I swam with baby sea lions in Galapagos. Dozens of them swarming around me. Super cute. They are very playful in ways the adults aren’t. They seem to think you can swim as well as they can. They’re like “follow me” as they dart off at speeds and with underwater agility that’s far beyond anything a human could ever do.

Zeus lives in California. His owners spoil him outrageously, so he's an ill-disciplined teenager. They were shocked when Her Majesty, who was grooming him, made it clear to Zeus that she wasn't going to put up with his shenanigans. What they don't realize is that dogs are perfectly happy knowing their place. And as a show dog, you damn well better know your place. We will spent sweat, time and money on them, but when they're in the ring when their handler tells them to jump, they need to ask how high. Baby sea lions are usually safe when left on the beach. But the moment of truth comes when they first have to venture in the water to hunt for themselves. They’re young, small, and inexperienced. As many as half of them are taken by marine predators. In Galapagos, it’s the sharks. I saw it. Very sad to watch.

Haven't gone to movies in many years, don't have Netflix, occasionally get a DVD from the library. Must have seen an MI movie in the last 10 years, certainly on a long int'l flight, almost only time I see new movies.
Anyway, my impression is that Cruise works his a** off, does his own stunts (including pretty hairy ones), treats his actors and crew well, and stays in his lane (no political profile, think he cut off political questions at a recent PR event for the new MI movie). All while making harmless empty-calorie fun action flicks. So my potentially uninformed position is that he's what Hollywood needs a LOT more of. 115 Actors looking too old in war movies. Hold on, Skip. During WW2, a lot of people looked a helluva lot older (by today's standards). I had a picture of my Dad's gang at Camp Ritchie, MD and they all looked like they would be in their mid thirties today. Most were in their early twenties. My Old Man was probably the Old Man at 30. Flash forward, pictures of my gang in Vietnam look like 19 year old surf bums.

I agree. I have no idea if half the stuff I've heard about him are true or BS but he seems like a pretty nice guy. Recently saw an old interview done by Matt Lauer with Tom Cruise about all of the drugs being given kids for supposed psychological problems and not only did Cruise come off as very well informed and intelligent he absolutely clobbered Lauer for being uniformed and irresponsible. Molly Ephraim, who played the super-cute middle daughter on Last Man Standing the sitcom, is 39 now, and was 25 playing a 17-year-old when that show started in '11. All the "teenagers" on the original 90210 were over 18 when they were cast, too.
It's like the old theatre saying: An actress should never play Juliet until she's too old to play the role. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius On the other hand, Mila Kunis got her spot as a teenager on That 70's Show when she was 14. The producers wanted 18 year olds, and she told them she'd be 18 "on her birthday." The producers filled in the word "next," but Mila didn't say that. Battening down the hatches here as the Bottlerock Festival roars into the Napa CA area over the three-day weekend. Holiday traffic becomes even worse around the morning start and night-time finish. We will hole up, fly the American flag, and not go anywhere until the madness vacates the region.

Speaking of actors being older than their characters: Cole Hauser was the big redheaded jock in Dazed and Confused. I thought, this dude looks like he's 30.
Turns out he was still a teenager. WTF?! I hated guys like him when I was in high school. I looked like Mitch from Real Genius, without the smarts. Posted by: Pug Mahon at May 23, 2025 09:49 PM (0aYVJ) Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at May 23, 2025 09:49 PM (jGeiA) 186
In the past read many comments from SoCal shooters who had competed with/been around K. Reeves at shooting events. All intel is that he's totally normal, very into guns, and friendly. This aligns with Jim's comment above about him getting along well with his armorers on movies.

This weekend one full day will be spent visiting cemeteries, not only my relations but some others never met but always remembered.
I will do this until no longer physically capable. Posted by: IRONGRAMPA at May 23, 2025 09:56 PM (hKoQL) 188
