Jury Mostly Exonerates P Diddler

I haven't followed this, but I think they got this mostly right. Half of the charges I didn't even understand. It was like Jack McCoy on Law & Order, portrayed as a crusader hero for twisting the law to fit iffy facts. Half of the fictitious people he convicted had actually committed no actual crime.

Or much like the J6 prosecutors did, coming up with strained theories about "parading" being part of a "conspiracy to defraud the United States."

There's no doubt that this guy is an absolute degenerate pervert, and a weird gay dude into cuck fantasies, but unfortunately we've pretty much made simple sexual degeneracy legal, or even approved by the state.

Diddler was found guilty of two minor charges of paying for prostitutes to cross state lines. The "crossing state lines" is what gives this law some kind of a federal pretext. Usually prostitution is handled by state courts, and usually it's not seriously prosecuted.

He was found not guilty on all of the serious charges, like some kind of a RICO charge -- I guess they argued that he was the head of a criminal syndicate to commit "Freak-Offs" -- and two counts of sex trafficking.

Hip-hop icon Sean Combs was stunningly acquitted Wednesday on federal charges of forcing his former lovers to live out his degrading sexual fantasies -- but found guilty of lesser prostitution raps.
Combs, better known by his stage name Diddy, dodged charges that carried a possible life sentence after a two-month trial that revealed twisted details about the mogul, including his preference for "freak-offs" -- watching his girlfriends have grueling, drug-fueled sex romps with male escorts.
The embattled entrepreneur, 55, had faced life in prison after being charged with racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.
But a jury convicted him only of prostitution charges stemming from shipping the escorts across state lines, which could send him to prison for up to 20 years.
Jurors had deliberated for 13 hours total over three days, leading to a dramatic scene in a Manhattan federal courtroom Tuesday morning.

Combs nodded his head repeatedly as the verdict was read out and pumped his fist as the jury cleared him on a sex-trafficking charge, saying "thank you" for being cleared on the most serious charge.
He then held his hands in the prayer gesture and waved them in the direction of the jury approvingly

The jury ultimately found Combs guilty of two Mann Act Transportation counts, which are prostitution charges, each carrying a maximum prison term of 10 years.

If you're charging someone with the Mann Act you're pretty desperate.

Megyn Kelly is angry about the judgment, and insists Diddy should have been convicted for sex trafficking. Based on her reportage, apparently the prosecutors tried to prove that Diddler's "girfriends" -- or whatever they were -- were "sexually trafficked" because Diddler sometimes hit them and otherwise exerted his will over them.

In other words, she's arguing that two grown-ass women were incapable of simply leaving. She's arguing that they were essentially kept in captivity for sex, and hence, "sex trafficked."

But they weren't. They were not held against their will. They were free to come and go whenever they liked. At any time, they could have hired a lawyer to sue him or bring charges against him for assault.

But they stayed (until they didn't). Kelly argues that the fear of Diddler hitting them constituted some kind of physical/psychological prison they were kept in.

There are some women I'd say could be said to be "trafficked" even if not kept in cages. I can definitely see children being so intimidated by a man that the man can be convicted of sex trafficking even if they're allowed mostly free movement. I can see illegal alien women transported by criminals for sexual purposes. Even if they're free to walk around and go where they like, I could see an argument that they would feel imprisoned by the people who smuggled them into the country. I could see them feeling that their smugglers have leverage over them. And they also might not know that American cops are responsive to citizen complaints. They won't just yell at you and tell you to go back to your husband (or owner) and be a better concubine, as they might in some countries.

There are American women who know that American cops actually will investigate your claims, and that any lawyer would love to sue Diddler to extract money from him.

I can understand why the jury bought the defense's claim that these women could come and go as they wanted but stayed because they liked the lifestyle and the huge amounts of money Diddler spent on them. I have a hard time agreeing that if a woman chooses to stay with a man, for whatever crazy or corrupt reason, that man can be prosecuted for "trafficking" them.

Trafficked to where? To whom? The whole idea of the charge is that women and children are being taken from their homes and brought to an alien and frightening new land are put to work in actual prostitution. These women were born in America and continue to live in America. They are not isolated and alone in America. They know their way around, and they know how to leave a man if they want to.

If Diddler hit these women, absolutely, prosecute him for assault. But I can't see how he becomes, basically, a kidnapper when the women don't leave.

But again, I didn't follow the case closely. You may have a very different view. If I've missed something, let me know.

Below, Megyn Kelly is angry. She says that Diddler wasn't prosecuted for assault because the statute of limitations had passed long ago.

But... I'm sorry, but that means you can't bring that case. You can't do a Jack McCoy and twist the law to fit the facts to let you prosecute the charge under a different name.

As for the arson-- I completely forgot this was a charge. Or was it? Did the statute of limitations run on that, too, so they re-cast it as part of a RICO charge to overcome the statute of limitations?

I'm just reflexively opposed to this type of shenanigans. Yes, the law imposes limits on prosecutors. That's a feature not a bug.

I tried to watch the recaps of his trial but the details were literally revolting and turned my stomach.

Megyn Kelly is dead wrong but her view is not unusual. Sadly, that view really hurts victims of real sex trafficking. But with very few exceptions, nobody wants to go after real sex traffickers. Why? Because they're mostly Mexican cartels who'll cut off your head if you cross them.

So we go after guys like Diddy. He's scum but taking advantage of gold-diggers and star-fuckers ain't "sex trafficking." It's not even illegal. All these Diddy girls not only knew exactly what they were getting into, they were lined up around the block for it. And they went back repeatedly for more.

