First World Problems...

Weasel is up to his old tricks...causing trouble with his catastrophic choice of container closing system.

Twist_clip2025.jpg

I know, I know, the choice is obvious. The clip is the only way to go, because the twist-tie fails spectacularly when reused. Look at the one he uses... the damned thing could take out an eye!

But real men...men who think John Moses Browning was an effete poseur because he didn't design a .50 ACP... use binder clips!

1 By using two differently sized binder clips, one can build an office-expedient weapon capable of flinging the smaller clip several cubicals in distance, and depending on the size of the binder clips available, can cause distinct welts, even through office casual clothing.

Posted by: Kindltot at April 20, 2025 02:02 PM (D7oie)

2 Bread bag clips can be cut in half, leaving two identical pieces that can be flung by the index finger, much in the way that a shirukin can be flung, though with much less damage when they hit.

3 The plastic clips that Walmart brand baked goods use for their packaging fail after 2-3 uses, so they aren't perfect. I wonder if they import their clips from China.

Posted by: Chairman LMAO at April 20, 2025 02:05 PM (LPS7w)

4 the only use I have found for the twist ties is to bind up earbud cables, and various types of cords in a vain attempt to keep them from tangling.

otherwise they are relegated to tying up droopy tomato starts (to a single chop stick preferably) or possibly for flossing a fork, should that become important.

Posted by: Kindltot at April 20, 2025 02:05 PM (D7oie)

5 The giant plastic clips that come on some brands of bagged potatoes are useful for securing bundled up phone cords. They are a tad small for decent quality CAT-5 cable, though. I wound up using strips torn off of old shirts instead.

Posted by: Kindltot at April 20, 2025 02:07 PM (D7oie)

6 @4 The plastic covered ones that come with electronics hold up better than the paper covered ones that come with bread bags.

7 possibly for flossing a fork, should that become important.

I do have a garden fork. I also have the neatest japanese hoe you've never tried.
Stainless steel, sharp. Angled so when you pull, you cut as deeply as you want. Turn it on its side, and make a nice thin furrow for seeds.
I'll see if I can find a pic.

FWP: Now will have to make Easter brunch for the next 25 years b/c everyone asked for a return next year. Threw it together with 2 days notice, but apparently, I should try less hard next time to get less work.

Oh well - at least I still don't cook on Christmas. And I admit, it's nice to have a new holiday tradition as the kids have aged.

PS - It did lead to the interesting situation yesterday when a Trader Joe's employee, hearing me talk through my plan with the spouse at the register, said "wow, you can cook" - and I'm thinking 2/3rds of this menu is me just chopping and not cooking. Again, NoVa is an area where it apparently is easy to impress people if you just know how to use a blender...

30 Depends what I'm doing. I use the binder clips to keep some bags closed. Sometimes I use the stout rubberbands that come with celery. BUT - the nylon-wrapped bag ties are excellent for keep the suet cages closed so that local wildlife (likely raccoons) don't make off with an entire suet cake.

38 Those plastic keyhole clips are great for the packaging tape that otherwise is impossible to start the next time you go to use it. When you fold the tape to be able to start it the next time, you have to cut that fold off. Binder clips rock but I have some cheapo plastic things with a magnet glued in so they stay handy on the side of the fridge instead of getting lost in the junk drawer. They aren't super durable but they work ok.

And 2nd FWP - kids who have to work all through the holiday...I mean, the reason we had brunch is the boyfriend is working (in healthcare) 2pm-12am today and both collegiate girls had a pile of homework and no days off. They did spend the morning with an egg hunt (all asked for that) and brunch (after Church last night), and then took 30 minutes to dye eggs now. So, holiday traditions fit in with a packed week. Modern propane tank have a flow restrictor built in so if you open them too fast they will shut off. To reset them you need to disconnect the bottle to release pressure, reconnect, and then crack the valve open, very slowly. I found this out the hard way, convinced that my gas burner was broken.

Tatiana the Wonder Siberian loved to fetch a small rubber ball. I'd throw it for her the length of the living room and kitchen floors, and she'd give a squeak and race after it, seize it in her jaws, and trot back to drop it near me. Not to please me, understand, but ti continue the game.

She also found twist ties fascinating. I was worried she might swallow one, so I put them in a cabinet near the stove. Darned if the clever little feline didn't watch me, then climb up to the counter, paw the cabinet door open, and reach inside for the twist ties! I had to move them to another cabinet she couldn't reach.

117 Why does the Canadian version of the Haliaeetus Sickle Hoe go for $201.38 (presumably Canadian dollars) whereas on American Amazon the same hoe goes for $62.99 (American dollars). Checking the exchange rates one American dollar buys just over $1.38 Canadian. But the Canadian price divided by the American is a ratio of 3.197. Divide that by1.38 and you’re still paying well over twice as much to buy that Canadian hoe!

Looks like the blade is offset to one side, which would put a torque on your wrist every time you hit a stubborn root. Dutch hoe and hula hoe have the center of the blades on the handle axis, and blade is flat to the ground when in working stance. Both cut on bothe fore and back stroke too.

There are (and have been) times when the Mighty Jaws of The Clip were just too much for whatever was being secured, and I was left disheartened with a collexion of 'stuff' instead of a neat li'l package. The flip side is that - on occasion - the breadbag holder and the TwisteeTie have both lacked sufficient 'holding power' to prevent a 'that which hath been joined together' becoming an 'asundering' of Titanic proportions. Ergo, there is room in God's Creation for all manner of joineries, and who are we to say we know more than … oh, YOU knowwww …
