Technically true but Europe has much bigger population. And their methodology is to blame a lot of deaths on heat, even if it’s a stretch (like we did for Covid deaths).

That being said, they definitely have a problem with heat-related deaths. They are stupid and stubborn and refuse to accept that Americans have a much better idea: air conditioning.

And the design precedes most of the others that people admire with the exception of ancient flags of Wales, Scotland, and dunno about the Union Jack.

153 I generally like Monet paintings, especially his pastels. At first look this one didn't do much for me. It seemed nice enough but static despite the suggestion of a breeze.

HOWEVER, as I looked at it more its appeal grew. The peace of the scene and memories of warm summer days by the ocean came to mind. The scent of flowers in summer bloom combined with the salt tang in the air, the breeze carrying the aromas and bringing a bit of comfort from the bright sunlight, Monet captured it all in this rather simple painting. Then the effective use of perspective with the foreground giving way to the ships on a distant horizon became apparent. It doesn't hit all at once but grows on the viewer.

I probably wouldn't hang this one but it will remain in my memory for a long time.

Garden at Sainte-Adresse
Claude Monet French
1867
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 818

Monet spent the summer of 1867 with his family at Sainte-Adresse, a seaside resort near Le Havre. It was there that he painted this buoyant, sunlit scene of contemporary leisure, enlisting his father (shown seated in a panama hat) and other relatives as models. By adopting an elevated viewpoint and painting the terrace, sea, and sky as three distinct bands of high-keyed color, Monet emphasized the flat surface of the canvas. His approach—daring for its time—reflects his admiration for Japanese prints. Twelve years after it was made, Monet exhibited the picture at the fourth Impressionist exhibition of 1879 as Jardin à Sainte-Adresse.

2020 was...a lie.

Collins won 2020 by 8 (Graham won SC by 9 that year, by the way). Collins was probably going to win ME again by like 20 (she won 2014 by about 40). Platner could make that 30.

And then Platner will run for governor in 2030.

193 Platner's take on economics is telling, and for two reasons:

1) Bezos being rich doesn't impact someone being poor. If Bezos had never been born, someone else would have invented something like Amazon and this woman would be likely marginally poorer.

2) People get paid based on the value they generate for others. If the woman isn't being paid much she likely isn't generating a lot of value - imagine for example she's doing house cleaning. Hard work certainly, but most people won't, and really can't, pay a large wage for the job.

And this leads to two real problems Platner and his ilk won't address. First, the problem with people like Bezos is they have outsized political influence and our government is so damn big that is really meaningful.

And the second issue is that the government has exploded cost of living through Bidenflation so you need a larger income to make ends meet.

The solution to both problems is cut government DRAMATICALLY. Get federal spending below $1T and people's lives improve dramatically.

The perfection in how the afternoon summer light to the southwest, say 3pm ish is captured is pretty sexy.

Then there is the contrasting visual lines of the wind, foreground and background, moving left to right, while the converging perspective of the patio moves into the frame - there is a wry pent up energy in that.

Then there are the colors. Geezh, boosh, it is riot in oil paint.

And lastly, the scene has a certain elegance and intimacy that speaks of life being lived well.

Really great stuff.

He said take a pizza place where one person runs it with 10 employees. Makes a profit. Nobody would say that’s immoral. That’s the American spirit of small business.

Then the owner opens a second store and employs 20 people. Then a third and 4th and eventually 1000 stores employing 10.000 people. And the owner becomes a billionaire.

So why is running one store OK but running 1000 stores is somehow immoral?

Loren and her husband, Carlo Ponti, happened to be vacationing in Switzerland, near Hepburn's home. When Hepburn found out, she invited the two over for dinner.

As Loren told it, when they arrived, they all chatted for a bit, then sat down to eat. . . a simple salad with a few crudites. Once that was polished off, Loren and Ponti expected dinner to be served, but Hepburn simply pushed her empty plate away and asked if the two had enjoyed their meal.

Loren said she had, adding that there had been so much, she was absolutely stuffed. They made their goodbyes and went back to their house, where Loren whipped up a huge pot of spaghetti.

