Don't Beware of Dog Cafe

fallscene.jpg

The emaciated pit bull in the shelter wasn't given a name because they knew she'd die and naming the dog would make that harder. But one woman couldn't forget the dog with no name.

The British built fake trees to hide spies and snipers in during World War One. They put the fake trees out into No Man's Land at night and trusted that no one would notice. (Actually they were made to resemble trees on the battlefield, which they removed and replaced with the fake.)

I hope you don't think I'm a coward, but if I was ordered to hide in a fake tree out in No Man's Land, I would take the court martial.

Dog failed out of seeing-eye-dog school and is now a pet. But he keeps dragging his normal-sighted owner around.

No fence can keep a boy and a dog from playing with each other.

Making a pet of a pine marten. That noise would drive me crazy.

Cute Australian woman raises an orphaned 'roo.

Orphaned wombat gets sassy as he enters his teenage years.

Magpie raised by a dog won't stop barking.

Baby hippo is a straight savage.

German shepherd and husky act out a buddy cop movie where one is a motormouth and the other is the strong silent type. I think maybe it's Rush Hour.

(Am I the first person in 20 years to even think of Rush Hour?)

Sheep vs. bucket.

Leading a lost baby elephant back to its family.

31 I saw the new Superman this afternoon. Eh. Fun.

Corenswet was a perfect Supe, charmingly straight arrow and not apologizing for it. Brosnahan made a good Lois Lane and I liked their comic patter.

The pocket universe, a sort of oubliette for Alex Luther's enemies, felt very Gunnian and Guardiansesque.

I wouldn't call it woke, per se, but it was strenuously diverse, a middle eastern falafel vendor's death is a huge tragedy in the plot, and Superman being an "alien" is stressed a lot (and he's imprisoned without due process!), so, Gunn got his lib licks in, but it didn't ruin the movie for me.

I am too old for all the frenetic CGI action though.

How Not to Be Seen weren't soldiers, just people who didn't want to be seen and were blown up if the hiding place was inferior. One part they asked the person to 'come out' and show the hiding place, and when he did they blew him up. This added the lesson 'Don't come out when asked"

He achieved greatness when he learned to throw it over the plate with consistency. Maybe a quarter and a third of the way in his career. Getting traded to Houston with its distant walls was also quite a boon. Being able to keep it up for an additional decade is all to his credit, he was no junkballer.

The very first episode of Deadwood is incredibly vulgar, language-wise, for the shock value in my opinion. They slightly tone down the F and C bombs subsequently, and Milch writes the dialogue in an almost Shakespearean way. Once you accept that, it is easier to deal with.

The Wire has an awesome ensemble cast, and the dialogue to me seems incredibly realistic. People say shit to each other like they do in life.

Wiki:
It is the only surviving member of the family Antilocapridae.

During the Pleistocene epoch, about 11 other antilocaprid species existed in North America

Three other genera existed when humans entered North America but are now extinct.

The pronghorn's closest living relatives are the giraffe and okapi. The antilocaprids are part of the infraorder Pecora, making them distant relatives of deer, bovids, and moschids.

So it's not closely related to any other North American animals, because we ate them all.

They are unique in their cardiovascular capacity. Over an arbitrarily-long distance, they're the fastest land animals on earth, and it's not even close. Second place is human beings, because we know how to jog. Cheetahs can run 75mph, but only for 1600 feet. Pronghorns can go 35mph for several miles.

Another feature of evolution is how sometimes a species will pop out that looks like a cat but isn't but because it is living like a cat starts to look more like our modern ones. The marsupial wolves/dogs in Australia and South America before connecting to North America are other examples. When they hit modern predators won the invasion aside a few like opossums migrating north.

224 Now Doc on Gunsmoke wasn’t really Galen Adams.

That is, if one is a stickler for canon.

In the Radio series that preceded the TV show, Doc (played by Howard McNear) ran into trouble in Baltimore. He killed a man who traumatized his true love, so much that she killed herself.

Doc was a fugitive from Justice, changed his name to Galen Adams, but eventually was tracked down & discovered in Dodge City. But he proved himself such a great doctor for the community, the sheriff who was looking for him let it slide. This seems to be a pretty common plot device in a lot of shows.

256 Another critter kinda like cats, is the Ringtail. Also known as “Miner’s Cats”, because they are domesticable into being mousers.

I only learned about them because I couldn’t figure out what was raiding my crockpot at night (*clink* went the lid) and running to and fro on my RV roof. Very agile climbers. A desert species. They seem pretty friendly, and have interesting fur.

She guested on a Barnaby Jones episode near the end of it's run. I was so disappointed. She got bumped off in the first five minutes.

I just read the Bible during services.

They had a very fancy party at this hall for their grandchild who turned one years old which is a big deal there since many children never reached age 1 early in the countries history.

I was surprised when the adults had soju - 19%.

299 Years ago I was in the east Texas countryside, near Carthage, and I had some time to kill so I took a walk on an old logging road. It was soft sand, so my footsteps were very quiet. Came around a bend, and there was a big bobcat sleeping under a tree about 20’ from me! He jumped up and stared at me , and I stopped and stared at him, and we both decided we didn’t really want to mess around with each other, so he trotted off in one direction and I trotted off in the other. Pretty cool, really.

300 Methodists use grape juice at their monthly communion, or at least that's what it was when I was a kid and went to church with the in-laws.

As far as I can tell, the Catholic Church is the only Bingo and Booze Religion out there.
Posted by: RickZ

Yup. Protestant churches mostly excuse it, if someone asks, as not giving their brother an occasion to sin, I'm guessing because they think the congregation is full of dried-out alcoholics who will go on a bender at the merest sip.

And then there's the Evangelical Reformed Churches, which have gone back to wine every Sunday for communion, even though they haven't managed an unleavened bread (bread for communion is provided by families in the congregation) yet.
