Overwhelmingly meh would also mean that 100 master artists could spend their entire lives working to improve this piece and it would still be mid. It's mediocrity would swallow up their talent like the ocean swallows a single tear cried by Greta Thunberg when she discovers that someone, somewhere, is living comfortably.

84 Toulouse-Lautrec was a frustrating artist for my taste. He was capable of effective and emotional images in a way that reminds me of Andrew Wyeth. They seem to be the exception. Others look like he is channeling van Gogh, somewhat successfully. But most come across as cartoons: exaggerated and overly colorful. If I cared about turn of the century Parisian excesses I might enjoy his work more. Since I don't care, I'll leave his stuff to the galleries where I can ignore them.

I wonder what he could have done as a children's book illustrator.

An old, crusty farmer has successfully wooed and married a pretty, younger woman. He is taking her (and her baggage) to his home in his buggy. Along the way, the horse sees a sheep dog working his flock in a field and balks, stumbling. This knocks the man and woman askew in the buggy, nearly tumbling her to the ground.

The farmer gets out of the buggy, grabs the horse by his bridle, shakes vigorously, and says in a low growl, "That's one."

He remounts and they continue on their way.

105 A bit further down the road, the farmer tries to get the horse to maneuver around some large, washed out portions of the road. But the horse plods through the middle of them, causing gouts of muddy water to splash up on the bride.

The farmer gets out of the buggy, grabs the horse's bridle and shakes it, and says in a loud, menacing tone, "That's two!"

He remounts and the continue on.

About a mile from the house, the horse stumbles, going down, and taking the buggy with it, the front rails digging into the road and causing the man and his wife to slam into the front portion of the woodwork.

The farmer gets out, goes up to the horse, and shouts, "That's three!" He then takes out his revolver and shoots the horse.

The AI’s are so intelligent.

Toulouse-Lautrec’s The Trap is one of his darker images of Parisian nightlife. It’s not a literal trap so much as a picture of people caught in the social world of drinking, poverty, prostitution, and the margins of respectable Paris.

The title is especially suggestive because Lautrec was fascinated by Montmartre’s bars, brothels, dance halls, and the people who lived in them. He generally didn’t paint these people as moral warnings or grotesques. He knew many of them personally and tended to observe them with a surprisingly unsentimental sympathy

I'm still convinced that all of the election efforts are ultimately and mostly for 2028, not 2026.

DOJ knows legal timelines. They take a while. DOJ also knows that it can work through 2027 and 2028 even if Democrats take Congress.

The presidency is the only prize at the federal level anymore. Making sure Democrats can't win it in 2028 (leading into the 2030 census) is probably the most important project over the next decade.

We didn't get an extended exposure to leftists reacting to Romney, but it's hard to imagine the intensity of Bush McChimpHitler transferring to Romney. There's an exhaustion that sets in. A relief that the battle is one in some way because the Devil is gone from office.

And Trump has a specific feminine problem, his multiple wives and rumors of philandering. Vance doesn't have that. He's been happily married to his law school sweetheart and they have 4 kids together.

"Vance hates women," will be a refrain, but won't animate quite as much.

After the midterms, political attention will go toward the invisible primary where quasi interested pols will raise some money for a Super Pac, test the local political activists and officeholders in key early states to lock down commitments, and start laying down markers with interest groups/activists as to what their proposed agenda is.

Complicating matters is the fact they are no longer allowed to do their job in many jurisdictions. Inevitably this raises the question - why are we paying for this?

Some DEI hire actually held a press conference in Baltimore or someplace like that, allowing that roving bands of rioters "just need room to destroy". Don't be fooled, none of these clowns want to "defund the police" per se, they just want to infiltrate the institution, kill it, gut it, wear its skin as a suit and demand respect.

While they lock up decent, peaceable citizens. We're already in the "empty the prisons" stage, de facto, by way of refusing to incarcerate serial criminals.

How a Quartet of American Musicians Outwitted the KGB

"In 1985, while the United States engaged in a battle of nuclear brinkmanship, four Americans landed in Moscow on a mission to smuggle secret information in and out using music as their cipher. Under the watchful eye of the KGB, the group faced countless challenges and risks—because they weren’t trained in espionage. In fact, they were musicians with the New England-based Yiddish-music focused Klezmer Conservatory Band (KCB).
"Now, the quartet’s saxophonist, Merryl Goldberg, together with Vince Houghton, the Director of the National Security Agency’s National Cryptologic Museum, tell the harrowing story of how Goldberg devised an ingenious plan to encode the intelligence within the group’s sheet music."

Depends on whether you believe that the opposition to Trump is personality or policy.

I think for the leaders of the left globo homo, it is policy because Trump's policies destroy their power base (like an honest election and Census does in the US, destroying Iran's regime in the Middle East, etc.). Street level Dem Activists personalize this into Trump but have had a habit of demonizing every GOP president since Dewey with the possible exception of Ike. Ike, they just called dumb.
