41 The frying pan on the wall reminds me of the annual test at grandma's house. She had an iron skillet that she regularly cooked with. She could pick the thing up and scoop its contents around with ease -- at 80 years old. We'd line up like knights attempting to take the sword from the stone, to see if we could lift the pan without our wrists wilting under the weight. I was well into my teens before I could manage it with difficulty.

A friend had an automatic chicken plucker. It was like the tub from a washing machine with stiff rubber fingers sticking through it. The base of the tub was connected to a 1hp electric motor that spun it at a relatively high speed. Toss in the chicken and it would tumble around and remove the feathers.

Seemed violent to me......Not sure how well it worked, or if the carcass was actually viable after the ride.....

In Chinatown years ago I stopped in a local place for lunch. There was a table of old Chinese grandmas behind me that were hacking the hell out of a entire (cooked) chicken that sat in the middle of the table. It was among the most brutal, vicious things I have ever witnessed. The fact that they were doing it with chopsticks somehow made it even worse.

A friend had an automatic chicken plucker. It was like the tub from a washing machine with stiff rubber fingers sticking through it. The base of the tub was connected to a 1hp electric motor that spun it at a relatively high speed. Toss in the chicken and it would tumble around and remove the feathers.

Seemed violent to me......Not sure how well it worked, or if the carcass was actually viable after the ride.....

True dat. My Dad showed my brother and I the same trick in our back yard when he put the chicken's head on the treestup and chopped it off. Head fell to ground, chicken ran in circles for about a minute or two and then fell over dead. Chicken was de-feathered and brought in to meet Mr. Pot.

As my grandmother aged, she a once heavy drinker, she started to struggle walking a bit. There were some steep stairs in the house that were a concern. My brother and uncle would tighten the booze bottle lids to prevent her from day drinking when no one was around.

My uncle went to the house and found her in the basement with the bottle of Jim Beam upside down in the vice with her standing there: "There's something wrong with these bottles!"

249 Late to the tread. This is a delightful painting: bright, funny, and realistic to the point that the details are clear and easy to see. Nothing complicated. It looks like an Italian Norman Rockwell painting. What makes the image so effective is the little girl's laughing reaction to the chicken on the table.

PS: The artist sort of specialized in scenes and portraits involving young woman, usually in a social setting. But in at least one case that included a portrait with some very nice boobies.

That's what happened here with hurricane Beryl. We got so much rain Inspector was joking that it had to be a special effect (his first hurricane after living in mostly desert climates) and *then* the wind blew. Live oaks have shallow roots.

As long as they don't fall on my house or car I'm ok with it. A neighbor had one come down in his yard last year and it luckily fell the other direction. Losing power at some point seems inevitable.
