The WEF has been a little different this year

wef d r.jpg

DataRepublican (small r) at WEF

We have more challenging weather here in the USA than they seem to have in Davos this year, but I was surprised to see reports from DataRepublican as she is in the process of releasing a book. The recent reports of her deafness are confirmed by "X" posts by her long-time interpreter in Davos, as well as a few reports from her Mom. She is even more impressive than I had thought she was.

From her pinned "X" post article: The World Economic Forum Doesn’t Think It Rules the World. That’s the Problem.

When it comes to the World Economic Forum (WEF), there are two caricatures of the attendees – or “weffers” they like to call themselves.

In one version, they are mustache-twirling elites huddled in smoke-filled rooms, plotting a one-world government, mass surveillance, and “you will eat ze bugs!”

In the other, they are cast as saviors: the most powerful people on the planet convening in good faith to solve humanity’s biggest problems.
This week, @DataInterpretr and I spent quality time with the attendees. We took a different approach than most journalists – we did not ambush them with gotcha questions. Instead, we simply sat at tables, started conversations with staffers and speakers, and asked questions – lots of them.
What we got was neither caricature, but something much darker – a first-hand perspective of how tyranny is imposed from a ruling class that will swear up and down that they are not part of any ruling class–and that it controls nothing.

How can that be?

It is undeniably true that the WEF has been a source of coercive power. The clearest example came during COVID, when Klaus Schwab, working alongside the Big Four accounting firms, used the crisis to roll out ESG metrics. These frameworks stripped influence from ordinary stakeholders and concentrated it in the hands of activists and technocrats, while redirecting corporate capital toward left-wing causes.

To understand how that dynamic works, we must enter the mind of a weffer.
First, nearly all of them are either extremely wealthy or employed by people who are. Hotels cost $25,000 a night. Gucci is the default for handbags. Coats fall to the floor, trimmed with mink. And despite the sustainability rhetoric, the menus advertise meat proudly, with few vegetarian options in sight.

They do not understand that they are perceived as hypocrites. They are aware that some people see them as evil, controlling overlords… and they laugh at the idea, because in their own minds it is absurd.

Yet in another sense, it is true.

Alex Soros became an object of ridicule after his WEF remarks:

So, um, you know, so, um, you know… but when I see this, you know, when I look at this, um, you know, um, you know, uh, more globally regarding, regarding, you know, regarding democracy, I also say to myself, “When was this great time that everybody got along so well, and, you know, things were going so, so great?” I mean, I think, you know, um, uh, um, you know, the, um, you know, I think that we really have to be careful here in, you know, in this nostalgia, uh, for a time, uh, you know, for a time past, because a lot of the reactions we’re seeing in society are actually reactions to positive, uh, to positive things like, i- you know, like equality, uh, for women, um, you know, uh, and, um, uh, you know, and greater diversity.

For all that word salad, the key to remember is: Alex is representative.

They all speak this way. Every panel, every “dialogue,” follows the same pattern. Few people are trying to land a clear argument or persuade an audience. They speak to signal belonging, to demonstrate fluency in a shared language, and to impress one another.

The rest of this piece focuses on patterns of self-perception and thinking among attendees at the WEF. And attempts to zero in on some concrete positions from those attendees. It is fascinating and scary to think that so many of our "thought leaders" engage in so little thought.

The Death of Globalization?

Matt Taibbi is not a conservative. Bearing that in mind, he has some interesting thoughts about Davos:

Forget Trump and Greenland. Howard Lutnick Gave the Davos Speech that Mattered

The death of globalization is the real headline from the international self-indulgence festival at Davos

After Donald Trump spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos this week, the obligatory headline term was humiliation. “Lonely Trump Humiliated as Major Allies Refuse to Be Bullied,” was one of two Daily Beast stories on the theme, the other being “Trump, 79, Croaks Through ‘Peace’ Grift Speech After 48 Hours of Ritual Humiliation,” under the tag BORED OF PEACE. Jen Psaki on MSNOW chortled over his “humiliating ramble,” while Chris Hayes declared him “isolated and humiliated.”

