People who keep us thinking past artificial intelligence

scott_adams_biden.jpg

R.I.P. Scott Adams

Scott Adams never lost the ability to surprise me with his ideas and observations. He could comment on the same event or situation everyone else was looking at and reveal a new angle or a whole new world. My brain grew every time I heard his voice. What a loss. What a figure.

THOMAS SOWELL: My Experience With Artificial Intelligence.

Another target of this particular AI fraud is military historian Victor Davis Hanson. In addition to his profound scholarly writings on military history, Prof. Hanson has also spoken out strongly on many current and controversial issues.

Apparently those who do not agree with him cannot argue effectively against what he said. So they use AI to make him seem to be saying something different.

It's easy enough for the legacy media to change the meaning of what people say WITHOUT AI. We're in for some new experiences.

WEEKEND

The Week in Pictures: Swap Market Edition

This week we said hello to a new heroine in Iran, and goodbye to a hero at home. But “The Crazy” marches on, both on the streets and in Supreme Court case arguments, where liberal justices continue to not disappoint, providing endless comic entertainment. Here’s a suggestion for the Wall Street swap market types: let’s swap Minnesota for Greenland and Alberta, and swap the Iranian cigarette girl for every AWFL in America.

14 Was only a casual observer of Dilbert, but always thought Scott did a fantastic job on the strip, very good observations of society

Posted by: Skip at January 17, 2026 11:26 AM (Ia/+0)

15 I mentioned this before, but Scott Adams had a funny story in one of his books.

Scott's career arc was:

Working for the phone company in San Francisco and living in worker bee housing.

Getting rich from Dilbert and getting fired by the phone company (his boss didn't like the portrayal of "the boss" in Dilbert).

Moving to Blackhawk, one of the wealthiest and most exclusive developments in the East Bay.

Since Scott was a minor celebrity, he got invited to a lot of parties in Blackhawk.

Now the people at these parties are wealthy people living in the San Francisco Bay Area. They have won at the game of life.

You'd think they would have nothing to complain about, and you would be wrong. They were constantly complaining, and Scott made a lengthy list of all the things they complained about.

It was hilarious.

17 Thank G-d for VDH's recovery, and RIP, Scott.

I always liked Adams, though he could be a bit of a nut at times.

But at no time did I ever consider him remotely "conservative" and he certainly was not a "pundit." I don't know exactly what he was, but it's definitely not a pundit. They're all shills and tards, and he wasn't that.

Media people are so simplistic, and reductive, and shallow, and stupid. It's just amazing to watch these people "think."

"Hurr durrrrr, famous man is famous. Famous man mentions politics sometimes. Famous man is pundit. Famous pundit man says things my drunk idiot friends don't like. Famous pundit man is conservative pundit man duhhhh"

I'm surprised these people don't need assistance feeding themselves.

19 It was hilarious.

Scott also eviscerated a lowly Marxist professor who tried to make a name for himself denouncing Dilbert.

The Dilbert comic strip, you see, implied that there was a lot of deadwood in large organizations.

This is completely wrong - every person in large organizations is absolutely necessary, and Scott was supporting mass unemployment or something by implying that you could reduce headcount and make these organizations more efficient.

21 Moving to Blackhawk, one of the wealthiest and most exclusive developments in the East Bay.

Sadly, moving to Blackhawk did mark the end of the best period of Dilbert.

Scott claimed that he could write about corporate bureaucracy just as well from his lovely redwood deck at his fancy house as he could from a cubicle, and it just wasn't the case - Dilbert definitely lost some of its edge.

At the time, I observed that Scott should pay some large bureaucracy to employ and abuse him, to keep his muse intact.

22 Scott made the fatal mistake of commenting on race being a white, heterosexual male.

It is forbidden even if what he said was common sense.

Only the privileged races can speak about race even if what the privileged races say is racist.

This has been forgotten by pretty much everyone (myself included). There is no right to protest. Only peacefully assemble. We need to start separating protesting from peacefully assembling. Protesting is not protected, peaceful assembly is.

32 Adams' remarks about black people are only true up to a point. Are you living in NYC or Chicago? Then yeah, black people are racist AF, they're violent about it, and you should give them a wide berth.

Are you living in heritage America? That's where it falls apart. The black people in my small city I've lived in the past few years are not racists. They work jobs, they go to church, and are nice to their white neighbors. A couple of blacks on my block are lesbos, but they're the rarest of birds - pleasant lesbos who don't annoy me.

