Hodgetwins: BREAKING: Federal Judge Tosses FBI Agents’ Lawsuit — Jan. 6 Names Could Be Released ⚖️ A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by FBI agents trying to block the release of their names related to the Jan. 6 Capitol protest investigations. The agents claimed they could be targeted if their identities were exposed. But Judge Jia Cobb — a Biden-appointed judge — said the threat wasn’t “imminent” enough and called their concerns “too speculative.” The DOJ hasn’t said they’ll release the names… yet. Let’s be clear: These agents helped carry out one of the most politically charged investigations in modern history. American citizens have EVERY RIGHT to know who was behind it. Top photo is what it felt like during last night's storm.
Daisy, our barks-at-anything Belgian Malinois is not bothered by fireworks or thunder. However, we're dogsitting Daughter's two pooches while she and hub are on a belated anniversary vacation, and both of them (the dogs, not daughter & sil) burst into the bedroom at 4:30am. Maya, the compact one, just ran under our bed and wouldn't have been noticed except for her whip-like tail thumping. Chowie, the shaggy setter wanted to crawl into bed with us. Daisy had discretely exited the bedroom riot to go back to sleep on the couch. I wouldn't want a steady diet of that, but it was chuckleworthy. It really was a loud storm. "You're bluffing." "Vulcans never bluff." ". . . No. No, I don't suppose that they do. Very well, Mr. Spock; the bridge is yours." Decker was not only a ranking officer, as a commodore he outranked Kirk. The presumption of a court martial would be to start with the idea that the commanding officer, Decker, was right and in his right mind. Spock would have to convince the board otherwise; tough to do, as we saw in The Caine Mutiny. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at July 18, 2025 08:29 PM (omVj0) 59

Commodore is a senior naval rank used in many navies which is equivalent to brigadier or brigadier general and air commodore. It is superior to a navy captain, but below a rear admiral. It is either regarded as the most junior of the flag officers rank or may not hold the jurisdiction of a flag officer at all depending on the officer's appointment. Non-English-speaking nations commonly use the rank of flotilla admiral, counter admiral, or senior captain as an equivalent, although counter admiral may also correspond to rear admiral lower half abbreviated as RDML.
Traditionally, "commodore" is the title for any officer assigned to command more than one ship, even temporarily, much as "captain" is the traditional title for the commanding officer of a single ship even if the officer's official title in the service is a lower rank. As an official rank, a commodore typically commands a flotilla or squadron of ships as part of a larger task force or naval fleet commanded by an admiral. A commodore's ship is typically designated by the flying of a broad pennant, as compared to an admiral's flag. Posted by: rickb223 at July 18, 2025 08:32 PM (k3Vs9) 61

The climactic scene of "Doomsday Machine" always gets me -- everything about it, from editing to music.
One point I wish they had addressed. If they couldn't read through the thing's neutronium hull, how could Kirk have beamed out through it? Spock would have had to make sure the Enterprise was in line with the other ship, without the planet-killer's hull between them -- a line-of-sight arrangement (though there'd have been thousands of miles between the ships). James Blish's adaptation of it has Spock suggest that the very existence of one planet killer implies at least one more -- a much more chilling ending than in the aired episode. Someone years later wrote a pro novel suggesting that the planet-killers were developed to fight . . . the Borg! It’s like every barn or garage in America has some classic car tucked away. The temp license plate is totally fake. They didn’t use temp plates like that in early 1980s. And it’s in way too good condition for a piece of paper sitting there for 40+ years. The car would be under literally inches of dust in 40+ years. That car looked like someone tossed some dust on it. That 1982 vette is a very rare car. They sell more Lamborghinis in a year than they sold that car. The odds that someone has one sitting there unused for 40+ years is zero. This baby star, a proto-star (not yet initiating fusion) is known as HOPS-315, and is part of M78, the Orion Nebular. Orion has disappeared into the sun now, but it's first hints of morning appearance will be around late July to early August for us here. Anyway, when you see Orion, draw a line from Betelgeuse to Alnitak. M78 and HOPS-315 lie a little to the left of that line, a little above Alnitak. Posted by: Tom Servo at July 18, 2025 *** In a globular cluster, though, if the average distance between stars is much less than our four light years to the nearest star, they might be able to achieve limited star flight. It would help if they were naturally long-lived beings or had developed life-prolongation methods, or did cold sleep for the years it would take to get to the next star. But they could well be limited to only those stars in their cluster. So this week has brought into total focus the psychological operation that is going on under Trump II. At a time when we should be happy, celebratory, elated - Kamala lost, Trump won, the media sucks, woke is on a downturn.
There is an op going on under our noses. The op is to divide "MAGA" - right wing - support. I know we have always argued here - duh - usually when losing. But lately there is a fracture in each story jussst in a place where "both sides" only seem to have half of it. And "both sides" of that argument feel equally strongly, and want to kill each other. It has happened enough times now that I know it's engineered. Two would be coincidence. Three is a trend. My guess is they're using a combination of AI to come up with schisms, setting media narratives to press along the fault lines, and then using paid disruptors to distribute narratives that will appeal to each faction. Why divide us? Because it's the only move that makes sense in a Trump II world. It explains why in some ways they have been letting Trump cook. Taking him on too directly would unite his side more. Instead they are starting with paper cuts, and digging until they become wounds. Posted by: ... at July 18, 2025 09:28 PM (E0p3T) 161

A wormhole is a hypothetical structure that connects disparate points in spacetime. It can be visualized as a tunnel with two ends at separate points in spacetime (i.e., different locations, different points in time, or both). Wormholes are based on a special solution of the Einstein field equations.[1] More precisely they are a transcendental bijection of the spacetime continuum, an asymptotic projection of the Calabi–Yau manifoldmanifesting itself in anti-de Sitter space.[2]
A wormhole visualized as a two-dimensional surface. Route (a) is the shortest path through normal space between points 1 and 2; route (b) is a shorter path through a wormhole. Posted by: rickb223 at July 18, 2025 09:30 PM (k3Vs9) 166
Wormholes are consistent with the general theory of relativity, but whether they actually exist is unknown. Many physicists postulate that wormholes are merely projections of a fourth spatial dimension, analogous to how a two-dimensional (2D) being could experience only part of a three-dimensional (3D) object.[3]

HOPS-315 is just 100 - 200K years old. It'll be several million more years before main fusion will start. There is a brief deuterium burning phase that happens early on in stars of this size and makeup class (our Sun was one as well). HOPS-315 may have just started that, or is about to. This system is so interesting all eyes will be on it and they'll be getting all sorts of data, and all this will be known soon. Vera Rubin will likely find a lot more. At any rate, 3I is likely about 7 billion years old, far older than the solar system, and originated from an ancient star in the "thick disc" (wider disc above and below the denser "thin disc" in which the sun resides). https://tinyurl.com/yqb9hlhb They've got some plots there showing 3I's galactic trajectory.
