Good Morning kids. With everything going on across the country and around the world today, and as you can see from the breadth and depth of the links this morning, there's a metric shit-ton of meshugas to deal with and unpack. Despite that this item just ticks me the hell off. There Are No Ag ‘Jobs Americans Won’t Do’ If They Earn A Living WageIt's not so much the meat of the essay itself which I agree with .. . Whenever Republicans talk about immigration enforcement, amnesty supporters chant the same tired line: What about picking crops? What about meat processing? Those are necessary jobs that Americans simply refuse to do. That argument was used to justify dozens of House Republicans’ latest mass amnesty effort. Their proposal would give illegal alien agriculture workers a pathway to legal status through the H-2A program, even though they have broken multiple laws by being in the United States illegally and getting a job without a work permit. Their employer has also violated the law by hiring these illegals.Indeed, so Psaki-Psircling back to that headline, it's this insane completely Commie Leftist garbage of a so-called "Living wage." What a person is paid is or at least in a sane world is merely a reflection of the value of the job or task performed as dictated by market forces such as the skills required to perform them and the availability or lack thereof of the people required to perform them in bringing a product or service to market at a price the public can afford and that an employer can afford to pay to have them performed to stay in business and still remain profitable. But as the author of this piece points out or at least hints at, is that it's the employers who have over the past several decades willingly employed legal and illegal aliens in order to keep their costs down and in doing so have done untold damage to the labor market and with it the societal dissolution that came with it as we are living through now. Beyond agriculture, whole industries, especially steel and automobile manufacturing and many others were off-shored deliberately so that corporate America can reap mass profits at the expense of the American worker and citizen, cheap mass-produced consumer goods notwithstanding. Forgetting the price tag for a moment, if wages across the board had parity with the cost-of-living in general would we really be paying that much more in real dollars if goods were produced here in America with American workers? Of course we still have to factor in the greed of the essentially Democrat-aligned labor unions as well as the mafia-like extortion of federal, state and local governments and their odious regulatory regimes that make everything that much more expensive. Yes, some sane and minimal degree of responsibility on the part of business is a necessary evil, but in the past that was the purview of the courts as well as enforced by a sense of moral responsibility of business owners not to kill or otherwise poison their neighbors and customers. Yes rounding up and deporting as many of the illegals as possible is to be applauded, but disincentivizing them from coming here in the first place begins with those who hire them in the first place. So this done forcefully and continually will have a salutary effect and is something we've been screaming about for years, so bravo to the President for this. Stiff fines and prison sentences will do the trick. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) acting Director Todd Lyons said in an interview Sunday that his agency will crack down on American companies hiring unauthorized workers. “Not only are we focused on those individuals that are, you know, working here illegally, we’re focused on these American companies that are actually exploiting these laborers,” Lyons said on CBS News’s “Face the Nation.” “These people that came here for a better life. You know, either, you know, forced labor, child trafficking, you know, a lot of these work site cases — just isn’t a victimless crime of someone here working illegally,” he added. “And that’s why we’re going there with these criminal warrants to focus on these American businesses that are trying to make an extra dollar on the backs of these people that came here for a better life.”Sadly we'll get just as much resistance from the GOP on this as we will from the Democrats, as is the gravamen of the aforementioned essay. Pro-amnesty Republicans are allowing the agriculture industry to shut out American workers in favor of foreign migrants.Have a great weekend,

Cloward and Piven believed poverty could be eliminated by replacing the existing system. Naturally, it had to be one they devised. Their strategy was to encourage every person legally eligible for welfare to rush down to the social services office and apply, overwhelming the system in hopes of triggering a fiscal and administrative crisis that would pressure America into accepting guaranteed national income.
Seems to me they missed the part that many people do NOT want the guaranteed national income. Just like the 100 million or more that do NOT want the min federal wages. They want (or need) more so they get the cert or degree. They come in early and stay late. They take that weekend shift. Cloward and Piven assume that the 30 million poor will always be at the bottom. 56% of the bottom quintile workers move out of that within 10 years. NYC is entirely too full of itself. Elon did an interview with the editor of The Economist yesterday that was very interesting and kind of highlights where we are today. For those of you who aren't familiar with it The Economist is a British magazine with typically liberal politics.
She went after him on all the issues we would expect, claiming he killed people with DOGE cuts to USAID, called him far right and said people hate him. Elon countered very calmly by saying he is not even on the right, he's a centrist, but people on the left like her have gone so far left they claim everyone who doesn't agree with them is far right. He told her he didn't DOGE didn't kill anyone and USAID was a political organization, all his team did was identify areas of waste and all decisions were made by the administration and aid services were still be administered by State as appropriate. He also told her she had no idea how many people hate her and the media. Kind of sums up where we are. The Overton Window moves both directions. That needs to be considered in looking at the political future. Posted by: JackStraw at July 24, 2026 08:23 AM (viF8m) 114

