Puppy tails have their own minds. The puppies have no idea what their tails are doing. Once they discover they HAVE tails, those tails get chased, because they are foreign to the puppy's consciousness.
And then they catch 'em. YIP! Puppies would not be nearly so squee without those silly tails. Posted by: tcn in AK at August 03, 2026 07:48 PM (FyeA3) 22

Posted by: RandomDave (if you can spare a bit, please click) at August 03, 2026 07:50 PM (aJQbY) We are living in our camper while the house is being renovated. Rained all damned day. I can't think of a single thing I have to do, let alone anything I really can do, except maybe sweeping the floor and making dinner. This may go down as the laziest summer I have ever lived, and that includes when I was a kid, because I was a busy kid. Luckily with Elon in the yard I have access to lots of books. I'm reading what DH calls my "summer crap" although I have mixed in a few real books with intellectual stuff. But just now I'm reading the "Silo" books, so yeah, just summer crap. Posted by: Aetius451AD work phone at August 03, 2026 07:58 PM (zZu0s) ======= 90s and 2000s were the height of DVD as a format, so most of what got pushed out individually was in that era. Everything got a release. If you collected during that period, you'd have to really try to not be heavily invested in the 90s and 2000s, especially since the boutique label was mostly limited to Criterion. Different world now. For old silents, you have a boutique label like Flicker Alley putting out wonderful collections of Melies shorts. For 60s and 70s schlock, you've got Vinegar Syndrome. And everything in between. You can build up a huge collection and not touch the 90s and 2000s. This afternoon I spent pressing and canning apple juice. The total is six gallons and one quart canned, and one additional gallon diverted to try to brew into apple cider vinegar
I will take a stab at making at least mildly hard cider this year. I have bottles and a corker. And lots of apples left. Who wants apple juice? Posted by: Kindltot at August 03, 2026 08:39 PM (rbvCR) 96

Aug 3 I was in Madrid when Spain won the World Cup. Almost 2 million people celebrated in the streets. I saw 0 violence. 0 property damage. 0 rioting. Spain’s government later reported a total of 6 arrests, and no serious incidents. Almost 2 million people. Almost entirely peaceful. When a Parisian team won the Champions League in 2026, riots broke out and trashed the city. And it happened before that, in 2025. And there was violence before that, in 2018, when France won the World Cup. Guess when their celebrations were peaceful? In 1998 - before their immigration policy created an entire population of people who didn’t assimilate.
