Socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s far-left slate of Big Apple congressional hopefuls prevailed in Tuesday’s Democratic primary — with firebrand Darializa Avila Chevalier projected to pull off an AOC-style upset.Former city Comptroller Brad Lander and state Assemblywoman Claire Valdez were quickly projected by the Associated Press and NY1 to win over their establishment Democrat opponents. Avila Chevalier held a razor-thin 49.3% to 46% lead over Rep. Adriano Espaillat with 86% of votes counted late Tuesday, leading the five-term incumbent to concede. The projected win by Avila Chevalier and the congressional race victories — coupled with a likely clean sweep of Democratic Socialists of America candidates in state races — signaled Mamdani could expand his socialist wave beyond New York City, to Washington, DC. . . The candidates hold a slew of far-left views that were once fringe within the Democrat Party.. . ...Valdez and Avila Chevalier both campaigned on their staunch opposition to Israel — labeling the Jewish state’s actions in Gaza a genocide — and on pushing their pro-Palestinian values. Like Mamdani, the pair called for a full divestment of Israel and cutting off of any sales of US arms to its ally in the Middle East. Valdez also echoed the Mamdani admin’s radical housing platform, pushing for the seizure of property from bad landlords. All three also want to abolish ICE and Avila Chevalier, a community organizer and doctoral candidate, has even said she doesn’t believe foreign criminals should be deported. One can laugh at New York and smugly claim, and not unjustly so, that they brought this on themselves. while New York at least for the last 50 years or so has for sure been liberal, the David Dinkins years notwithstanding, it has not been insane. A combination of cultural societal and political conditions have converged to create a perfect storm of insanity that has utterly eradicated the legacy and miracle of the Rudy Giuliani years. And so while one can jeer at New York, this madness can and likely will spread. On Tuesday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Source,” CNN Senior Political Commentator Van Jones reacted to Brad Lander’s primary win over Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) by saying that “The Mamdani phenomenon is not a one guy thing. The Democratic Socialists are an insurgency in this party.” And “This is a serious movement inside the Democratic Party. The left is on the march.”You know who else was "on the march?!" All Jones needs is an Austrian inflection with a soupçon, or mit einem bisschen of Ugandan/Muslim jive for extra texture! For those unaware or as a refresher, Van Jones is a full-on Anti-American anti-Western freak as you can see from his rap sheet here at Discover the Networks. Jones’ new approach was modeled on the tactics outlined by the famed radical organizer Saul Alinsky, who stressed the need for revolutionaries to mask the extremism of their objectives and to present themselves as moderates until they could gain some control over the machinery of political power. Jones still considered himself a revolutionary, but a more effective one thanks to his revised tactics. And thus we had the candidacy and now the actions/policies of Abigail Spanberger among others. So no Van Jones was not lamenting the hard left lurch as illustrated by Mamdani and last night's results in NYC. Far from it, his nipples were bursting with orgasmic glee. But, is this filthy bastard right and my hopes that the coming of President Trump heralded a sea change in our culture merely a speed bump on America's road to hell? Yes, James Talarico I assume has no shot at all, ditto all the others like him scattered around the sane areas of the country, or am I whistling past the graveyard? By the end of this year, there could be 10 socialist mayors in the U.S. That’s the most since the 1910s, when socialism was the shiny new object embraced by educated elites. Yes, way too busy voting to give money to Ukraine to pass the SAVE Act. Have a good day,

Walmart is signing a long-term contract to buy nuclear power for the first time ever, a promising sign that the industry’s future is supported by more than just the AI data center boom.
The retail giant agreed on Tuesday to buy power from a nuclear plant in Illinois owned by Constellation Energy for its operations in the area, including its stores and a high-tech warehouse in Illinois that stores and sorts perishable food. Walmart will buy 176 megawatts of power from the plant over a 15-year period, or enough power to serve around 150,000 homes. Posted by: SMOD at June 24, 2026 07:46 AM (O7XEN) 14

I’m a little more hopeful about the Iran situation today; mainly because I read an article (in the New Republic of all places.. a lefty rag) that debunked the notion that the US is gonna give Iran $300B… not true. Makes me feel better because that notion I did not like at all and if it’s debunked by the Trump-hate New Republic I think I can believe it.
Also that poll cited in the MOU: 32% for, 24% against, 44% unsure (where are the other 4%??… I’m bad at math but that adds to 96%)…. I’m thinking a healthy percentage of the 24% against are folks like me who think it’s potentially too accommodating so they’re on our side… all in all, good news. Also good news if Iran insists they’re not agreeing to nuke inspections because it opens the way to my favorite Beach Boys tune: bomb bomb Iran Posted by: LinusVanPelt at June 24, 2026 07:58 AM (YetvJ) 37

