AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update. Prayer Requests: 4/12 – Ben Had sent an update on Jim SND. He had surgery to implant a feeding tube, and he hopes to go home soon.
5/6 Update – Jim SND passed away. Please pray for God’s comfort for his wife. 4/14 – Grateful – the range bag lady posted: T-Rex’s mother, MommaRex, was rushed to the hospital over the weekend and was diagnosed with Parkinsons. The family is asking for prayers for God’s strength in dealing with the disease and challenging family situation.
5/1 Update – TRex and Grateful thank the Horde for their prayers for Mamma Rex. She is doing better and is entering a lovely assisted living apartment this weekend. They thank God for His lovgin ways, and the Horde for all of their prayers. 4/15 – Salty Dog requested prayers for his wife, who underwent triple-bypass open heart surgery on 4/9. Her recovery will be a steep uphill climb to the uplands of better health.
4/20 Update – Mrs. Salty Dog (Linda) passed away on Easter. Salty Dog said our prayers were answered, as she passed quickly, without pain or struggle, under the comfort of good drugs. Her last complaint was that the lights were so bright. (This was after he had closed the blinds and made the room as dark as possible.) Easter is the answer. 4/15 – Matthew Kant Cipher asked for prayers for “Dee”, an 88 year-old who has been caring for her quadriplegic son, who was injured in a car accident when he was 17. Dee had a couple of people helping her take care of him, but they are no longer able to do so. Now she is having to care for him herself, while still working as a receptionist for a local meat processing company. Please pray that the Lord provides for her and her son. 4/16 – TecumsehTea requested prayers for a grandson, age 15. The grandson had been sick with a fever and headache since 4/13, and took a turn for the worse. He was taken to the ER on 4/16.
5/3 Update – Her grandson is feeling much better. It was a particularly bad spell with Lyme disease. Thank you all for the prayers. 4/19 – Eromero posted his praise for God for healing, comforting, and blessing our brothers and sisters here. He is always with us, even if we are too stressed to feel his presence. 4/22 – FenelonSpoke requested prayers for M, who sometimes fills in as the organist. He has to have vein surgery on his feet, and he needs to have his feet work well to play the organ pedals. Also, prayers for J, who is having a stent put in her heart.
5/10 Update – Thanks so much for the prayers. J’s heart surgery was successful and she is now in rehab. M’s surgery on his foot was successful, as well. 4/23 – Trudy asked for prayers for her husband, Bill, who is having persistent pain that may well be heart-related.
4/26 Update – Trudy and Bill sent their thanks for the prayers. He had suffered a moderate heart attack. He received 3 stents, and came home on 4/26. They are very thankful for their 54 years together, and are delighted that there will be more! They have been truly uplifted by the prayers. 4/25 – MkY sent thanks for the prayers for his wife Judy, and asked for continued prayers. She has stage IV renal cancer. The tumors have shrunk, but not significantly. Every ER visit has been related to pain management, and it has not been going well. Please pray for help with the pain, and for MkY – that he can be strong and steady even though he feels helpless.
5/3 Update – Thanks again for all the prayers. Judy’s tumors are shrinking. The oncologist is “encouraged”, so that bleeds over into Judy’s attitude and is encouraging. The palliative care team believes that most of the pain is not cancer-related, so they have prescribed some alternatives. She now rarely takes the oxycodone. 4/26 – Commissar Hrothgar asked for prayers for his elderly sister-in-law, Elizabeth, and her battle with a persistent foot infection, and for blessings on her church friends that are helping her in so many ways! 4/26 – Bif gave an update on Smash. Her abdominal issues are getting closer to full diagnosis. They are waiting on some specialists. She will probably need some surgery to fix what the MRI radiologists say is a necessary repair. Also, she has cataract surgery coming up. 4/26 – Oddbob requested prayers for his daughter’s MIL, Elaine, who was diagnosed with ALS this week. 4/26 – John the River asked for prayers. His girlfriend and partner of the last 10 years passed away suddenly and without warning on Easter Sunday. He went to her house with dinner and found her on the bedroom floor. Her name was Marsha. 4/26 – L asked for prayers for R, her granddaughter. 4/27 – NemoMeImpuneLacessit would appreciate prayers, for laparoscopy surgery on 4/27. 4/27 – Teresa in Fort Worth sent an update with great news – all of her tumors have shrunk by half! The plan now is to continue on this chemotherapy medication until it stops working; no idea how long that might be. When that does happen, they will look at whether or not surgery can be done. (Right now, it cannot, due to the fact that there are multiple tumors.) The surgeon did say that her response to chemo has been “dramatic”, and he is “cautiously optimistic” that surgery will be an option in the future. Her case and the good response to the medication has been extremely rare – such a blessing. 4/30 – “…” posted that she could use some prayers for her good friend Emm, who is starting five months of chemo, followed hopefully by surgery, then radiation. 5/3 – D asked for prayers for his wife, Susan, who has been having some issues. They went to the hospital on 5/1, and all the signs are pointing to pancreatic cancer. They meet with other doctors on 5/5. Any prayers would be a blessing.
5/14 Update – Susan is having less pain now. Thank you for the prayers. 5/8 - Don Draper asked for prayers for his wife. They lost their Kelpie companion on 5/7 due to complications from lymphoma. His wife is devastated. 5/8 – Backwoods Willy requested prayers for a partner church of theirs in Pakistan. One of the initial strikes by India was very close to the church and the pastor’s home. Ongoing shelling is nearby. Please pray for the Lord’s protection for Pastor S, his family, and his church. 5/10 – Cosda asked for prayers for his wife, who recently had a mole removed that came back as melanoma cancer. She is scheduled for surgery next week, and it looks like that should remove it completely. 5/11 – Ciampino sent his thanks for the prayers. He was injured by a cat scratch that caused a lot more bleeding than he realized was happening. He also ended up with sepsis and septic shock, and in critical condition. He was treated with IV antibiotics, 5 units of blood, and steroids. He also got his first helicopter ride, as he was transferred from one hospital to another for care.