44 Scott Adams Quotes

Which is your favorite? Do you recall the context of your favorite?

I have used Dilbert comics at work for my entire career. One that hit home for me in my current engineering job is one where he comments on how management always wants "one-pagers". One PowerPoint slide which summarizes weeks or months of work and pages and pages of data for design proposals, etc.

So after discussing this with his manager, Dilbert comes to the meeting with one slide that is just one big black blotch. When asked, he says all the months of work and data is all stuffed in that one slide and that is the result of fitting it in there.

I hate one-pagers. There's never enough space and you can never sufficiently summarize the work with enough detail to give to management to understand everything. Inevitably there will be a question "What does this generic statement you have here mean?" and I'll want to say "well, you wanted me to summarize 50 slides worth of data and information into one sentence, of course it doesn't explain every single detail."

The statements were all common sense things that believing Christians would like to hear from clergy. But it was weirdly repetitive and the cadence was a bit off. I couldn't find a written source for this particular sermon online. So I finally wrote back and said, "There's something weird about this. How did you hear about it?" She told me one of her friends sent it to her and she didn't think it was real but she liked it anyway. But here she is, spreading it around without offering any caveats. Maybe she figured it was so obvious she didn't have to tell me.

Absolutely.

I think the issue is that over the past 20 years or so, the right to peacefully assemble has been transformed into a "right to protest" and the definition of "protest" has been completely mangled to allow for breaking all sorts of laws (rioting, blocking roads, attacking people peacefully assembling supporting a different opinion, etc).

That needs to end. Laws should be enforced.

I think every city or state over the past 20+ years which has not had their law enforcement disperse crowds who block streets and arrest each and every one of them who does not disperse has allowed for invocation of the Insurrection Act.

This stuff has been going on for decades now and has just gotten worse and worse and worse, because of the mangling of the "right to protest", which does not exist. Anything beyond peacefully assembling is breaking the law and should be met with arrest. Because it has not, domestic terrorism has been allowed to be considered "protesting".

As I've been saying since Trump first started on his campaign to make a deal about Greenland it is easily explained if you look at a globe from the top instead of the side.

Greenland is the most strategic location in the western hemisphere when it comes to the Arctic region and national defense not to mention shipping. That why we have had a base in Greenland since the Nazis took Denmark in WWII.

Posted by: JackStraw at January 17, 2026 12:09 PM (viF8m)

86 I can't help but laugh at Denmark and friends proclaiming they will defend Greenland from a military takeover. I'm sure that Trump wants to pay a fair price for Greenland, not take it by force. Jesse Kelly theorized a few weeks ago that Denmark is saying no way we'll ever sell just to increase the purchase price.

Most people have zero clue about due process in general, and no understanding of what it means in civil v criminal v administrative proceedings. Immigration is its own animal with specific statutory and procedural rules that constitute all the "due process" to which immigrants are entitled. And it's very truncated and streamlined, especially when compared to, say, a citizen's rights to due process in a criminal proceeding. 176 Trump needs to appoint an Anti-Insurrection Task Force (whatever he wants to call it). The purpose would be primarily public information, education and propaganda -- informing the people every single day of what is going on, why it is illegal, why it possibly constitutes insurrection, and the organizations and funding behind the "protests." Reps from the task force would open or close every one of Leavitt's briefings, and otherwise flood social media and legacy media with messages, memes and narrative challenges. This would also prepare the public if and when he invokes the Insurrection Act. Every domestic battle Trump is fighting will be decided in the court of public opinion, and right now we are not fighting with the force equal to the Left.

Honestly this is a great premise for a sitcom:

In the icy wasteland of Greenland, a ragtag NATO detachment of 13 Germans, 2 Norwegians, 3 Swedes, 15 French and 1 lone Brit must "defend" the Arctic from... well, mostly boredom, polar bears, and each other's national stereotypes.

Stationed at a remote outpost in Nuuk, their biggest enemies are cabin fever, frozen plumbing, the Danes who keep forgetting they're there, and each other. They’re constantly prepping to counter the absurd threat of an American takeover with the total force smaller than a pub trivia team.

The show will have everything - petty national rivalries that project from history, offensive cultural stereotypes, frustration due to NATO bureaucracy, and because this is so European, the whole thing will be pretty gay.

Oh and a recurring theme is that they will constantly be picking on the lone Brit.