I want someone to lay claim to the L&O IP. Do a special movie or miniseries, small number of episodes.

Go back over the previous storylines, and all the legal chicanery that they did to Get Their Man. For the ones with very loose threads, follow up with the results of the appeals... or the news stories about suicides and posthumous exonerations when it was too late. Don't have the actor for Jack McCoy. But lay into him for how badly he screwed things up.

Basically, burn down the series, but doing so with good acting and directing.

James Comey's daughter was one of the prosecutors in the US Attorney's Office. This pings my conspiracy theory radar. She also previously worked on the Ghislaine Maxwell case. I wonder if she was in there to do the dirty work of hiding the REAL crimes of these people, done by the elites and the swamp, while looking like she's trying to get them convicted.

There is a trend right now of women posting videos of women in need of help or being attacked and guys just watching or leaving. They are crying "where are the good men!!" and complaining about the lack of chivalry.

The male response is usually "you chose the bear." And while I think men have a responsibility, a duty, the honor, of protecting the weak and aiding the helpless... the men have a point.

You cannot degrade, attack, demonize, and legally ensnare men for decades without there being consequences. You cannot act the "boss babe" slut and expect to be treated as a lady. "You chose the bear" is shorthand for "this is what you get your display that behavior and treat us like crap for my entire life."

Its just as wrong as the women's behavior, its weak and unmasculine, but its not exactly shocking to see.

Critical Drinker has a very timely post on this. It starts with Scarlett Johansson whining about the "male gaze", which conveniently she's chosen to do as she's aging out of the "smokin' hot ingenue" phase of her career. (TBF, I find her, if anything, hotter now than when she was younger)

The point is, don't exploit your advantage in sex appeal while you have it, and then whine when people evaluate you as a sexual object, or worse, stop viewing you as sexually desirable as you age. If you prefer they look at you in other ways, get a degree in STEM.

People always seem to take it badly when they realize that they are not as smart as they think. Or as virtuous, humorous, stylish, etc.

Ecclesiastes should be required reading along with Proverbs as well as antidotes to that thinking. Both contain ancient wisdom still applicable today.

He puts up with it because he wants that career so badly and even pretends to like it, so he gets his record contract and is promoted.

Technically he's a victim here, but... how much of one?

On your first point, I agree. I followed the case somewhat, and I do not think Diddy is actually guilty of RICO violations or sex trafficking. From what was presented at trial -- there is no underlying criminal enterprise, and as ace said, the women were free to leave if they wanted to. They didnt leave because, well, money and lifestyle. He is guilty of being a disgusting pig, but that's not illegal.

On your second point -- yeah, seems likely. I think he's the black Epstein, and I think it's highly likely there is an entire world of rich & powerful people that he obtained blackmail material on. But again, it seems the women were of age and not coerced beyond, er, their desire for fame, partying, money and drugs.

I don't think it has to be that complicated. Diddy Parties had pretty much every celebrity and rich person around participating and as a result, legally liable for anything awful that happened during them. Prosecution was ordered, or chose to, avoid digging too much into certain aspects of the case because of what it might reveal and who it might implicate.

There's a difference between the vernacular use of "coerced" -- being psychologically pressured in to doing something with fame, money, "lifestyle", the power imbalance etc. and being legally coerced in to doing something.

Given a complete free pass to do any of these things I would not want to and I suspect this is true for the vast, vast majority of men.

I vaguely recall a study that found that the percentage of rapists is quite low but they often get away with it many times before finally being caught. This lead the victims and their friends to believe rapists were common when it was all just a handful of men doing it.

I believe on the first day of deliberations, the jury sent a note to the judge saying one of the, ahem, "Manhattanites" on the jury was a recent immigrant who seemed incapable of understanding the judge's instructions (presumably due to a language barrier).

We were discussing the case in Idaho with the guy who killed those students the other day -- this is what I meant about you never know what you're going to get with a jury. Was that guy bought off, did he truly have no idea what was going on, was someone else on the jury just pissed? Who knows?

But in federal court, the judges ask the potential jurors the questions, so presumably judge Arun Subramanian (a good Italian boy, by the sounds of it) would have filtered out anyone who literally didn't speak english.

We all also agree that we live in a nation of laws, many of which actually make a lot of sense and work in a logical way, and the jury said Sean Combs did not violate the laws on our books re: RICO and sex trafficking, but he did hire prostitutes to cross state lines, and he was convicted of that.

I don't really get what your argument here is. That we should change our laws on sex trafficking to make it a federal felony for a rich man to sleep with a woman if that woman later (self servingly) says "I had to do it, I was afraid of him"? Its not nice to talk about but according to psychological studies and surveys, one of the top sexual fantasies for women is being taken by force. Half the bodice ripper "fantasies" have this as a feature. That's what Bernie Sanders was talking about when he made his stupid statement about women being raped.

I don't think that remotely means women actually want to be raped, and I think that the surveys are heavily skewed by who actually wants to answer that question, but women fantasize about stuff they wouldn't actually want to experience, just like men do.

On a serious note, I wonder if they did the same screw-up as with the OJ trial. They were so anxious to avoid any appearance of racism that the judge, jury, and prosecutors were all DEI hires. The only non-DEI expert I remember was the defenses DNA expert who basically destroyed the prosecution's case.

The OJ judge, Lance Ito was the same guy who screwed up the Junk Bond King (Milkin?) case which was eventually thrown out after the PB spent a few years in jail. Last I heard he was hearing night-time traffic court in Torrance.

The prosecutor lady (forget her name) wrote a book which was basically several hundred pages blaming everybody else and her recent divorce and so forth...