Republicans ignore these developments at their own peril, since they can’t fight something – even if that something is as toxic as socialism – with nothing. And dismissing it as “junk food of modern American politics,” as GOP strategist Luke Ball told Fox News recently, isn’t going to cut it.
What we need to do is follow people like AtC who just doesn't vote for Republicans that just aren't perfect enough and give Democrats even more opportunity to put their filth in positions of power to destroy this country one community at a time. It's crazy enough it just might work. Posted by: Sponge - F*ck Cancer at June 24, 2026 08:07 AM (2YhKe) 58
Just keep in mind, no one was predicting SCOTUS would end Roe.
The consensus on the right was that they might trim around the edges but leave it largely intact. I don't think anyone was predicting they would go as far as they did. But they're getting lots of clicks now predicting SCOTUS will uphold birthright citizenship for illegals. The theme of this Thomas Court (as Roberts abdicated after TX v. PA) is "strict interpretation of the law" No emanations or penumbras. No "super precedent" binds us. Rule on the legality, not the preferences for policy. There is no hesitation to say prior courts and precedent got it flat wrong. Chicago, NYC, Seattle - businesses are fleeing, high income residents are fleeing, crime is soaring, and each one of them is now locked into the “doom loop” that guarantees failure and bankruptcy in the not too distant future. All that is is using Jesus for their own ends. He was not radical, He was and is the enduring fulfillment of God's holy promise. I believe we need to rethink our divorce policy. Countries have changed borders throughout history. We are becoming balkanized and we need to figure out a hopefully peaceful way out of this.
In the alternative, I might just become a huge fan of a great big exit tax out of places like NYC so they are unable to come like locusts to places that are still semi normal. Maybe even a great big entrance tax as well, Posted by: Piper at June 24, 2026 08:35 AM (e8mjv) Balkanized indeed. But also still loosely aligned right/left. Increasingly, the left-leaning factions are making it clear they do not seek a peaceful solution. The right-leaning factions for the most part would be fine with a clean break. Texas has 20% (R) that always vote (D).
They show up to vote for the (R) that (R) does not want in the Primaries so they get counted as (R). They are not and never will be. 20% of (R) voted for Kammie. The Left will never allow a divorce or a split.
Let's say we divide it all and become two countries, Left and Right. That means the sane people are now living next to an Iran/Mexico North Korea/Palestine nuclear power hybrid. They would NEVER let the Right country exist in peace. And even if they did they would subvert it within 25 years through "the system", and the Right is right back where it started. Obama was the vanguard and he didn't get there on his soaring oratory. He was the Soros anointed candidate over Hillary. And Soros has long been a CIA asset. Nothing illustrates the state of Texas politics right now that Abbott’s race for a fourth term in office. You could ask 20 average people on the street which Democrat is running against him, and barely one in twenty could even tell you the name.
Abbott’s wins are 62 - 38 on the high side, 57 - 43 on the low side. He’s never been outside of that range, and he won’t be outside of it this time. But every time news outlets run the stories saying “polls show it’s a single digit race now! Is Abbott in trouble? “. Every single time. Polls everywhere are even worse than reading chicken entrails, but in Texas they’ve become laughably bad. Posted by: Tom Servo at June 24, 2026 08:54 AM (kmEMr) 200

They have turned to *outward in your face* communism as opposed to hiding and sliming it in the way they always did, to compete with Trump's message, which totally overwhelmed the old guard of both parties.
So no of course the commie idiots haven't "turned" to communism as a response to Trump - but bringing it "out and proud" as a "new face of the party" was definitely a response. And that can be mistaken for some kind of ideological turn. They didn't have to do this stuff to compete with the Jeb's of the world. I would be worried about the socialist mayors IF I thought they were going to be successful - but look at the cities that have done so. Chicago, NYC, Seattle - businesses are fleeing, high income residents are fleeing, crime is soaring, and each one of them is now locked into the “doom loop” that guarantees failure and bankruptcy in the not too distant future. And they’ll never come back in any real way; like Detroit, they’ll just be fading names in our memory of places that once meant something.

To stop visa overstays, we need to have CBP checking passports, coming AND going. In the ROK, Japan, Schengen Zone, and Australia, they look at your passport when leaving the country just for that purpose.

Ok, so what has the price been the last 3 weeks? Under $100? Gas prices have *definitely* been higher than the last several times it was that high. I'd bet though that the gas prices are a result of Commiefornia forcing refineries to close. Posted by: GMan at June 24, 2026 09:22 AM (DbRdT) 306

The BEST Italian Beef is Portillo's.
Yep. Was visiting family near Chicago last weekend and on those trips we ALWAYS hit Portillo's at least once. ===== Whenever Old Cat (18 1/2 yo!) goes on a food strike, one of the kids gets him his own Italian Beef (and I can whine expertly so I get my own as well). How that old beastie can eat an entire one is one of those miracles and, here's the kicker, he doesn't throw any of it up. Astonishing. Posted by: mustbequantum at June 24, 2026 09:22 AM (Ofeq1) 308

Balkanized indeed. But also still loosely aligned right/left. Increasingly, the left-leaning factions are making it clear they do not seek a peaceful solution. The right-leaning factions for the most part would be fine with a clean break. Go our separate ways and leave each other alone. But the left-leaning factions want a submit or die solution. A peaceful solution seems increasingly untenable.

Gemini, why do gas prices take long to come down when oil price falls?
Replacement Cost Pricing: Gas station operators must price their current fuel based on what it will cost to refill their underground tanks. If wholesale crude prices spike, stations instantly raise pump prices to avoid selling at a loss. Inventory Lag: Stations must sell through the supply of more expensive fuel they already purchased before they can offer the cheaper, recently refined fuel to consumers.Consumer Shopping Behavior: When gas prices are high, drivers actively search for cheaper stations, forcing retailers to fiercely compete and match lower prices. When prices drop, drivers become less motivated to search for deals, giving stations less pressure to lower their prices quickly. Posted by: Heroq at June 24, 2026 09:25 AM (rjPWf) 316

Fuel stations pass along future costs of replenishing their tanks. Think of it as a short period futures trade where pessimism and risk aversion trend towards higher prices. Posted by: Community Notes at June 24, 2026 09:25 AM (BvPIe) 318