Liberty is perpetuum. It outlasts any single person. It’s part of the soul. From the Latin, libertatum, meaning civil or political freedom, condition of a free man; absence or restraint or permission.
That’s not the platform or marker of a political party. It’s part of our essence and who we are. That won’t be extinguished by anyone or any political ideal. God put that on us, and no person will take it away. MAGA simply encompasses that ideal, and that’s demonstrably true. It’s fairly clear to see almost all of its aims and goals are centered on liberty, and those who oppose it are not. Liberty has long outlasted the alternatives, and every so often we have to hoist the black flag to protect it- and we will. Posted by: Vengeance at July 24, 2026 08:33 AM (K+75H) 148

Currently it is 66 and sunny here at Stately Poppins Manor. I'm just cruising through the thread with a hot cup of Ty-Phoo tea, psyching myself up to get back to work on my novel. I had a missed opportunity yesterday. I was driving along MA Route 1 when I passed by a modified bicycle with the sign "Ride For Suicide Prevention" pulled up at the side of the road, with the rider resting on the grass. As soon as I blew past, I realized I should have turned around, but then thought that the fellow was riding to raise money, not as an invitation for every nickelfucker to stop and unload their misery on him. I'm going to have to see if the fellow has a website that I can donate to. Living wage is a stupid phrase, but it's just semantics. Illegal immigration is a wage suppression scheme. It's allowing these companies to dodge a number of expenses, both directly (minimum wage laws) and indirectly (employees beneath taxation threshold, or simply not paying them). They can shove off a number of other expenses their employees need on the taxpayer. These people are also provided healthcare by the taxpayers, and their housing is being subsidized.
And of course, the general condition of illegals does a lot of heavy lifting. Even absent those other advantages, these people are ventilating their low wages into a third world economy with a weak currency, and living ten to a unit in Section 8 slave kennels. The better way to state it is "jobs Americans won't do at artificially low wages a law-abiding American family can't live on, but one in Guatemala can, as long as everyone turns a blind eye to the whole scam." It's the same as every other thing America. Major institutions reaping huge dividends by screwing the subject classes at every turn. Cloward Piven and the cheap illegal labor problems go hand in hand. We can't have "open borders" AND incredibly "generous" social welfare programs, but that is what the cost has been for not just the ag markets (and meat packers), but also the housing builders, and other labor intensive industries.
Even the more educated class of programmers and such keep getting their cheap labor from India and other places, while they kick out Americans while forcing them to train their replacements ("you will not replace us" chants ring in my head). And yet so much of the wealthier half of America keep pouring chunks of their paychecks into the inflated stock markets, which keep soaring, apparently on "the greater fool theory". Greenspan himself (and Trump may have said this as well, iirc), that the government could/should "invest" in the stock (and bond) markets. So how to unwind that bubble, without shaking The Economy? idk, but we must start with a stoppage of the giving away of our country itself, to foreigners that hate us and call us racist, and are electing their own anti-American foreigners to congress. It is insane, but no one wants to dent all the 401Ks. Posted by: illiniwek at July 24, 2026 08:43 AM (vbXSk) 173

Queering the economy was a political act, too. In hindsight it is glaringly obvious, but I was too young to realize it. Truman era postwar economy had problems too. Big problems. Beef did a moonshot in price among other things.
But the 1970s was more pervasive. Oil quadruped in price in short order. While the dollar was severed from any tether. Floating currencies. It’s no coincidence in my mind that Beef, Eggs, Butter, Dairy, and the rest of it were suddenly declared “bad for you” and simultaneously replaced with margarine and less expensive expedient fats. The “Food Pyramid” eventually followed. Affordable was an issue then too, they wanted to reduce demand for real food, or at least provide an excuse for all those families slurping powdered milk and eating generic Pasta elbows. Calling what we are doing 'forever war' or 'quagmire' is fallacious.
We have lost 15 personnel. We (our military) lose that many on a natural. Iran is degraded to the extreme, their supply lines are cut, they are starving, they must rely on reserves and they are running out. This is a sea change of how conquest is accomplished. We will have peace and hemispherical independence. Patience. Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at July 24, 2026 09:04 AM (vC80E) 232

Serious question - what is the increased supermarket cost of my food if we don't use cheap illegal labor to pick them and instead pay someone an actual wage?
Alert of violation of the no-math rule: assume a bushel of apples is about 120 medium sized apples, and you can pick 12 bushels an hour (sloppy AI internet research tells me this is the case). That's 1440 apples per hour. If my current wage is $11/hour (again, sloppy AI research on low end of the wage), but an American won't do it for less than three times that (wild guess), the raw labor cost to pick my apple went from $.007 to $.023. In other words, in increased by less than three cents. I don't see any reason that any other downstream costs change (though I acknowledge if illegals are doing these they could). Is it really going to collapse the economy if we have to pay $0.36 more per dozen apples? Particularly when this means more Americans have jobs? I recognize different crops have different inputs, but is there any real study on what the actual impact to my grocery bill would be? With all the frivolous shit people spend money on, and existing government subsidies already in place, is it really doomsday? Posted by: DPICM at July 24, 2026 09:06 AM (zweKz) 239