Coverage of Trump long ago devolved into an homage to Pee Wee’s Playhouse, when comic Paul Reubens would get a secret word from Conky the robot in each show. After, audiences would have to shout in unison at every mention of it. I remember being in a room of stoned teenagers shouting “PLACE!” at the TV in 1986.

See hyperlinks and video at the link. Heh.

Trump news cycles are the same, only anchors shout TREASON! or FELON! or DICTATOR! His address on Greenland, NATO, and Emmanuel Macron’s sunglasses was blasted for a hundred reasons, many legitimate, but the real drama came from a non-Trump speech. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick ripped his European hosts by declaring “Globalization has failed”:

Globalization has failed the West and the United States of America. It’s a failed policy. It is what the WEF has stood for, which is export offshore, far-shore, find the cheapest labor in the world and the world is a better place for it. The fact is, it has left America behind. It has left the American worker behind. And what we are here to say is that America First is a different model—one that we encourage other countries to consider—which is that our workers come first. We can have policies that impact our workers.

Video and more at the link, whether you agree with it or not. Taibbi notes that the Europeans had warning that this speech was coming, even at the end of the Biden Administration.

* * * * *

This post concerns NATO, but DataRepublican mentions that Scott Bessent also talked about Japan as a possible Black Swan. And Japanese speakers don't seem too keen on becoming a "Nation of Immigrants".

Weekend

The Week In Pictures: Ice Ice Baby Edition

Minnesota can’t seem to get out of the news. Once a placid backwater, the state has now become synonymous with bats**t crazy. ICE came to town, and it brought left-wingers, both native Minnesotans and paid professionals, out in force. Things went from bad to worse, and a leftist mob invaded a church on Sunday morning, disrupting services. The mob was led by, among others, former CNN talking head Don Lemon. The Department of Justice, outraged, is pursuing criminal charges against some of the ringleaders.

Ice came to town in a more literal way, too: the high temperature today was -11, the low -22. The far left–i.e., everyone from the DFL Party to the Communist Party USA–declared today “ICE out” in Minneapolis, encouraging students to play hooky and businesses to close. It was, in any event, too cold to protest. I guess we can all be grateful that ICE didn’t come to Minnesota in July.

31 “Globalism has failed!”

Whether or not someone believes that, tells me to some extent what their premises are with respect to “globalization”.

You have to get it in your head the “elites” have been working towards the end of representative government or sovereign nations, consent of the governed, and self-determination for at least a hundred years.

Depending on what you believe their actual versus stated objectives are, globalism has been wildly successful. One might say similar things about our domestic organizations like the F.B.I, or the C.I.A., if they sometimes don’t make any sense, maybe you aren’t paying attention close enough.

There have been significant developments in the last 5 to 7 years on social, environment and technology front that could help raise "My Carbon" initiatives for shaping the future towards smart and sustainable cities.

COVID-19 was the test of social responsibility - A huge number of unimaginable restrictions for public health were adopted by billions of citizens across the world. There were numerous examples globally of maintaining social distancing, wearing masks, mass vaccinations and acceptance of contact-tracing applications for public health, which demonstrated the core individual social responsibility.

58 COVID-19 was the test of social responsibility - A huge number of unimaginable restrictions for public health were adopted by billions of citizens across the world.

The learned lesson was that people are lizard brained. If you talk about "social responsibility" to them, it must be associated with death - as in: You Are Going To Die.

The "problem" of Climate Change is that death was always ten or more years away, and came in a myriad of vague forms like coastal flooding, hurricanes and famine/drought. Covid was You are going to die Right Now.

Clearly, they didn't learn from the Ten Plagues of Egypt, because nine of them were inconveniences at scale, the one that mattered was Death Right Now.

