Crow demands more feather-brushing.

Poor little dog wants to snuggle with the cat but the cat won't have it.

Escape horse.

Little dog is so happy with his new wheelchair.

Stubborn dog.

Stray dog finds a toy.

Dog and duck are partners in crime.

Excitable alpaca.

After careful negotiations, they agreed to play.

Capybara commando.

Timelapse of night skies and dawn.

This is just playing right into their narcissism.

Laser target practice.

Pleasure droid.

Does it have a button I can push to silence it?

I kinda think this must be fake but it looks pretty good: Mars' moon Phobos orbiting the red planet.

Maybe. Might be fake.

Phobos orbits very close to Mars and is very fast, well within the areostationary radius (how's that for a word?).

It thus rises in the west and sets in the east as seen on surface, and does that about twice every Martian day.

The guys at JPL (and the ESA) that operate the rovers and orbiters sync themselves with the Martian mean solar day, which is about 24 hours and 40 minutes long.

They've got watches and clocks synced to that and operate shifts on the Martian solar day cycle, which gets out of sync with the earth. They call a Martian day a Sol, and get cute with it, with terms like yestersol, tosol, and solorrow.

Our contractor has been doing that. We are living in the camper while renovations proceed. So far they have pulled out the offending kitchen, laundry room and bathroom, and framed up the breezeway and bedroom. Roofs are on, windows are mostly in. Plumbers and tinners were there this week, and did most of that work to rough-in. Furnace installed, new partitions framed.

Back when we were young and stupid, we did this kind of work ourselves. Now it's just easier to pay and be done.

Once our renovation is done, I'm putting in a cemetery for the remains of my various pets over the years. I have the ashes, and I've been hauling them around for years. Time to give them a place to rest with a nice view.
Posted by: tcn in AK at July 31, 2026 08:02 PM (l2EPa)

Our vet has a little memorial garden where they will put the ashes upon request. We always opt for that, and also for clay pawprints, which we put with photos on our library shelves. Finally, I have a little enclave in my flower garden where I place memorial stones. (I've been fighting with Mrs. Robbo about putting a small St. Francis statue there, too. She objects (not being Catholic and thinking it's a lot of boogy-boogy-boo), but some day I'll do so anyway without telling her and hope she doesn't notice.

It’s interesting how people acclimate. I grew up with hot and humid summers and it was just normal, didn’t even really think about it. But once I got a taste of the “but it’s a dry heat” climate even a little humidity sucks now.

The Government has decided to temporarily suspend the free movement regime provided for by Schengen in sea and air connections with Spain, reintroducing border controls.

This is an extraordinary measure, taken to protect national security and prevent possible repercussions for our nation. The measure will only be kept in place for as long as necessary,

I saw quite a bit of Aussie football during one of the baseball strikes decades ago. I eventually figured out the rules. I think it would go over well here, its like a combination of basket ball and field goal kicking. It just needs us to build a huge number of gigantic Cricket stadiums. They are far bigger than a gridiron, and very wide too.

Some friends of mine's old cat used to have a favorite sunny spot in the front yard, right up against the brick wall. When he went over the rainbow bridge, they made a little stone design on the wall that read "Teddy's Corner," with a little stone-lined tab into the lawn where they placed his ashes. They're about to move and they wonder how long Teddy's Corner will be preserved.

130 Firstly, we will implement measures accelerate "research and development" and "investment decisions."
Therefore, we will ... "decarbonized energy in general" and strengthen its "funding function" for "research and development of nuclear and fusion energy."

Secondly, in order to realize the "domestic introduction of SMR" project that is progressing overseas, we will "accelerate the development of our companies" and promote safety research, etc

Thirdly, in order to "strengthen the industrial base," we will support the "strengthening of manufacturing capabilities" of nuclear component companies

So far there is no conflict because Mars is the only other planet they have to worry about that. On the Moon, the mean solar day is one (synodic) month long, far too long for day/night operations as we're familiar with.
