They're totally different designs, right? K cups are like over grown coffee creamer cups, flar on the bottom. Nespresso pods are hemispherical. Unless there's a nespresso branded machine that uses Kcupe instead.... Posted by: Warai-otoko at June 29, 2025 02:04 PM (BjH5D) 5

That thar thang is an "Immunity Machine." Allow me to explain.
Whenever you have a "community coffee maker" the cleaning process is always suspect. Hotel coffee makers are a good example. However, so are the coffee brewers of convenience stores and gas stations. As a result, each time you use one you are purposefully ingesting various collective bacteria resulting from the haphazard upkeep. And *Bingo*...your body slowly builds up a controllable tolerance to various forms of bacteria and disease. Behold "THE IMMUNITY MACHINES" of the 21st century. ![]() Posted by: Orson at June 29, 2025 02:18 PM (dIske) 45

Tolerance stacking is like aerospace freeplay analysis. In a mechanical system with lots of linkages things that are loosey goosey add up along the control path. And as bad as that is statically, causing jams and stuff, it can be worse dynamically where you get to limit cycle oscillations of control surfaces leading to fatigue and divergent structural failure.
I had been going in the kettle and french press route for over a decade but I decided I'm too lazy and got a auto drip machine that grinds and everything. BREAKING In a statement, North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis announces he’s not running for re-election. “…As many of my colleagues have noticed over the last year, and at times even joked about, I haven’t exactly been excited about running for another term. That is true since the choice is between spending another six years navigating the political theatre and partisan gridlock in Washington or spending that time with the love of my life Susan, our two children, three beautiful grandchildren, and the rest of our extended family back home. France to Ban Public Smoking in Parks, Beaches and Near Schools ============== These countries always do this. This sort of thing originates in America, and it has some validity. Sitting in a restaurant or theater where a bunch of people are smoking is torture if don't smoke -- even if you do. Yeah, I use a cheapie Kureig (SP?) and refillable 'cups'. Had it for years and it's satisfactory. Every evening I brew a couple of cups into a insulated, sealed carafe. That way, in the a.m. I only have to decant a cup and nuke it. The coffee might not meet coffee snob standards, but I can't do a damn thing until I've had a cup in the morning, and this the easiest/fastest route. If I can stagger to the kitchen and pour off a cup, then in 30 sec. or so the will to live will return.

Resealable packaging? Finally a topic worthy of our brilliance.
I've noticed a dramatic quality collapse in such things. The designs are often excellent. I've enjoyed their convenience for years and years. Last few years, depending on brand and other things, suddenly, what? As noted by others - tear strips don't tear, or tear wrongly/ruining the whole set-up, or resealing lines don't reseal unless you take them to work bench and put on your magnifying headset and use tools to reseal them. Weird. I mention this and get the usual "what's wrong with you?" looks from some. But it's real, and it's spectacular. I don't even bother trying many times now, just cut open with scissors, move to a plastic container. Posted by: rhomboid at June 29, 2025 03:04 PM (1m82a) 195

I actually drink instant coffee, and in the hotel room situation my go-to is those little Folgers tubes.
As I understand it, freeze-dried coffee has already been “burned”, so it is fragile. Don’t use boiling water to reconstitute and it will taste better. Use a small amount of room temperature water, creamer, or even hooch to make a syrup first. Then add sweetener before the hot water. In the US, Hampton Inn always has free coffee in the lobby. I always wondered how those hotels with free breakfast crap in the lobby make sure that outsiders aren't coming in and helping themselves.
Can't be by remembering the appearance of the guests... it's not likely the same person would be manning the desk at breakfast time as when you checked in the previous afternoon/evening. On the other hand, the breakfast items in those places are usually pretty cheap -- rarely any meat. Maybe they've decided to just eat the cost of any freeloaders by tacking it on to their room rates. Holy crap, it just keeps coming.
Apparently the California Road Charge goes into effect on Tuesday as well. IOW, charging EV's by the mile to accommodate the taxes they lost from these people who no longer purchase gasoline. So, they raise the taxes significantly on gasoline....THEN start charging EV drivers by the mile to make up those taxes they are already slamming on ICE drivers. The explanation is hilarious: "Just like you pay your gas and electric bills based on how much of these utilities you use, a road charge - also called a mileage-based user fee - is a fair and sustainable way to fund road maintenance, preservation, and improvements for all Californians." I've only ever had the problem of which you speak when the hopper underneath is overly full of discards.

***I have no excuse, other than the difficulty of finding plain old cones!
----- Don't try. Take a cup cone, fold it in half. (now you have a flat line and a semi circle) Grab the middle of one half at the top of the semi-circle and fold it to the edge. Press the crease/fold and open the filter. You now have a cone filter. Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at June 29, 2025 04:26 PM (0BXdx) 357

=================== Of the various models, what worked best for us were BARLAS tunneled traps ... The critters usually journeyed the same path, and having two tunnels got them either coming or going ... Peppermint oil drizzled on woolen dryer balls (set inside small ceramic dishes) also works as a good repellant. Posted by: Kathy at June 29, 2025 04:30 PM (qpw89) 360

The pub I've been frequenting of late has smoked meats on the menu. I've been resisting because of cost but today I broke down and had a sausage and smoked potato salad--all delicious.
The sausage was cheese and jalapeno--nice and spicy. Posted by: Still lurking up north, read some, don't comment much at June 29, 2025 05:46 PM (kTd/k) Processing 0.07, elapsed 0.0656 seconds. |