Previously it had lengthy section on historically long use as a term meaning eliminate, kill, murder, assassinate... The whole section on "Law Enforcement" is gone too.
Now it just means "we are out of the Kung Pao Chicken".

Mom got to come home from stroke rehab yesterday. I'll be moving in with her during the week to help her out, and commuting back home on the weekends. Could hurt or help my marriage--potential either way. Hoping Mr. Dmlw! is able to cope without being self-destructive.

I'm kind of curious now as to if there is a current arrangement of shells with the added date difference. I also would like to know how commemorating that date via sea shells became a Common Tradition.

If Bondi isn't prosecuting, it's because Trump doesn't want her to. Why I don't know. I can only speculate this is part of the conciliatory approach takes so often. Even when it isn't warranted, like with Iran.

Hope those are going well.
Had my own cancer checkup yesterday. Cancer has become sticky, so my treatment is keeping it in check, but I can't quite get my lymphocyte blood numbers to a normal range (so I also cannot do the expensive tests to see if it's remission - I mean, since it's not in normal range, it's probably not remission...but it would be nice to know).
That said, other than a slightly "squishy" foot, I feel fine, so we're keeping on with the treatment and 3 more months.
For the record, my ALC is 5.4K (down from 5.8K in Jan and the same as Apr), but you need to be under 3.75K before they even theoretically check for remission. And right now, they are "stuck"...but better stuck that regrowing, so I'll take the single, and not the home run.

5/11 – Ciampino sent his thanks for the prayers. He was injured by a cat scratch that caused a lot more bleeding than he realized was happening. He also ended up with sepsis and septic shock, and in critical condition. He was treated with IV antibiotics, 5 units of blood, and steroids. He also got his first helicopter ride, as he was transferred from one hospital to another for care.

Happy Saturday, one and all. So a few months ago, I sprained my knee from falling off some stairs. Basically, I was not looking and was not at the end of the steps as I thought.
The pain had receded to a more manageable level and I was hoping that I was on the road to recovery. Well, this Monday it decided to act as if all the healing meant nothing. A bit annoying to say the least.

); red blood cell count (RBC) and haemoglobin levels; the sepsis cleared up. I was sent home with a 10-day course of two potent antibiotics (oral) even after all the intravenous stuff in the hospital. The haemoglobin and RBC are still a bit low.
I bought a thank you card to send to those wonderful nurses.

I got Mr. Dmlw! to watch it with me. We've been watching it every night for a couple of weeks now. I go to bed after a couple of episodes, but he'll stay up half the night binge watching. He can't get enough of it. I think he's having a conversion experience. I hope it leads him to a healing of his heart and soul.