Instead of Dead Right Now, their remedy became Death Tomorrow from heart attacks, turbo cancers and dementia.

God forbid you get involved with immigration enforcement!!!! They’d rather have ms13 running drugs in the city than work with ICE.this is in Montana mind you not California or Illinois.

Shows that red or blue state doesn’t mean much. Any city, even in deep red states over a certain population will be far left.

I believe that this is a mischaracterization of the issue.

Only the feds may enforce immigration policy. That's the court decision and unless Congress makes law stating otherwise, that's what will remain.

Also, the feds may not require states to assist unless they pay them to do so. That's the court decision and unless Congress makes law stating otherwise, that's what will remain.

States MAY choose to assist, as Texas does, or they may choose to ignore, as Minnesota does. I don't know that there has been a case about cities/states which explicitly act against federal immigration policy. Trump has tried to deal with by withholding funds but, of course, the judges are treasonous.

Being bad on tv doesn't make you stupid any more than being comfortable on tv makes you smart. The tragedy is the stroke/medical incident his wife suffered. She was supposed to be sitting in that seat and she was simply better than him at that public facing stuff.

As for the coach. That team showed up flat for the home opener, a nationally televised game. They failed to show up twice against the Pats. They also like to give up 250 yds rushing a few times per year. Now add in bad gameday management which has barely improved after years of high pressure games.

I like McDermott, but he's replaceable, and the team may be better for it. I'm just worried about roster turnover associated with the scheme change.

Not to mention the Great Reset is pushing forward with more and more younger generations on board with working from home (where your job can be easily outsourced to third world retards for cheap) as well as on board with not socializing in the real world and just staying home on their "social media" apps and having everything delivered to their homes.

The guy’s worth $7B and he came across as a blithering idiot…. I thought to myself: I should be worth at least $10B if this guys at 7…. Sigh

Like people with PhDs, rich people (unless it's inherited wealth) tend to be really, really good at one thing which they've made a bunch of money from. They then tend to thing that being good at drilling for oil, say, which is the thing that made Pegula rich, means that they're good at other things.

141 What do you do to counteract a media-driven narrative that vilifies the current administration just to win an election? Gold is at ~$5000/ounce and silver is >$100/ounce. How is this not a five-alarm indicator of the volatility regarding fiat currency? People make fun of Peter Schiff, but they also made fun of the “Big Shott “ strategy in 2008.
It’s likely that the NGOs and non-profits have been acting as a slush fund for political parties used for re-election money. We’re on the verge of revolution due to a dishonest media and minority party to sow chaos in order to sway voters in an election year. They’re looking for another George Floyd moment.
How many cities need to burn, and how many people need to die, in order to fuel their lust for political power?
It amazes me the lengths the left will go to regain control. People need to research color and violent revolutions used by Marxist. I know people who I consider extremely intelligent that believe this sh!t! It’s very disheartening!

The only "good" thing to come out of the Plandemic was the exposure for the country to see the corruption and depravity that has become the U.S.A.'s school system. D.E.I., BLM, LGBTQ+ propaganda; left/Marxist messaging; anti-U.S.A., anti-Christian, pro-Islam messaging, etc.

We knew teachers in general were becoming less and less competent over the past few decades, but the corruption and blatant radical left-wing/Marxist indoctrination and propaganda was eye-opening in it's audacity.

Apparently there is no other effective means of self-rule and the rest of it, without periodic reminders. Sadly.

232 Report on NDH's health status as of an hour ago on X:

Morning.

My mom needs prayers and positive energy right now. Her surgery to implant the impella yesterday went sideways, very sideways, and we almost lost her.

She is currently in the ICU on an ECMO and under sedation. Thankfully the Drs have no concerns with her neurological condition.

With everything that occured yesterday and into the night, my biggest fear was that the worsening of her overall health would inpact her abilty to receive a new heart, it will not.

Thank you to everyone for their support and we ask that you please keep her in your thoughts and prayers and share her story.

