The protagonist explained that either his mental issues could be resolved or they could not. If they were resolved, how could he live knowing what he'd done? If they were not, what if he escaped - or was freed - and killed again?

You don't lose interest in, say, the Cincinnati Reds just because the Big Red Machine no longer exists as it was. You continue to support whatever players are on the team today. That’s what I was thinking - a data center can cover half a square mile and only need a dozen or so maintenance men to actually work there. It’s the wave of the future - vast industry with no actual people inside.

I’m not yet to the point where I understand the alarm over AI and data centers. In fact, my attitude is moving in the opposite direction. I’m using AI and work and it is remarkable. I feed it a problem statement and in 60 seconds or less it gives me a script for a simulation I can execute to get the answer. Stuff that used to take me weeks I can do in less than an hour…. And you can tell it to make adjustments and alter the model. It’s like having your very own PhD student lackey telling him what to do all day long. I think it’s amazing

Data Centers that are being built in the Reno/Sparks Nevada are being opposed by the right and left. Water availability(of course build all the houses you want, no f’ing problem), and the footprint on our pristine environment(unless it’s a large housing development, no f’ing problem). I was offered a handsome sum to work for two companies ACCO and United Mechanical up in the Reno/Sparks area. Thinking about doing it. I’m union but have been a lifelong conservative. I have no problem building these Data Centers. I’m everyone’s worst nightmare I guess.

My husband remarks we hear nothing with those huge warehouse buildings dotting all along the edges of town. However things go nuts if it’s a data center. I have a question, there are smaller nuclear plants, are we not able to have smaller data centers with a power plant adjoining it? 240 @224 Hyacinth-I’ve been saying the same thing in comment sections pertaining to the Data Centers in Reno. Nobody pitched a fit about all the massive warehousing/industrial parks on the outskirts of town.

We were just in Reno and amazing all the is being built there. We drove around Reno/Sparks. Interesting area.
I recall the duck thing started around covid with an owner had an issue (Canadian in us or vice versa ) and the duck was a way to support jeep people or say like your jeep. Stuffed animals lining the back window > ducks on the dash

The left simply does not care, because there have been 'wins.'
(Biden/Harris) The Emmett Till Antilynching Act, signed into law March '22. It enables federal prosecutors to see penalties of up to 30 years in prison for individuals who conspire to commit a hate crime resulting in death or serious bodily injury.
BLM changed policing. It pushed budgetary reallocations in major cities, i.e., LA, NYC, Philly, Portland, Seattle, etc. (now more screwed up than ever). Dozens of Confederate monuments, symbols and more across the South were removed. Mississippi changed its state flag. Cities throughout the country removed 'offensive' symbols and statues & replaced them with murals and other works deemed inoffensive. School districts phased out zero-tolerance suspension frameworks in favor of restorative justice, peace circles. It has been claimed that counties with active protests saw 1+ percentage point increase in Democratic turnout, directly impacting the 2020 presidential election. It expanded the welfare state.

K-12 education changed for the very average, or less, public schools. Extreme changes in higher education. The proliferation of smaller non-profits.
It, along with labor and healthcare, has been an integral part of leaning into socialism.
We wouldn't be this far into political division and partisan hostility without the movement and its very intentional backers who knew enough of US history to recycle ideas of the '60s.
