Speaking of the midnight sun, I stumbled on a hilarious video about a trip to Antarctica someone put together. For flat earthers. They thought you couldn't go to Antarctica.

I am not addressing him as a singular, "y'all" means I'm asking about a group he's with, usually his family, but it could be another group, his work crew, etc.

Another one is "all y'all" or "y'all all". That implies unanimity.

Now, it may be my 29 year old brain mis-remembering, but for my formative years in Allegheny County, it was pronounced "younz", which made its derivation obvious: you-uns contracted tightly..
You-uns is a southern term, heard through West Virginia, and down the Appalachian highlands of Virginia and the Piedmont and up into southern Kentucky. Its derivation, of course is obvious: you ones, a sort of grammatical adaption to try to establish a distinct plural form of "you".

(autopilot. astronauts hate it...they want to fly the crate and have little opportunity to do so (none when there are no rendezvous and/or docking ops on a mission)...the space shuttle orbiter was designed with the capability to auto-land but the commanders refused to use it...my memory is fuzzy but i think the astronaut office actually got the shuttle program to disable the auto-land software routine or delete it from the flight software altogether...anyway auto-landing was never used for an orbiter landing)

229 My journey home started Tuesday, and I was making excellent time until I got to Nevada. There had been a fatal wreck between a motorcycle and a semi at Railroad Pass on I-11 northbound, and traffic was backed up to beyond the US 95 interchange. I managed to drive up the shoulder and get on 95, but took a chance on going north, hoping to bypass the closure, but no dice. And I could not make a U=turn and head south to Searchlight, because the southbound lanes were jammed solid, too. Ended up going through Boulder City, back onto 93, most of the way back to Kingman, then onto the highway to Loughlin, then to Needles, and worked my way up to I-15. Hit Vegas at about 11:30, and went on to Mesquite, getting there at 2:00 AM.

This was on the way in. After my scan, we talked about it a bit more. Ankles, knees, lower leg injuries.

It sort of makes sense. Lots of older, not recently active, or never active, or not very athletic people taking it up. Easy to see lots of foot/ankle/knee problems.

Couple of years ago saw an ortho after a shoulder thing (hockey) wouldn't go away (it did eventually). He confirmed that he/his kind are seeing large numbers of people injured falling off electric scooters. He volunteered the observation that so many young people today are not just obese, but unathletic and uncoordinated.

By now there are only weak spots in the defense. Defense is pretty much only in villages, so the Russians dash to the border of one and dig in, or bypass it between villages. When one is cut off, they assault the demoralized men with low ammo and food.

In the rare cases now when a strongpoint is too tough, they have FABs that can incinerate a village or town block

I think much of the methodical nature is just logistics. Roads are poor and a large convoy can still be taken out by Ukraine drones, so they use more subtle methods to get supplies to support the next set of advances. After a few weeks to a month, they swap out units to rest.

I’ve been thinking this, too. Drones are like the WWII-equivalent of tanks of this war. They’ve completely transformed the landscape. From what I’ve followed, there’s nothing the US has that can counter this over a massive front. If we were in Ukraine we’d probably end up dodging drones and bootstrapping a drone industry.

264 Oldcat, probably, in some locations. Not here (San Diego). Tennis has been big forever, and there's an abundance of public athletic facilities that typically get lots of use. Fair number of good pools, as you'd expect, but I'm thankful for one bizarre development. Young people (unless on swim or water polo teams) just don't swim (laps) any more. Growing up, the pools were very crowded and busy. I'm especially happy that even college kids don't swim much now, as I use a spectacular college pool and haven't shared a lane in years. And the hot coeds on the deck pursuing skin cancer are a nice mood-setting thing before and after workouts.

They know that part of the country is underlain by rocks that are "prospective" for rare earths because a few mineral occurrences have been found. No mines or actual reserves, as far as I know. All he can really "sell" is an exploration concession, but the buyer has to do all the heavy lifting to find and develop any potential mines.

And "political risk" is a huge factor in mineral and oil exploration; even in "stable" jurisdictions like Canada or the USA.

Z is kind of caught there. His nazi stormtrooper units are the strongest part of the armed forces and some are defending Kiev. They won't let him wander far from inflexible terms. They might also be willing to chase him down post war and interrupt his retirement

At some point total defeat or the army evaporating will let Russia occupy the area they want - my guess is to the Dnepr, Odessa, and Kharkov at a minimum, possibly Kiev too and a buffer zone to keep the successor states from shelling dams on the river or the nuke plant. The rest will be split into small chunks, some protected by Russia, some eaten by NATO countries, perhaps a true Ukraine to join NATO for stupid symbolic reasons. Then the EU can pretend they won.

304 I don't think there is a "deal" that will bring peace to Ukraine other than surrender, and the current country gets carved up along ethnic lines. Russia gets the east and south, including Odessa.
Poland, Romania, and Hungary get chunks of the west.
New Ukraine will be about the size of Ohio, with a Russian-controlled government. Its army will just be a heavily armed police force, which will be kept busy dealing with Banderite extremists.
This will be a very bitter pill for the US and the EU to swallow, but anything short of that will just mean more butchery in another 10 years or so.

Yeah, there was an announcement of that, snuck in in haste, with a 100 year timeline...tho England can back out in a few weeks.

A British commentator i follow who has been pretty wise these last 4 years or so was very dismissive of it - it has almost no details of what is covered, any terms or details that all real treaties point out in full. I judge it as a stunt that failed, and if push comes to shove Trump will get them to drop it or cut them in for some marginal part.

329 Oldcat I don't think you need to be corrected, Russkis have both air-delivered HE and fuel-air ordnance, both have been used. FAB = HE, fuel-air transliteration would be ODAB.

The ODAB uses I have seen (some time ago) were in open areas, or above forest belts, with Uke forces deployed there. FAB strikes seem pretty common, and as originally noted by you or Idaho Spud the Russian solution to a prickly village defense is to either go around or erase part of the village with a FAB.

I personally have benefited from the Russian practice you mention (rarely getting rid of military gear, but storing it away "just in case"). My oldest Mosin-Nagant rifle turned 100 this year. But I think most of the Mosins (and ammo) that came out prior to 2014 (when they sort of stopped) actually came out of warehouses in Ukraine.

They'll check my EF (ejection fraction), the ability of my heart to pump blood. Normal range is 60-70%; about 10 years ago I was at 32, which means my heart is about 50% normal power. (For all the complaints, I'm not alive without modern medicine.) Then they'll inject dye contrast, to compare.

It's weird. I've been told by so many I've met since I've had the heart attack that, for me, salt is poison.

Cooking at home is the only way I can avoid the high salt foods, frozen, canned, prepared, whatever.

When I watch (or used to watch as they don't exist anymore) cooking shows, the amount of salt used in a dish would gag me. I mean handfuls. I season with salt lightly, just to bring out the other flavors.

My one rebellious act are salt bagels. Sorry, Doc(s).

I think a small percentage of people react badly to magnesium citrate supplements, so the powers that be cracked down on them a while back.) But I also have used it in combination with other things (potassium, manganese), so maybe I am overestimating its individual contribution.
