Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Country Music Star and Actress Dolly Parton Dies at Age 80What did someone say of FDR? He had a third-rate mind but a first-rate temperament. Dolly Parton could be said to have been a first-rate talent with a first-rate temperament. Every time you saw her, she was was happy and cheerful and grateful and even humble. Washington Nearsider posted this quote:She was also pretty funny. Her nephew and head of her personal security had been asked to handle the public side of her death years ago, and so makes that announcement now. NY Post: Country music legend Dolly Parton has died at 80. Her family announced the devastating news in a video posted to Instagram Tuesday. "I am representing the Parton and Owens family today, announcing the passing of my Aunt Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean," a statement read by Dolly's nephew Bryan Seaver said. "The sadness lays with us, not with Dolly. Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus," Seaver continued. "Dolly also opened doors for generations of singers, songwriters, musicians and dreamers from every walk of life," he added. "By her example we believed that anything was possible. She never saw a door she couldn't open, and the doors she opened made and changed history." "My family and I have shared a lifetime of beautiful memories with Dolly, but so have you. She has always been on your television, your record player, you CD, and on your phone playlist, becoming an extended part of your family, whether you liked it or not." It remains unclear exactly what the country crooner died from, but last year she confided to fans that she had been suffering from health complications since the death of her husband Carl Dean earlier in the year. She had also cancelled a series of appearances and performances in the last year. Known as the queen of country music, Dolly was famous for a huge voice which belted out hits like "Jolene," "Joshua," and "9 to 5." She was also famous for her over-the-top looks, equally huge personality, charitable causes, and Dollywood theme park in her home state of Tennessee. What do you think? Post a comment. The superstar died over a year after her beloved husband, Carl Dean, who passed on March 3, 2025. Dolly was born in 1946 into a rural household with 10 siblings and no running water, saying over the years that she grew up "dirt poor" and had to scrape by with her family. But despite those struggles Dolly's mother encouraged her apparent musical talents -- by 5 she'd written her first song, by 10 she was singing on local radio shows and at just 13 years old she made her first appearance on the legendary live Grand Ole Opry radio performance in Nashville.I did not know that. That's where she met the likes of Johnny Cash and Porter Wagoner, two stars who she would work with throughout her career as she shot to super stardom. ... Despite those successes Dolly drove herself hard -- sometimes sleeping in cars and bathing in gas station sinks as she raced across the country from gig to gig for growing fanbase. "My bedroom was the backseat and [my Uncle Bill Owens'] was the front seat," Dolly said during a 2018 appearance on "Shine On With Reese." "I'd wash my hair in the filling station bathrooms and put makeup on in the side mirror of the car, and that was just how you did it."

By the way, she wrote that. You might think that's obvious but often movie songs are written and then a signer is just hired to sing it. But she also wrote it. (Obviously she wrote the others, I was just unsure on 9 to 5.)
======= The only thing I know about Parton is that in her preparation to be in 9 to 5, she memorized every line she had like it was a play. It was apparently just naivete on her part about how movie making works, but she came prepared. Dolly, Dolly.
Dolly got her really big catapult to the general national audience from Johnny Carson. In the days of the Palestinians he told a joke involving Yasser Arafat, punchline being, "Dolly Parton said, 'Yessir EyeAre Fat." She wrote Carson a note about the joke. He invited her and she became a guest next week. He introduced her, for the first time, to an audience who had never seen her. That was it. There are not many famous people I can think of who were famous for their talent, cheerful disposition, optimism, great wit and kindness.
Dolly Parton had them all as well as much of her wealth going to charity and literacy. She's an example to many and won't be forgotten, not just for her talent but her person. By all accounts always kind and loving. Never took a wrong step in public and beloved by many. May she RIP as she joins her husband and touches the face of God. The song that touches my heart is her voice with Brad Paisley, "When I Get Where I'm Going." There'll be only happy tears...don't cry for me down there." The words of the lyrics and melody are gorgeous and meaningful. The angels surely gained another today who will sing in the celestial choir. xoxo https://tinyurl.com/mr3kmhaw Posted by: ChristyBlinkyTheGreat at August 25, 2026 03:59 PM (hzuYO) 57

Dolly was only in Islands in the Stream because she happened to be at the studio that day. Kenny had been beating his head against the wall over the song and was just about to give up. It wasn't intended to be a duet, but the producer suggested Dolly, so they asked her. She came in *cold* and they nailed it in one take.

