New York Post: Disney Groomer Network ABC Will Not Renew Jimmy Kimmel's Contract, Show Will End in 2027

This is just what Page 6 "is told." There is no official word on this, and in fact the Disney Groomer Network is "pushing back" against the claim.

Next season of ABC's late-night show "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" will be the last, Page Six is told.
"His contract is not getting extended," a source familiar with the situation explained.
The season begins Tuesday and would wrap up, after 24 years on the air, in May 2027.
A spokesperson for ABC Entertainment told us, "[This] information is inaccurate -- any reports about the future of the show at this point are purely speculative."

That's barely a denial.

Kimmel takes pride in signing year-to-year deals, which are rare in the TV biz and allow him unusual flexibility.
The news comes on the heels of Rosie O'Donnell completing a four-night guest-hosting run on his show that was a ratings success.

O'Donnell was "in her element," a source told us. So much so that she went viral for mocking her longtime nemesis, President Trump, by performing a parody of the traditional Irish song "Danny Boy" that she called "Donnie Boy."

Cost reductions may have played a factor in their decision to part ways with Kimmel because, as one ABC source said, "it wouldn't have anything to do with Trump."

It's hard to find Jimmy Kimmel's average ratings, because most search results are about ratings in specific weeks. But I found an article stating that his average ratings over an entire quarter in 2025 were 1.77 million.

And Rosie O'Donnell got 1.87 million.

If I were an executive, what I would take from this is that I can plop any non-talent in the 11:35 pm slot and get better ratings than Jimmy Kimmel.

Hell hasn't yet broken loose, no burning US flags or effigies.

I did ask one of the AIs about some of the DisneyChannel shows they have on now. Cute, funny and not safe for kids because even though they stepped back from the gay shit and BET for kids, every white girl wants the black guy.

But they cancelled the new 'Wizards Beyond Waverly Place' even though it's ratings were really good for them. It was a cute show.

But AI says unless shows become major hits, they're getting cancelled before 3 seasons when staff would be getting raises.

But after going woke, conservatives and caring parents don't let their kids watch so I don't see how they'll ever have another big hit again. And how do you build any sort of loyalty cancelling everything after two seasons?

I'd think Disney would have the cash, but AI said no.

I suspect that the last few years of Baby Boomers are more like Gen X than the oldest cohort. Like averages, the categories try to stuff life experiences of generations into a box so it can be analyzed. That requires sanding off the rough edges to work. Most social science work relies on good enough measures as humans have volition unlike the natural sciences.

I think Disney is like Nike, past its glory days and broadcast TV division, even under Eisner, was on the chopping block to be sold. High salaries and costs in relation to revenue. And that requires major downsizing. That is what led to Colbert being canned--the sale of that network to new owners.

Broadcast, if it survives, is likely to be more like Weird Al's UHF than the old polished one. Cutting costs to the bone and wall to wall pharma ads.

And I think that is a problem in an of itself. I can watch Johnny Carson in the prime of his days with stars of my yesteryears, I can watch Craig Ferguson's controlled insanity, the best clips of other late night shows of the past as well. Why do I need to watch the dying and sad current shows. Any good clips are available on demand while I don't have to watch the entire show and its ads.

Youtube and social media has essentially created a curated list of highlight reels for shows.

One thing I noticed it that sometimes he had more experienced actresses on and you can tell she would have had her professional flirting act on and he'd work with that.

And sometimes it was someone newer to the self promotion part of acting or just shy and he'd be way more gentle and overcome the woman's nervousness. It was a pretty impressive thing to watch as I don't think they had time to script this stuff out so he was really responding to people in the moment...

One thing I noticed it that sometimes he had more experienced actresses on and you can tell she would have had her professional flirting act on and he'd work with that.

And sometimes it was someone newer to the self promotion part of acting or just shy and he'd be way more gentle and overcome the woman's nervousness. It was a pretty impressive thing to watch as I don't think they had time to script this stuff out so he was really responding to people in the moment...

I read an article a few years ago about the importance on the rotisserie chicken to Costco, and how they had to source their own farms to have a specific chicken breed. Normal chicken farms keep breeding bigger and bigger chickens (that cost more, because they're heavier). Costco has a certain breed custom raised to keep the weight consistent, and the birds small enough to fit multiple in their existing rotisserie infrastructure.

I think the new management at ABC will end up dismantling the whole broadcast, theme parks, movie, cable divisions. The cable and broadcast are simply not making the money anymore like they used to due to slumping cable ratings and carriage fees and slumping broadcast tv audiences. And the ad money is going somewhere else as well.

The economics of Colbert's show, for example are brutal--losing money every airing is not a way to success. And I'd imagine Kimmel's show has comparable cost to revenue problems that Colbert had.

The guy that assembled the Devil Mouse conglomerate, Bob Iger, recognized the problem but emotionally could not swing the axe to dismantle his own legacy. The new guy doesn't have that issue.

WMAL here in DC. Turn it on at any given point in time, and you're going to be in the middle of a block of ads.

I read that talk stations had to run a lot of ads because Rush charged so much for his show. I doubt that any of his successors can charge what he was charging, so maybe the stations could actually cut back on the ads and still make money.

235 I’m trying to think of the last Big 4 network show I watched. Maybe one of the 158 CSI or law and order spin offs.

The best big 4 show right now (and the only one to show up in the ratings) is Tracker on CBS. It's kind of old fashioned in that it's a straight man solving things, frequently by shooting bad guys in the face. I have no idea how that made it on the air post-George Floyd.

There are a lot of chemicals they are not pumping into them for that to be the case.

Would just mean they aren’t using any seasonings that contain wheat, like some soy sauces. I know Publix won’t label theirs gluten free because of potential cross contamination with breads, etc in a shared kitchen.

If you know where she's hiding try lying down on the floor and reading a book/flipping on a tablet quietly. Shy cats often feel more reassured that way and might allow curiosity to bring them out.