*To answer a question that came up, I do not have this platform, so I will only be posting updates via her account and GoFund.

Yep. Same as Uvalde murderer and several other tooled up asshole shooters. The ignorant tend to buy high end guns because they view them an extension of their persons and because 'they are the best'.

The serious operators are more into viewing guns as tools and an extension of their software (training), parts, reliability, and logistics, come into the picture at that point.

Lot of deadly shooters with just plain jane pew pew devices because they spend the time and money on training rather than equipment.

Regarding LinkedIn, the few times I decide to click on some of the articles sent to me in the weekly e-mail, it's someone propagandizing about the wonders of WFH and 4-day or 30-hour work weeks. Or people on social media sites complaining about how rough the 40-hr work week is for them, accusing all us gen-x-ers and boomers of having had it easy. Riiiiight.

Nevermind that most of us engineers have been for most of our careers working 50-60 hour work weeks with our salaried positions that come with "casual overtime". Which actually means we are mandated to work at least 1 hour of overtime per day or 5 hours per week (45 hours minimum). Because that is what is demanded for the job.

Nevermind that many boomers worked even more hours than that or worked multiple jobs to make ends meet for their families. Many working hard labor jobs outdoors.

These younger generations were born into abundance and have no idea how easy they have it.

Another short cut trying to use mechanical devices to make up for lack of training in changing mags.

For the average civilian or even police, full auto devices are useless. Military uses them for suppressive fire mainly but not needed for encounters that police or civilians engage in.

Semi auto shoots faster than a lot of people can control for the second shot. And less problems legally because the authorities frown upon spray and pray. In a real guerrilla action, wasting hard to replace ammo is also a stupid thing to do in most cases.

AWFLs are insane. The woke mind virus has infected way too much of the U.S. population, especially the female population. That combined with females' seemingly innate quality to be easily controlled combined with being paid by leftist/Democrat groups to agitate combined with law enforcement across the country for decades now not prosecuting these people to the full extent of the law for lesser offenses has led to this.

324 She got a job working at firestone tire factory doing programming. Moved out of section 8 housing real quick and she never took another dime from welfare.

Granted the vast majority stay on welfare pretty much for life. My sister is the only welfare success story I know but there must be more out there.

Posted by: Mister Scott (Formerly GWS) at January 24, 2026 12:33 PM

Your sister's story is the ideal of how welfare is intended to work. But unfortunately, too many people do not have the desire to get off of welfare and better themselves like your sister. Too many people are lazy and find it easier to just do nothing and mooch off the American taxpayer. And still bitch and complain.

Just like there is a limit to how long one can get unemployment insurance benefits, there should a similar period for welfare. Along with a welfare office where one has to check in and confirm they are taking steps like your sister did to get themselves off of welfare.

Welfare should have requirements that need to be met to have it continue. And a firm end date (e.g. no longer than 2 years) as incentive to meet those requirements.

327 Paris was closely ringed by the Germans and the only real way in or out at the end was by hot air balloon.

For an interesting aside, the Communards were buying anything that could shoot and be shipped in crates by rail for the defense of Paris.
The Germans were capturing the trains and selling them to Bannerman's who accepted them, but advised the Germans that they were currently selling weapons to anyone who could pay, and the Parisians could pay.
The Germans said they didn't care, they would capture them again.
Bannerman's thought some of the guns got sold three times or more.

There is in Oregon, there is a requirement for "being in school or receiving training" to qualify for long term benefits. 340 COFFEE SUGGESTION ... For those of you in the path of the ice storm, you could brew some coffee while you still have power and store it in a Mason jar ... Then if you happen to lose power, you could reheat it in a saucepan over a "Muffin Tin Emergency Stove" fueled by 3-4 tea light candles ... There are lots of images and instructions on the internet ... For safety, I strongly suggest placing this reheating setup on your stovetop -- rather than a table or countertop -- and extinguishing the candles when not needed.
