The New York Times Hides the Socialist Party Registration of the Pennsylvania Governor's Mansion Arsonist from Its Readers

While Balmer's Facebook profile also reportedly contains posts and comments lauding the Black Lives Matter movement and claiming that he's a "registered socialist," The New York Times highlighted posts of his criticizing former President Joe Biden, ignoring ones recognizant of left-leaning politics. "Mr. Balmer's social media suggested not a particular ideology so much as a deep cynicism, in some posts espousing a libertarian bent bordering on anarchism, in others praising violence. His Facebook posts included rants about big pharma, women and the government," the outlet wrote. The New York Times did note Balmer exhibited "little sign of any loyalty to any party," but omitted coverage of his posts praising BLM and admitting to socialism. Some social media users speculated Balmer's apparently self-admitted socialism was simply sarcasm. One such tongue-in-cheek example is a post in which Balmer claimed to have received 27 mail-in ballots. "The post in which he says he's a socialist, if you actually read it, is clearly sarcastic," Facebook user "Mary Pratt" wrote in response to a post highlighting his apparent confession. There are, however, other signs pointing towards Balmer's apparent left-leaning radicalism, including a post touting Molotov cocktails, an incendiary device which he allegedly used to set fire to Shapiro's home, according to the complaint. The post displayed a picture of a flaming bottle with the caption, "Be the light you want to see in the world." While the Molotov cocktail has been used by agitators and protesters linked to both political wings, in recent years it has become a calling card for radical leftists linked with Antifa. Other left-leaning media figures have also excluded key context surrounding Balmer's apparently left-linked political posts. "The man being charged with attempted murder, and aggravated arson of Governor Shapiro is Cody Balmer. He has had anti-Biden posts on social media. Another right-wing extremist? MAGA? Hopefully he gets life in prison," left-wing social media creator Ed Krassenstein posted on X.Trump bought into the first round of first reports, echoing the media's claims that the antifa/BLM arsonist was "just a wackjob" who wasn't attached to either party. I hope he'll be correcting that. Never, ever believe the media -- about anything. When I first mentioned this, I assumed this was a failed case of arson, with this antifa/BLM socialist terrorist merely hitting the exterior walls of the mansion with Molotov cocktails. Nope -- it was serious case of arson. Antifa and BLM have no useful skills, but they are very good at burning buildings.

I know someone who was involved in another state's rehab system. As in went to rehab. He said it was the most pathetic thing you'd ever see because people are there to get help, and they want to get help, and they are in a place in their lives where they can go one of two ways, and the rehab facility couldn't care less because if they get you off the drugs or alcohol then you might not return for another $5000+ visit.
Perverse incentive, I believe it's called.
I have no doubt that's how all of these systems work. The people that get paid to "help" the poor and sick can't drastically help the poor and sick or else they won't have a job next year.

I consider DOGE to actually be quite moderate, perhaps even soft-left leaning. Making government more efficient and better run is not libertarian in nature. Smaller is part of it is good, but the goal seems more about making the government more clearly aligned with its mission, not to dismantle it.

Who you calling a queery? I thought Hitchhiker's Guide was hilarious, the sequels less so. I thought Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency was hilarious, the sequel considerably less so.
P.S. I've been watching Dirk Gently, the 2012 Brit TV series, and am quite enjoying joying it. Rather reminds me of Psyche but more mean spirited. The plot is more a variation of the book than a retelling. Like the books, you must do two opposite things to enjoy it. You must check your brain at the door and use your intelligence to figure out what's going on.

Yes, digestible, fun, and real page turners.
I read the first book in a day, it gets across in a little over 200 pages what some writers take 1000's of pages and still don't come close.

I'd put it as static versus dynamic. The US is one of the few that even have checks on power. Romans, too, but that was evolved over time to give the dictator (for when times are too critical for chatter) and tribune (when the elites go too far)

I have a Chinese woman that married into my family directly from the mainland. She's always a treat to talk to at family reunions. She had similar views initially. But, it seemed to be based in a natural curiosity of something other than the mundane. China is extremely mundane. And, additionally, you don't hear about it much, but the Black Market in China is thriving in every single province. Acquiring a good amount of money goes a long way into changing the mundane and creating few "peasants" of the Little Red Book brigade ever see...luxury. I went to China one time. Walking down the street (a 6'5" white guy) in Shanghai was a definite departure from the mundane. I had a group of about 20 people following me everywhere staring.