Prayer request: Inspector had a stressful week two weeks ago which caused his back to start spasming. Then we traveled to a conference, he had to walk a lot the first half of the week carrying a heavy bag, and we traveled back. This has badly irritated the torn rotator cuff that had been nearly healed. Prayers for endurance, healing, and rest (because he slept horribly at the conference due to the pain) would be greatly appreciated.

Prayers up for my leafy college town, which still looks like a war zone after Thursday night's storm. We lost power around midnight while sheltering in the basement as the tornado sirens wailed. The lightning was amazing.
After the all clear, the grandkids and my daughter made beds in our room and I lot some candles to serve as nightlights. Yesterday morning I got up early to start the generator, only to see that the hose to the LPG tank had cracked. Well, it was 13 years old. So I called the manufacturer about replacement parts, got some numbers for local servicers, but none work with propane. In the end I shopped around for a new generator and found one at Home Depot that is dual use - gas or LPG. I went with the LPG mode and by noon it was up and running the fridge, freezer and sump pump were running.
Driving around there were roads blocked, live wires and traffic lights were out. Estimation for power restoration was initially Wednesday, but as more trucks rolled in it kept moving up and we were naturally delighted when it came back in the early evening. Our family said a Hail Mary and praised God for all the blessings we had.

Throughout the whole episode, I felt a strong sense that there was a purpose in who things proceeded and a call to get our house in better order. At no point did I or anyone else feel upset (well, as the day got hot we did look longingly at our motionless ceiling fans), in part because we all knew things could have been much worse. Lots of branches and trees came down, and some did considerable damage. We got off very lightly.
I think episodes like this are put there to remind us how blessed we are every day. How wonderful to throw a switch and get light or have your house "automatically" keep itself warm or cool at your direction.
And then it all stops, and you have manually lift the garage door, and carry a flashlight into interior rooms. We normally order pizza on Friday, but going forward we were going to have to start load balancing to get the microwave or toaster in use. And then things went back to normal.

Sorta serious inquiry. WTF is mushroom coffee I see advertised on TV? Is it supposed to help mushrooms wake up in the morning? Does it involve actual coffee beans? If caffeine is the problem, why not just drink decaf? And is there a subtle point about using a known gay actor as the spokesman?

and I hate that the reason we have it is because our queer governor's side piece is an animal rights fetishist and they are just indulging each other's kinks while they dance around the Governor's mansion in their feathers and glitter

Doggeh question for Hadrian
Short version: can impending thunderstorms cause doggeh nausea plus excited play?
Details: Yesterday morning doggeh had evidence of overnight throw up, only ate the topper off his breakfast, threw that up, did not want to eat
BUT wanted to play AND kept trying to hump (he knows he's not allowed to do)
I ignored him until he went to sleep. In the meantime a big thunderstorm rolled through which also gave me a migraine.
When doggeh woke he seemed better, though I was still careful to keep him calm and just feed small meals.
Anyway, it obviously could be caused by anything but I was wondering if one possibility was a sort of GI migraine caused by the weather?

After living through several hurricanes, I installed a switch box and a NG generator and made it part of my plan for any subsequent house. Wide ranging major storms can leave an area without power for a while, and it feels like forever.

The folks in Somerset, KY could some prayers. They were hit by not one, but two tornados last night. It's being described as a "mass casualty event."
Several other areas were also hit by tornados. One went through part of downtown St. Louis. Others hit MO, IN and of course, here in KY.
Might end up being one of the larger "outbreaks" on record for the number of tornados. It was an ugly storm.

Medivac helicopter: not fun. Bad if you are claustrophobic (me).
You are strapped onto a very narrow stretcher - legs at ankles and thighs, lower and upper torso. Arms free but limited.
This stretcher fits into a slot inside the copter, right up against, and parallel to a door. Feet are where a second pilot might sit? Head is just in front of the accompanying crew seats - 2 across. Almost like a small torpedo tube but without the tube. Hemmed in!! Somebody remembered to put noise-protection headphones on me but not too well and a little late. I couldn't get my arms up to adjust them - yes, that tight.
About 18" from the face at waist level, is a plexiglass partition, use unknown but adds to discomfort. I see my feet through this.
Fortunately it was only a 45 minute ride.