20 years ago, Democrats thought Hispanics would be another black bloc.

But, Hispanics tend to think of themselves as white like Italians do. Italians weren't considered white for a long time, but now they just...are.

Combine that with the black bloc getting more powerful within the Democrat party, forcing their way to the top of the intersectionality stack and jealously defending it, most of which is driven by anti-white hatred, and you've got a recipe which amounts to, "Hispanics, you're dark like us. Now, get in line behind your masters the Blacks. You'd better never turn white, by the way."

As half of them consider themselves white anyway without that much assimilation.

Graham Platner: There is no metric of hard work that justifies a billionaire when people in Eastern Maine work three jobs just to put food on the table”
Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks

Aha. Section 8 availability/affordable housing, the new hue and cry of progressives. (One of their platform pieces along with living wages and universal healthcare.)

Reportedly, local housing authorities in Maine have 'historically' been forced to pause issuing vouchers due to sudden federal funding depletions and rising localized rental costs.

But if a voucher is issued, the recipient is usually given a strict period of time to find a housing unit, but - they say - many landlords openly refuse Section 8 applicants.

Also, because Section 8 eligibility is strictly tied to area median income caps working, income from three jobs likely pushes that worker's gross earnings enough over the limit to disqualify s(he) from assistance. And, at that point, some non-profits are likely cut out of being involved in local relief options, housing assistance, energy assistance, etc.

Billions to Ukraine is not their problem. MAGA v. civil society is.

Animal Farm was independently financed by Andy Serkis through minor investors. Angel Studios bought the distribution rights after the film was finished and every major distributor had passed.

Serkis is also in Young Washington in a supporting role, and I suspect it was partly a professional courtesy (and possibly part of his hiring on Young Washington) to buy the distribution rights to his film for dirt cheap, give it a perfunctory theatrical release, pocket the change they get from it, and get to use the one "movie star" in the movie in ads.

I think the jury determines the sentence, and I bet several of them will hesitate to give a teen life in prison. Might not agree, but this killing was much less heinous than many murders, other crimes (like rape, theft) weren't also involved, and I don't think he had much of a prior record, so they may want to give him a lengthy (40 year?) sentence, and hope he can be "rehabilitated."

Leftist actors don't mind at all taking jobs in small, right-leaning entertainment because they get paid and none of the people they know even realize they're in it. Graham is publicly conservative leaning and has been for years, but Andy Serkis is also in the film, and he's an outright communist.

I don't believe I have ever heard of someone stabbing horses.

You can watch the movie, "Equus".

If you'd like to see that scenario play out in a psychosexual context.

He was fubar when he said "touch me and see what happens."

Murder. Plain and simple.

Ok . But "communist trannie in love with King George" from prior poster sounds like a bit of a stretch😉

I believe that guy's intent was to make people laugh.

But, I could be mistaken.

384 Having defense witnesses admit to the prosecution's case certainly is inadequate defense.

Doesn't amount to the degree of legal malpractice needed. Karmelo is likely going away for murder and there is little Democrat race mongers can do about it.

Inadequate defense doesn't work when the defendant admits to police that he did it, ran away from the confrontation and ditched the knife, and multiple witnesses destroyed the critical evidence needed to substantiate a self defense claim.

Once the claim of self defense was made, essentially the trial pivoted from whether Karmelo did it to which he admitted, but whether his actions were reasonable using the totality of circumstances. And from the evidence, objectively Karmelo's defense did not show he was in fear of serious harm or death from the others, was carrying a weapon illegally on school grounds, started the confrontation, and refused to back down.

Disrespect is not grounds to stab someone in the heart period. The code of the hoodrat does not apply in civilized law and society.

386 60 Minutes (yeah) episode back in '88 about this. At the end of the segment, this sad little black boy, about 12 or so, said he wished his parents had named him (something like) Bill or some regular name.

I used to do collections, and I have long said that you either need to name your child a boring, common name (and use a nickname if you must be exciting and affirmational) or teach your children to pay all their debts and monthly payments on time and in full.