I suspect that if we really clamped down on illegals working in agriculture a lot of the work would end up being automated rather than replaced by American labor.
It will evolve, regionally, and in phases. The Roma tomato came about because it was more mechanization friendly than previous varieties. How does the market accept and price a change in their crops? Another is the incorporation of Computer Vision and robotics which is becoming more integrated as resource availability changes. For example, water and fertilizer got to be so expensive that AI driven planting, weeding and watering became a viable option. If the jump becomes big enough, there could be a surge in green house and controlled environment agriculture where the full cycle can be managed under one roof—like how poultry has been until the Marxists push for free-range (and how we get millions of kill-offs due to feed stock contamination by overflying Canadian geese) Very dynamic, and influenced heavily by propaganda originating from our enemies who want us to fail. "“Negotiation” is only a fantasy choice now. (And that’s all it ever was)"
I disagree. Trump is dealing with the Iran problem that we've let fester for 50 years. FFS, Obama/ValJar wanted them to be a regional hegemon -- with nukes. The goal is to make Iran irrelevant and they soon will be. With no oil revenue they'll be lucky to keep the lights on at home. Everyone in the region is now allied against them. China will no longer support them. The IRGC's antics give Trump the cover to keep bombing them back to the stone age. They won't have the internal know-how and resources to rebuild. The AP and all their leftwing cohorts are still butthurt over the defunding of USAID.
The Associated Press @AP In impoverished Nepal, where a conservative culture leaves openly transgender people with few legal job options, the impact on aid workers’ lives was particularly crushing. Starving and scared, around 100 LGBTQ+ aid workers left jobless by the funding cuts have turned to sex work to survive, walking the streets alongside the very people they once fought so hard to help. https://tinyurl.com/2y5tf5jj Posted by: redridinghood at July 24, 2026 09:30 AM (NpAcC) 305
>>But it is NOTHING compared to the costs in welfare spending for the illegals, welfare spending for the displaced worker, and the crime the illegals bring with them.
We are seeing rent and other costs including food coming down in areas all across the country. It's amazing how costs react when demand is reduced by removing millions of illegals from the country. Some should do a study on supply and demand. It might be a thing. Posted by: JackStraw at July 24, 2026 09:30 AM (viF8m) 306

289 Feel good story if the day. Snotty jerk Heisman runner-up Diego Pavia , an undrafted free agent , was released by the Baltimore Ravens. Couldn't have happened to s bigger ahole
Posted by: Smell the Glove at July 24, 2026 09:26 AM (NemxU) The Ravens gave him a "clean slate", telling him what he does on the field, and the work he puts in will speak for him. Speaks volumes to his (lack of) character. Only Heisman runner-up to not be drafted. He could have had the world by the balls and blew his chances. What a waste of God given talent. Note, that they never tell you what the money is going for. The do have an earworm jingle that sounds sketchy—trading cars for children, or giving children semi-functioning cars. The name doesn't have any correlation to the entity's purpose. Posted by: Community Notes at July 24, 2026 09:34 AM (NzX/y) 311

And he was one of the best we'd seen, when he was on, this year, even among single A teams who could have 17 year olds. But there's more talent in the pipeline, so no time to rest. You pick apples on piecerate, not hourly. They pay you by the bin, which is why they pick them green now. Pickers don't care if they get bruised.
You don't get it. They don't want Americans doing this for decent money. They want people that are a little desperate and won't cause labor issues. Posted by: Notsothoreau at July 24, 2026 09:35 AM (bkuEU) 315
"Illegal alien INVADERS."
Mike Flynn (not the general) used to make a point of calling them "foreign nationals". They are not "humans lost at sea, adrift, and from nowhere", they are citizens of another country, even if they tossed their papers in the Rio Grande. Posted by: illiniwek at July 24, 2026 09:35 AM (vbXSk) 316
Only way American will do those jobs is to get rid of welfare. Because nobody will pick apples in the hot sun for even $30/hr when welfare pays $25 for doing nothing.

Cost shifting. Billions, if not trillions.
Welfare spending probably juices grocery prices by maybe ten per cent or more. Corn chips are peasant food, literally field corn, oil and salt there’s no reason for them to cost $7 or $8 a bag. They pay more for the bag, maybe. Maybe $1 or two. Transportation costs factor. But they can get it, because the Eagle shits once a month. Labor is just one cost of many involved in any industry, including of course agriculture. I’d really like to know the honest tally of what percentage of the total costs of production, to get (for example) that apple from a seed to the supermarket, is the actual manual labor. I suspect it’s a small percentage. But I’ve yet to see an honest tally of that. I wonder why?

I don't want to hate on farmers too much as they aren't the ones making most of the money on food. The middleman gets that. But you have a perishable crop and you really don't want workers walking off the job. I worked with a family of white pickers that would do that, if they didn't likehow they were treated. Illegals can't do that as easily.
