Zelenskyy Pulls a George Costanza, Claims He Was Just Kidding When He Quit the Peace Talks

The headline is a reference to this Seinfeld episode.

What? That? I'm a joker, you know that. I kid!

Zelensky reaches out to Trump after "regrettable" meeting

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has extended an olive branch to President Donald Trump following what he called a "regrettable" meeting in Washington. Zelensky thanked Trump for past U.S. support and reiterated Ukraine's willingness to sign a mineral agreement "any time and in any convenient format." His remarks come as the U.S. has paused military aid to Ukraine, and Trump has signaled a preference for peace negotiations.

Key Details:

Zelensky acknowledged that the Friday meeting at the White House did not go as planned and expressed a desire for "constructive" future cooperation.

He highlighted Trump's past support for Ukraine, particularly his decision to provide Javelin missiles, as a pivotal moment.

The U.S. paused all military aid to Ukraine on Monday, with Trump telling Zelensky to return "when he was ready for peace."

Here's the statement this stupid actor posted on X:

Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський
@ZelenskyyUa

I would like to reiterate Ukraine's commitment to peace.

None of us wants an endless war. Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer. Nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians. My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump's strong leadership to get a peace that lasts.

LOL. Please.

We are ready to work fast to end the war, and the first stages could be the release of prisoners and truce in the sky -- ban on missiles, long-ranged drones, bombs on energy and other civilian infrastructure -- and truce in the sea immediately, if Russia will do the same. Then we want to move very fast through all next stages and to work with the US to agree a strong final deal.

We do really value how much America has done to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty and independence. And we remember the moment when things changed when President Trump provided Ukraine with Javelins. We are grateful for this.

Sure, sure, sure. Now you're grateful. Two days ago you were sanctimonious and entitled and petulant, but now you're truly grateful.

Our meeting in Washington, at the White House on Friday, did not go the way it was supposed to be. It is regrettable that it happened this way. It is time to make things right. We would like future cooperation and communication to be constructive.

Regarding the agreement on minerals and security, Ukraine is ready to sign it in any time and in any convenient format. We see this agreement as a step toward greater security and solid security guarantees, and I truly hope it will work effectively.

Zelenskyy needs the US. We don't need him. He's a side-show and an irritant. And yet he acts like he's doing us a favor in taking billions from us (and squirreling away millions for himself and his cronies).

Same with Europe.

Emily Jashinsky put out a video noting that America was tired of Zelenskyy's and Europe's never-ending moral blackmail. Certainly. And I'd add that every US citizens has faced never-ending moral blackmail from the unreasonable left for more than ten years -- going back to 2007, when it was demanded of us that we praise an unaccomplished "community organizer" communist as New Black Jesus.

We are tired of the moral blackmail, and it no longer works. It now provokes us and angers us.

Hans Mahncke
@HansMahncke

The endless theories about Zelensky's meltdown--Trump set him up, communication issues, Slavic mentality--are exhausting. There’s exactly one reason this happened: Zelensky himself. He's a petulant, arrogant, entitled fraud who lacks even a shred of statesmanship. He got away with his act for far too long because Western elites indulged him. That ended yesterday. The world saw the real Zelensky, not the manufactured caricature. No further analysis is needed. One man's character flaws caused this. That's it.

Slava America, bitch.

Europe is pretending that maybe they'll send their tiny armies to stand down Russia.

Via David Strom, Italy's Giorgia Miloni says "Not with Italian troops you won't."

Rewatching the encounter between Trump and Zelenskyy, I notice so many more things I didn't catch the first time:

The coke baggie was Zelenskyy's? Well that would explain all the nose-touching.

23 I hope Trump says "nyet" to Zelenskyy.

He had his chance, he used it to work with the Deep State to try to ratfuck Trump. Then he ran off to try to get the Europeans to replace the US as prime benefactor, and the Euros said "not happening. But we'll gladly take your rare earth minerals and maybe the French will send a detachment to protect that in Ukraine. Maybe. You know how the French are though."

And now that that gambit didn't work, he's back to try a do-over? Fuck off.

56 many of you know this, but in case you didn't: The Seinfeld episode in which George loudly declares he's quitting in front of the whole office, while insulting the boss, and then comes in to work on Monday and pretends he was just kidding was based on real life.

Larry David angrily quit Saturday Night Live -- he was a writer who couldn't get any of his skits on the air -- and told off Lorne Michaels in front of the whole cast and crew.

He then realized that he had no other work lined up and needed the paycheck and did it really matter if they didn't like his sketches if he was still getting a big paycheck?

So he went in on the following Monday and pretended he was just kidding around when he quit.

The real problem is the weapons.

We don't even have enough domestic ability to manufacture to make our own weapons. We are importing all kinds of shit from China for that purpose. And we were exhausting things like artillery shells very quickly at the height of our military industrial complex spending orgy in Ukraine and Israel.

Europe has even less domestic weapons manufacturing ability.

Russia is the only country that retained it's domestic weapons manufacturing ability from the cold war era. But unfortunately, I doubt they'll be willing to sell weapons to Ukraine.

So really, we're the only game in town. Or, I guess, China. But I suspect China is sitting this one out.

But I'm sure Z knows all of this. The Deep State told him to ignore Trump, they'll continue to send him whatever weapons he needs. Not sure if the Deep State can really follow through on that promise in a big way, but we'll see.

This isn't about him "caving". This is about a head of state acting like it and engaging in diplomacy. Framing this as Minister Zelenskyy "caving to Trump" is needlessly inflammatory.

he didn't cave! He's still taking about security guarantees. He's been attacked as not being interested in peace, so he has to say he wants peace, he has to look cooperative, he has to say he's willing to negotiate.