A Charlotte man charged with making detailed threats to carry out mass shootings at five public schools has been released from jail just three days before students in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools district were scheduled to return to class. The man’s release has sparked outrage among parents concerned for their children’s safety. Drew Andres Owens, 33, was released from the Mecklenburg County Jail at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday after posting a reduced bond, according to jail records obtained by the New York Post, with the new school year beginning today. Dolly was one of those rare people who, by all appearances, everyone loved. A cheery woman who probably treated all people like they were special to her. She was always happy, smiling, joyous. My favorite song by her, and equally one my of all time favorite country songs, was 'Jolene.' If you haven't acquainted yourself with it yet, do so. I also loved her in 9 to 5. She was the best part of the movie. It was really sad to hear of her passing. She's a true American icon.

124 If Dems really believed fraud was not a factor, they wouldnt fight this so hard. if anything, they would welcome it to legitimize election results. Nobody really believes minorities dont vote because they're too stupid to pull a driver's license out of their wallet. Posted by: Sharpie at August 25, 2026 03:08 PM (bhqEU) Technically, we're in the same position as police bodycam activists, before the results were known. We have a hypothesis that we believe in, and our opponents are fighting like they have something to hide. There is an asymmetry of risk, in our favor. If we're wrong like the bodycam people, the worst-case scenario is we find out the country is full of crazy idiots voting to be slaves. We can then move forward with learning how to manipulate them into voting for their own damn interests, while everyone has more trust in the system. The worst-case for the other side is that we're right, their election fraud is so endemic that they have completely forgotten how to win an honest election, and they could spend 40+ years in a permanent minority before they sort things out. It's not just the odds, the payout asymmetry is *fantastic*. Posted by: SciVo at August 25, 2026 04:43 PM (ke3zm) 244

Posted by: Ian S. at August 25, 2026 04:48 PM (2ocoG) We should respond by by telling them that WE own their land, that they are trespassing, and that they have 30 days to get the fuck out. Then we should take the recipe for poutine, encase it in a seamless silver box with three saint relics and holy water and then drop it into a volcano. Democrats like to call the nuking of Japanese cities in WW2 an immoral act. Posted by: An Observation sez Trump is my President at August 25, 2026 04:40 PM (ls5EI) Fuck that shit. Imperial Japan is lucky they only got nuked twice. Those genocidal savages should have been forced to drag Hirohito onto the deck of the USS Missouri so that he could kneel and suck on Nimitz's sweaty ball-sack. Lawmakers put millions toward a state library program aimed at bringing Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to California children.
------ Taxpayers should have known better. You can visit Dolly's charity's website and within 5 minutes grasp that ANYONE can "bring her program to ________" (fill in the blank) just by following their step-by-step how-to guide. It was never supposed to be a government program. Posted by: IllTemperedCur at August 25, 2026 04:51 PM (y9nCu) We firebombed every city in Japan but a handful - some for cultural reasons (Kyoto) and some to save for nuking. The nukes were impressive because we did them with one plane, not that their total damage was so much worse than the bombings we were doing to Japan, and Germany too for that matter. Just looked at the Imagination Library. It sends over 3 M books a month to children in the USA and four other countries who are ages birth to 5 years old.

Ok, in my youth I admit to going to Dollywood, which had some the most wonderful snack foods around. Cinnamon bread, smoked BBQ, Ham etc.
I remember being intrigued with what the place was before it became Dollywood. For about 2 or 3 years back in the 60's it was called "Rebel Railroad". You'd ride on a steam train, and througout the ride you'd be attacked by Union Army, Native Americans, and bandits...and the Confederates were the heroes that fought off each attack. Tough sell in today's world. That sounds kinda awesome. Posted by: NCDave at August 25, 2026 05:31 PM (1oAd9) 276