I had my physical recently and some of the blood test results were not great. Not terrible at least, but they do require some major changes in diet. I'd appreciate prayer for wisdom and discernment in creating a food plan that works for the entire family's various needs, as well as the ability to make healthy choices on a long-term basis.

I'm back from washing the car and then me. Currently listening to a classic Casey Kasem from May 1981. Up now, Sheena Easton's "(My Baby Takes the) Morning Train." Miss Linda and I are going to venture to the suburban Whole Foods -- she has coupons -- and then World Market, a good run for the big Buick.
We have one more episode of the current season of All Creatures Great and Small to watch . . . and I got Caddyshack from the library too. A shame for me to admit it, but I have never seen it all the way through. I doubt Miss Linda will find it funny. I was laughing out loud a bunch of times when the Angelica Huston/Raul Julia Addams Family was on a while back. She hardly cracked a smile.

You can stream pretty much anything you want commercial free.
I guess my viewing habits aren't exactly mainstream, but I mainly consume YouTube content. And I pay $13 a month to Google (I know) so I never have to watch or even skip a commercial.
Yes, if I stream a live sports event I'll have to endure some commercials, but that's a rarity.

Cats are a whole lot easier when can make them inside-outside; no litter box for one thing, very little scratching since they take their aggression out on the world, not your house. Of course that comes with its own problems and doesn’t work everywhere. Currently ours has been AWOL for about a day, but he does that at least once a week, so I try not to get too concerned.

I have looked into mushrooms and if one wants to take them as supplements, it is best to make sure the supplement is from the caps of the mushrooms, not just the stalks. Apparently all mushroom stalks are pretty much alike, it's the underside of the caps where the er magic is

Thanks for the explanation. I really had no idea what the point of mushroom coffee was.
Out of curiosity, if you can't have coffee (shudders), can you drink tea of some kind? Regular or herbal? The idea of not having a tasty hot drink to sip in the morning is so ingrained in me it's hard to imagine skipping it.

I am one of the many crowd funders for Angel Studios, who started The Chosen, and several other great movies and shows. I thought it was a great idea and still do. I get to see previews of proposed projects and vote on whether to go forward with production. One of the latest was Bonhoffer, about the Lutheran pastor who stood up to the Nazis.

There were a few episodes of The Chosen that I thought were well done (in particular, the woman at the well) but after watching most of seasons 1-3 I decided it wasn’t for me… it doesn’t hew closely enough to scripture for my liking and the extra-biblical additions make that Jesus out to be something less than the Son of God (the great I Am) IMHO

177 Cats are a whole lot easier when can make them inside-outside; no litter box for one thing, very little scratching since they take their aggression out on the world, not your house. Of course that comes with its own problems and doesn’t work everywhere. Currently ours has been AWOL for about a day, but he does that at least once a week, so I try not to get too concerned.

OK. I shoulda submitted this but it's been a hell of a week.
I've had a growth on the right side of my face for years. It grew slowly over time, but the past two years...it's about 10 cm now. I'm scheduled for surgical removal on June 20...and depending on how the biopsy comes back, some lymph nodes may also need to go, and as you can guess if that's the case there will likely be other considerations.
This on top of STILL not having my housing issues resolved...STILL not making enough to support myself on...and other health issues of late...I mean, toss another hassle on the pile, but I feel about to break at this stage.
Prayers deeply appreciated, and yes I'll try to submit this properly for next time.

Question for the Horde.
My mother has recently been diagnosed with dementia. It's recent, as in like three days ago. She seemed fine just a couple of months ago whenever I talked to her on the phone. But I had noticed her slowing way down when speaking and in the past month she'd be unable to recall names, stumble over words or stop mid sentence seemingly unable to complete a thought.
I was starting to suspect something was wrong. She's 76, in bad shape (she's been bedridden and in and out of the hospital since August) and hard of hearing (conversations are always difficult). When I called her on Thursday and she told me she was at my uncle's house in East Texas (she lives with my brother and his family in San Antonio) it was...bizarre. Talked with my SIL and she straight up told me she's got dementia.
Now Alzheimer's does not run in her family so this is interesting.
But anyway, I'm told she still recognizes everyone but she isn't always sure where she is. She's showing sundowner behavior so she's more alert in the mornings. No danger of her getting lost, she's bedridden.
So does anyone have experience with this? What can I expect? Damn character limi

The few 'modern' shows and movies, none recent, I would enjoy we have on DVD.

