First World Problems...

NWSCrap.jpg

The idea that weather can be accurately predicted is amusing, since all of us have been bitten in the ass by the pretend-scientific forecasts of...pretty much every weather service. And let's not start on predicting climate!

But they can't even get it correct for the next 24 hours!

I grilled yesterday evening. And the weather reports enthusiastically parroted the 4% chance of rain nonsense.

They were wrong, and my uncovered grill got a soaking. It's not a crisis, or maybe it is, because I want to grill tonight, and I will have to heat the grill another 30 seconds to drive off the moisture left by the rain. And because the grill was uncovered it has some detritus from the garden on it, and that means a wipe-down!

THIS SHALL NOT STAND!

75 It has come to my attention that all plants in the Nightshade family produce berries. The sciences of botany, taxonomy, and evolutionary psychology have all congealed on this regrettable, indeed tragic, determination.

Of course, nobody minds being told the Deadly Nightshade produces berries, of course. Anyone can see those shiny little red things are berries.

But the Nightshade family also includes all the capsicum peppers, from the lowly Anaheim and Bell right up to the Carolina Reaper and beyond. Tomatoes, tomatillos, and even eggplants are all in the nightshade family.

Berries. All that shit is berries.

It gets worse. Potatoes and tobacco are also Nightshades. You'd think, no problem, we harvest the roots and the leaves of potatoes and tobacco respectively, so no berries involved. But there have to be berries, because Nightshades give berries. There are potato berries and tobacco berries, which is just the worst news ever.

It's like Pluto all over again.

It's interesting, because even the guys who don't buy Global Warming speak of the oceans rising about a foot per century. They say it's the tail end of the end of the last Ice Age.

But you're right - you see drawing and photos of coastlines long ago, and it's the SAME. Not several feet different. I remember seeing a drawing of an estate on the coast of England, hundreds of years ago, compared to today, and it was the SAME, not 3 or 4 feet higher.

So even THAT is BS.

And isn't it odd, with all these dire weather predictions and global warmening, Los Angeles didn't inspect its reservoirs or fund its fire department properly.

That's the trouble with intersectionality, everything is linear in the end.

That may not be how it is in geometry, but it's a fact of political math.

I put forth the idea that the natural ally of the United States in the event of an inevitable war with Japan in the Pacific would be Russia. This got me into much trouble with a lot of people.

That mid-air refueling clip over Iran said it all.

The abysmal performance of Iran's air defense systems against Israeli pilots armed with advanced U.S. technology, and the inability of Iran's domestic security service to detect and thwart the recent and ongoing Israeli operations against military leadership, have left the Islamic Republic strategically exposed to a greater degree than at any time since 1979.

It is no longer hyperbole to say that the near-term fate of the regime is a question for debate.

A generation of Iran's military leadership has been largely erased. Significant portions of Tehran's prized nuclear industry have been destroyed and will take many months, if not years, to rebuild. Tehran's leaders are aware of the fragile condition of their country and its unhappy people. These changes may offer opportunities for a new direction for Iran.

Iran's missile attacks on Israel allow it to demonstrate defiance, but do little to impact the outcome of this conflict. Indeed, the attacks could accelerate the demise of the regime in any Israeli retaliation.
