This remarkable picture is a meditation on death and resurrection. Christ’s dead body is displayed on a broken throne inscribed in pseudo-Hebrew. A bird, a symbol of the soul, flies upward. The landscape—contrastingly barren and lush—alludes to the themes of death and life, as do the animals. The Old Testament prophet Job sits on a block inscribed in pseudo-Hebrew while opposite is Saint Jerome (ca. 347–420), who wrote a commentary on the book of Job. The turbaned figures in the background would have been familiar to Venetians through their trade with the Middle East and Egypt.

If that were the case, then Job would be the one with no clothing. But Jerome was always depicted with a quill and a book, to show he was a writer, and I don’t see that here.

The people here are so much happier when the local teams do good.

I'm hoping one day soon, they'll just accept the disappointment and adopt a "there's always next year!" mentality.

107 18-year old Texas high school football player Aiden Craig tragically died after suffering a medical emergency during a physical fitness test while training to become a U.S. Marine.

Craig had recently graduated from Wylie High School, where he was a two-year varsity football player. The defensive end recorded 50 tackles, four sacks, six QB pressures and six tackles for loss during his senior season, earning Second Team All-District honors.

Just weeks after graduation, Craig enlisted in the Marine Corps. He was 47 days into recruit training when he suffered the medical emergency on August 1. He was hospitalized and died four days later on August 5. The Marine Corps posthumously awarded him the title of Marine.

His family is now honoring his memory by establishing an educational endowment through the Wylie ISD Education Foundation, hoping Aiden’s name and legacy will continue helping students in his community.

Thoughts and Prayers to Craig's family. Rest in peace.

133 Well, we have had a couple private showings of the house and have some interest. One broker who basically has till Monday at 5 PM to get the money he wants out of the deal, or we have another offer slightly higher that will be in play after that.

We're not making the money we could, but that would've taken us doing lots of things over the last few years we just didn't have opportunity to do. We'll be Ok with what we've been offered and it will get us toward were we want to be alright.

Next week will be interesting and we'll find out where we stand after that.

I have used Thunderbird for years and years; it has been updated, and still works fine, and comes built into many Linux distros. I open TB, it goes to the mailserver, and downloads any new messages automatically. Done.

209 TCM today- Leslie Caron all day and two Kubrick movies tonight. Never seen "The Shining"- don't like horror, but should probably check it off the list. Ditto "Jaws".

The Film on Film series on Friday nights have been really good. I reccomend.

I have never cared for Kubrick's The Shining. Jaws on the other hand is superb stuff.

I think he is under recognized as a genre painter. Lots of stuff going on in his works. I love his painting of St. Augustine in his Study...

It's a great story, but Kubrick muffled it with poor casting. King himself said, "I handed Kubrick a live hand grenade, and he heroically threw his body on top of it."

There's a TV miniseries version from 1997 with Rebecca DeMornay which is much closer to the novel.