Try Mate if you can tolerate it. It has an alternate form of caffeine in it.
My wife drinks Korean barley tea, which is basically Pero jbut much cheaper, and I would do the first pot of water on it straight and then add dried apples to it for the second batch of boiling water
I will also do lemon balm and catnip, but the big tomcat pays too much attention to me when I drink that.

Went through it with dad for his last two years. Some days will be better than others. Be ready for her to be come..."unfiltered" from time to time, probably more and more over time. Barring medical breakthroughs this is a one-way trip. Whoever will be looking after her is signing up for the hardest duty a child can ever be asked to fulfill for a parent; it should be done with love, patience, and as much grace as can be managed.

He was injured by a cat scratch that caused a lot more bleeding than he realized was happening. He also ended up with sepsis and septic shock, and in critical condition. He was treated with IV antibiotics, 5 units of blood, and steroids. He also got his first helicopter ride, as he was transferred from one hospital to another for care.

My uncle's wife, bless her soul, in her last couple of years would have bouts of dementia when had a UTI. But she also had leukemia at the end.

It will get worse and do so on an uneven basis, depending on what kind she has. My father-in-law seemed to have "steps" where he would be stable and consistent and then take a stop down and lose more function and memory, but then level off again.
My stepmother, by contrast, seems to be slowly but steadily moving into a vegetative state where she just sits there or sleeps. After two years of decline my father finally had to put her in a residential facility - theoretically for rehab - but she was quickly moved to hospice, which is going better for her.
My father calls regularly with updates and to chat, and while there are a few good days, no one gets better in hospice. I think a major contributor was the Covid - not necessarily the shot, but the total lack of social activity for someone who was very busy and outgoing.

Probably most important imo is that she have someone (doesn't have to be the same someone) with her every day.
Even when are faculties go, just having a caring person nearby is the best comfort.
Also on the positive side - so much research these days on dementia that your family can look into.

Kristi Noem said in an interview that the matter is really within the Secret Service's purview to handle and that, in her opinion, Comey should go to prison. Some other Trump supporters, both inside the administration and out have said the same thing.
I think there's a real concern that putting any former regime politico in prison is going to kick off a wave of violent retribution.

Speaking of that, in my area it is very common for folks to have medical transport insurance that covers helo fees that are above what medicare will pay.
We don't have any level 1 trauma centers within our county - or surrounding counties for that matter.
The helo ride can easily cost $40,000 to get your sorry ass to somewhere that can but you back together.

214 Robert, I'm sorry that your mother is going through that. My father passed away in December after a long, slow decline that accelerated in the last few months. The best I can say is to remain patient with increasingly difficult and hard to understand behaviorial changes and to accept that there's not any return from Alzheimers. In Dad's case, he was completely checked out by the time passed. Anyway, a tough situation.

I like the barley best of the alternatives, but it seems associated with my recent weight gain. I liked coffee because it was opaque, bitter, cheap, easy, and my main source of calcium and vitamin D (since I added milk). There just isn't anything that replaces all those points, especially without adding a lot of sugar.

LP gas parts?
Your local "RV World" is your best bet.
My old house house had no natural gas in the area so I piped it for LP. Easy because it had a crawlspace. Most all LP specific fittings (the supply side) I got from the camping stores.
The best part was the automatic switchover between tanks. Set up with one 100# and 20# as the reserve tank.

My MIL lives with daughter and FIL. They presently have maybe 6 tvs. they get a new one about every 7 months or trade them among the family. Theres at least 4 on all the time. Its like a nursing home, they keep it at about 80 degrees, horrible to visit. They gave my daughter one and it slid off the dresser on top of her, older one about 70 lbs. MIL has very bad short term memory, can't remember last meal, always complaining nobody gives her food. 5 minutes asks the same questions .VOTED BIDEN.

You would have to be drinking a whole lot of coffee to get enough vit d. Take vitamin d with calcium to aid absorption. Barley is calorie dense, so while an excellent grain, it can add more calories than you realize.
Is the issue caffeine or actual coffee beans? If inflammation is the issue, maybe consider tumeric tea. You can add milk to this as well, it’s actually great with unsweetened vanilla almond milk for less sugar and calories than dairy.
