pulling your minivan off here for a family picnic.)

134 @113 Just saw on our beloved Fox News they're playing up a measles outbreak in Pennsylvania so they can get vaccine mandates on the Amish. Remember when the Brady kids all got the measles? They got off from school for a few days and recovered.

But you can't keep Jayden, Hunter, and Olivia from going to school and travel ball practice. Dad's a music therapist and Mom's a very important college administrator so they can't stay home with the kids even though they're all over the age of 10.

Saw Heart of the Beast yesterday.

Excellent movie in the Jack London "To Build a Fire" and "Call of the Wild" man and dog in the wilderness tradition.

Plot involves an ex-soldier and his retired war-dog stranded in the Alaskan wilderness after a plane crash, and their efforts to survive and get back home.

Good direction and great acting in a minimal story with realistic stakes. Kudos to Brad Pitt for being willing to look grizzled and approaching 29.

194 The dead center of the frame is offset to the lower left of the vanishing point. To me this creates a sublime tension in the image the keeps the eye unsettled. The clouds complete the composition by contrasting the strong, even oppressive, linear lines; they perfect the image.

There is an odd, surreal lack of a directional light. The dark areas of the right rail imply sunlight coming from the high right. However, the left rails are in the same tonal range as the right side dark areas - I want to read both as shadows however the left should lit up. This is another moment of sublime tension in the image.

Then there are the color division, large slabs of light green to the left, deep blue to the right and a blue on top, in what appears to be the same hue but with greater luminosity that completes the sense of depth.

I could go on but those are the bones of the image as I see them This is a fabuloso bit of work.

He was supposedly bringing together a project at Netflix called Unrecorded Night. It was supposed to be 13 episodes long.

People involved call it the best script he ever had, but, you know, hyperbole of a recently deceased and well-beloved figure. We'll never know, though.

Apparently, Jack Smith is not so much being probed over his investigations concerning the President, but rather January 6th is being re-probed by the democrats in the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.
