Painting of the Bridge of Sighs in Venice
by Gustave Dore
If memory serves, it's called the Bridge of Sighs
because the bridge leads from a prison to the
place of execution. You get a few sighs of regret
as you cross it. Swell view, though!

My memory didn't quite serve. The bridge led not from the prison to the gallows, but from the courts where the accused were tried to the prisons where they were subsequently jailed.

Dog never goes anywhere without his teddy bear.

Another happy customer.

Re-Post: They thought it would be nice to be married at a farm. They thought wrong.

This cat's been riding her dog-brother since she was a kitten.

Cuddling an otter.

Head-tilting with a friend.

Cats will steal anyone's bed.

Drone captures images of great white sharks gliding just beneath the surface. Good video, just excuse his relentless Shark Apologism. ("The most misunderstood of creatures" -- nah, I understand them just fine. We just disagree on whether I'm food.)

Cute dog is moved by seeing Simba suffer in The Lion King.

Dungeons & Dragons TV commercial from the early eighties.

Women feeds and raises an orphaned fawn, "Thor."

Replacing Timothy Chalamet in Dune with Elmo the Muppet. I don't really see much difference.

A couple's dog passed. Then the goofiest-looking stray dog decided they should adopt him.

Beaver enjoys a good rub.

27 From the last post:

Boys of NYC: I can see why many of you are single after reading Julia's diatribe of hysterics and mental juju to Murry Hill Guy. Because he cancelled the dinner without getting into a political back and forth with Julia. She probably chewed with her mouth open, anyway.

I totally love his lawyer who called her batshit. I don't think I have ever read that from a lawyer in a letter or any form. Good for him!

THIS right there is why there are Title IX and #MeToo crap. Ok, some are legit (especially boys in locker rooms with boners pretending to be girls). Some are real cases. But I'd hazard a guess that many are college girls who have sex and then do the walk of shame when the guy does not ask them out.

This reminds me of the guy (I read it here or reddit) who had a bazillion texts over six months (I think 500k) from a crazy woman who wanted to marry him. He had to get restraining orders and she was finally arrested from breaking into his apt and taking a bath. I think Julia would do this. She was interviewed in prison and still totally thought they should marry! Ok!

Hang in there, men. There are normal women out there somewhere, even in NYC. Blows kisses.

Last time DH went golfing, he stopped at the pro shop to buy a few boxes of balls. The kid selling them asked if he should put them in his golf cart. DH told him to just walk around the course and randomly throw them into the woods to save time.

Just looking, Georgia accounts for about half of all US peanut production. That's about 1.6M tons. Out of curiosity, SC peanut production is about 300M lbs, or just 150K tons.

Biggest counties are Orangeburg, Calhoun, and Hampton, with other surrounding counties doing some. Horry county, which Mike mentioned is a 2nd tier level, as is Darlington. The other coastal counties there produce some as well. NC may grow a few above there as well.

Just reading about the proposed probes of Uranus. Nothing has been set in stone, but NASA and the ESA have a few concept missions.

Did not know this, but the necessary alignments with Jupiter required for gravity assist are sparse in the 2020s and 2030s, making the launch windows tight. Adding some Venus assists to make a much longer lolly-gagging trajectory could be done.

And, plutonium production is getting scarce as well (used for the RTGs), and that may be a problem.

Anyway, orbital insertion into Uranus is tight and tricky and well.

To hide imperfections in the shell, BUT there is more. When we embargoed imports from Iran, we started growing more here, and because there wasn’t the shipping involved, and we are Americans, therefore better, there were fewer imperfections. And then they stopped dying them in the US to distinguish from imported ones from the ME.

Is that ever the truth.

In college, had a part-time evening job running daily computer tapes. I looked out the window one summer evening, about 7 o'clock. I'm the only one in the building. I see a pickup across the lawn had run off the one-and-a-half lane road on the far edge, its engine running (I could see the exhaust).

I locked up and walked over to the truck to see if anyone needed help. As I got closer, I saw a man leaning over the steering wheel. I got to the window and said, 'Hey Bu--'. That's all I got out. His eyes were vacant. I felt for a pulse. None. The guy was dead of an apparent heart attack. Turned the engine off, grabbed the keys (so no one could steal the truck) and called in a dead body/single vehicle traffic 'accident'.

You never know.

Now, in those Ridge Spring pictures, note the bank building. Very classic, imposing, but small right in the middle of the little town. They built banks that way back them. 1918, I think.

Now, there's a similar bank building in the nearby town of Johnston, SC. Somebody is trying to restore that which Miley was reading about, and she wanted to drive by it, so after lunch we swung by Johnston.

That's in Edgefield County, and as we crossed the county line, I told Miley she was now in J. Strom Thurmond's stomping grounds. Almost drove on to the town of Edgefield itself to see J. Strom's statue, there, but decided just to head home.

263 The NEA today is a skinsuit NEA, just like dozens of other once respected & non-controversial groups and organizations. ABA; AMA; you name it.

265 Another thing I miss about Colorado is a restaurant that featured New Mexico style food. they had a wonderful green chili sauce. I could buy it in jars. Wonder if I could have it delivered here?

You just landed on the New Mexico interdict and deport list. I've had "New Mexico" food in Colorado. The nicest thing I can say about it is only poutine is worse.

I have never seen Jaws in its entirety. But I saw the third act in a motel room a few weeks ago, after a long hike. Not bad.

269 FFS. These interviews with the players on the field has me about ready to turn off the All-Star game. What's next? Robot umpires? Boxing style ringing girls to announce the innings... Oh wait, that's a pretty good idea.

Poutine is the food of a proud people.

Sure they're a bunch of soy-sodden commies lookingto be annexed by the USA, but still a proud peopke

If you ever do watch it look at the scene of the people getting off the ferry near the begining of the movie. Some of the kids were my classmates.

They didn't get paid to be extras but they got a free ferry ride to the Vineyard. Nobody expected the movie to be anything so why not get a free ride?

Was it a salsa, or an enchilada sauce? I could find a recipe either way.

274 Pug, Cookwell green chili sauce. You will thank me, I guarantee you.

275 Pug Mahon, don't tell anybody, but I am required by law and custom, as a legal New Mexico resident, to lash out at Colorado. Don't ask about what happens when Arizona or, having forbid, Texas is mentioned; no bueno.

276 We lived in CO from 1996 through 2025. We saw it all. We also saw its frightening descent into Californistan.

We love Idaho. Boise is weird, but Idaho is a blast.

I understand, I just believe I'm never not going to love the mountains.

And there are still some people there I love.

I happened to have poutine today. Not on my regular menu, but it was 5 P.M., and I had not eaten a bite since the previous evening. It hit the spot.

280 "Bridge of Sighs"...Robin Trower, one of the best albums ever. Biker dude told me..."Like hendrix? try a listen to this dude" gave me an 8 track tape. I drove up to Ohio from Texas with a motorcycle and a birddog in the back of my chevy stepside. Had a knock down drag out with my father, packed back up and left with my younger brother along for the ride,he was too young to drive, we hadn't gone 20 miles when I popped the Trower tape in...felt better, but when it came time to switch tapes it was stuck in the machine...I drove 23 hrs straight back home to Texas with it playing over and over, and over. Couldn't stand to hear it for a couple of decades after that. I'll break it out about once a year now.
