Reminds me of my dad's uncle George. Uncle George wore bib overalls, smoked a pipe, and lived in a three room house that had electricity but no running water or indoor plumbing. He listened to a radio for entertainment and news. A big 1930s radio, like the one on the Waltons TV show. He would sit outside under a shade tree and whittle. Independence (Squire Jack Porter), Artist Frank Blackwell Mayer Date 1858 oil on paperboard Jack Porter, a veteran of the War of 1812 who made a handsome living from Pennsylvania's coal mines, is surrounded by handmade objects, including a corncob pipe, a roughly-hewn wooden bench, and his wife's knitting. As a self-sufficient landholder and businessman, "Squire Jack" embodied an independent and enduring spirit that, by the 1850s, had become an American ideal, celebrated by painters and writers alike. The squire takes his ease on the porch of a substantial home, dressed in a flowered vest, black cravat, and polished boots that signal the rewards of his hard work. There's something satisfying to the Y chromosome to take a pile of yarn skeins, poke at it with two sticks for a while, and then suddenly have a sweater where you didn't have a sweater before.
Men love making something useful out of something not useful. It's in our nature. So it's really kind of weird that most men are deathly afraid of fiber crafts, as if halfway through sleeve island, men in suits from the government will come by the house one day and deliver their "You're A Homosexual Now" card. The document, which was released publicly on Monday and which received 620 signatures, outlines several areas of concern. Those include changes to the EPA's research and development practices and cuts to its environmental justice initiatives, which provide funding to support vulnerable communities." ---- Meaning the non-profits for 'environmental justice' are wailing for Biden $ 'promised' in some prior Bill. The Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans. The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation's economy. “This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned." The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. Additionally, it provides an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they have earned.
Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them. Posted by: toby928 at July 04, 2025 10:54 AM (jc0TO) 216

It was a statement of open defiance from top EPA employees, who obviously thought that they were irreplaceable. Bowdoin acceptance rate is 8%.
Harvard is 4%. But Harvard is artificially lowered because everyone with good grades applies to Harvard figuring what the hell, give it a shot. Places like Bowdoin don’t get the entire world applying. So I’d say relatively speaking it’s harder to get into there than Harvard. Posted by: Its Go Time Donald at July 04, 2025 11:07 AM (KrOdt) 245
