I was going to dismiss this as one of those paintings where the style, in this case Pointilism, is more important than the scene. Admittedly, the technique is amazing. Being able to apply small dabs of paint of varied colors to create a coherent image astounds me.
Then I looked at the girl. CBD nailed it. She is leaning back on the wall while her uncle fiddles with the art stuff. She's not sulking, just bored and probably wishing she could go out and play instead of hanging around in a 'fancy' dress. Her eyes, directly staring at the viewer, say 'are we done yet?'. Rysselberghe may be showing a sense of humor by using this pose instead of a more formal and stuffy pose. Posted by: JTB at June 10, 2026 09:54 AM (yTvNw) 61

Looking at his Wiki page and other sites with examples of his paintings, I noticed something. van Rysselberghe manages to give a feel of realism, especially for the people, despite the abstract technique of his painting. The skin tones and poses seem natural, the facial expressions are detailed, the objects in the scene look 'right'. Even when he uses rather exaggerated colors, the realistic effect remains. It's an interesting combination.

Totally off-topic: "Whalefall" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67ho3OxCmmM This upcoming movie could be good, possibly. They definitely nailed the trailer. Buuuuuut, the book was kind of a pile O'Poo. Great high concept with a, maybe, 50 page story. The rest of the time was filled out with..."I hate my Daddy." Why didn't Daddy just love me? Why was he so hard on me? And finally, "Oh, well maybe he did kinda love me, the hard stuff helped me survive." Same problem in the movie...maybe a 30 or so minute story. Hopefully, they can make the "outside the whale" parts better. At best I see this as a Rocky/Noh mash-up. Still..great trailer. Will get butts in seats. Talk about vague when explaining it away: “But Platner has weathered a series of scandals, including the most recent recently where three different women accused him of being toxic and unsettling during their relationships. Now, NBC News has not been able to verify The New York Times reporting on this story, but Platner has said that the accusations are politically motivated and in some cases, not true. Now, Platner also acknowledging that he was forced to cover up a tattoo that some say resembles a Nazi symbol. OK, I need a boob joke to calm down.
As the broadcast cut to Cardi’s performance, Ernie Johnson joked that the Knicks had been “competing with Cardi B here.” The “WAP” singer was struggling to keep from spilling out of her outfit. [Charles] Barkley couldn’t help but notice. Without missing a beat, Chuck leaned in and delivered the line that’s now all over the internet: “We lost,” he said. “I don’t know if those B’s. They might be Cardi D’s.” Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks, Fat, Dumb, and Happy at June 10, 2026 11:05 AM (ndZc7) 219