I read this more as a reset. "Hey, you flipped out because you think I didn't say thank you? Fine, here's a thank you. Can we have a constructive discussion now?"

Poor choice (IMHO). Set an agreement with the whole of the EU and make them your partners, not this Russian tool play acting as a President.

Smart move. Trump is trying to destroy Zelensky and an independent Ukraine at the direction of Putin. His X message puts his European partners in a less adversarial position so they will have more political cover at home to support him. It wouldn’t surprise me if he wrote it at their request.

International diplomacy is extremely, some would say rabidly, ritualistic. I think it was initiated when he did a stop over in Ireland on the way to the US. I'll bet that there were a nice collection of EU and UK diplomats on hand to hand him his strategy with President Trump. I believe that approach was hatched the week before at the emergency summit the EU called.

Here's the thing. Prime Minister Meloni attended that event (showed up rather late)....and was the only participant not to run to the media for face time afterwards. In fact, she left without speaking to the press and appeared agitated. And it's not a simple "people aren't as active." No, they're not, but as a 29 year old, people were lazy back in the 70s and 80s, too. It's "not as active" plus something else(s), and it will likely be earth-shattering when the nation is allowed to acknowledge what it is.

The CIA was attempting to start a good old fashioned war in Laos and neighboring Vietnam at the time and had made all kinds of monetary and material promises to General Phoumi under Eisenhower. Kennedy doesn't fully approve of the "let's start wars all over Asia" mindset of Ike, so he starts to pull back on some of those commitments.

As wiki puts it: "Phoumi accused the United States of a "defeatist policy", and of treating the Royal Lao Government "like a small child".

Long story short, he bit the hand that fed him and eventually spent the rest of his life in exile.

Posted by: runner at March 04, 2025 01:26 PM (g47mK)

Oh, i did. Brit numbskulls tried to make something out of nothing. First - The words in question were "fought A war" not "fought in a war". Big difference. Our allies sent troops to Iraq and Afghanistan, but the US supplied the logistics, transport, most of the in-theater medical support, intelligence collection, base-road-airfield construction, air traffic control, etc., etc. THAT is all part of "fighting A war". And none of the European countries have come close to a total theater deployment of military forces since the Falkland War (and the UK depended heavily on surreptitious US support for that, too).
Second - JD Vance served as a US Marine combat journalist in Iraq for several months. He knows exactly how much our allies contributed to the war effort, which is a helluva lot more than the buffoons in the UK who fomented and encouraged the BS outrage over JD's excellent exposition of US-Ukraine policy.

It should have been settled a long time ago, with minimal violence, and been something most Americans never heard about.

Instead, the deep state used Ukraine to launder billions to the DNC and RINOs. They pushed a war they knew Ukraine would never be able to win to launder more money.

The Ukrainian government is in on the corruption. They participated in the impeachment hoax because Trump was getting too close to the truth by asking Zelenskyyyy about Hunter Biden.

These “trillions of dollars in minerals” things never take into account actual market conditions.

And even if some end up being extracted, it will take decades for payoff. It’s not like a trillion dollars is going to be pulled out of the ground in five years. It will be over the period of a century.

Posted by: 18-1 at March 04, 2025 01:56 PM (t0Rmr)

It's a combination of our own EPA shutting down power generation, Canada having a lot of hydro generation ("green energy") that will help utilities hit certain goals, and the fact that the grids of the two countries are a combination of a bunch of smaller grids and ended up interconnected cross-border in a lot of places because it hardly made sense to duplicate the power generation needed for border areas by having both countries generate power.

Anyways, it's reversible. And we should reverse it. ANd like I said in a previous thread, it's about time Canada got their own country code and got off of our phone exchange. No more +1 for Canada! They can be +310 or whatever is available.

Posted by: Tonypete at March 04, 2025 01:57 PM (cYBz/)

Our problem is not the transmission of the electricity (well, that is a problem too, but unrelated to this). It's the generation of electricity.

The EPA has been shutting down coal plants all over the country since Obama's term, and the Northeast in particular is being fucked by NY's "no new pipeline" position, so there is not enough natural gas flowing to new england to power additional plants, even if they could build more, which is also hard and expensive due to all of the regulations. And also, does not meet the green energy goals set out by the govt.

So it was decided to just import "green" (hydro) energy from Canada.

Which -- whatever. It is what it is. But that's why we are here.

463 The meeting with Trump was supposed to be entirely ceremonial, with an agreement being signed, but Z-Man met with prominent Democrats right before the Trump meeting, and the Democrats convinced him to torpedo the agreement.

Z-Man had an agreement with Russia early on but Boris Johnson convinced him to torpedo the agreement. Apparently he's pretty impressionable.

The Dem military makes trannies and jihadis, so I guess that is worse

This will only intensify as China has placed end user export bans on certain minerals ( tungsten, tellurium, bismuth, indium, and molybdenum) in addition to the previously placed restriction on gallium, germanium and antimony.

Many of these minerals are essential in weapons production and China is the world's largest producer of nearly all of them, in some instances producing over 90% of global production.

Right. Our military industrial complex, whose entire existence is based on the idea that we need to be ready to go to war at any time and thus need to keep the weapons factories churning out weapons, off-shored much of the manufacturing of the basic materials needed for things like artillery shells to factories in China.

Russia retained all or most of their weapons manufacturing abilities from the USSR era.

Much easier for Russia to ramp back up production than it is for us, when we can't produce sufficient quantities of gun powder or explosives or propellant or even the casings without buying a lot of shit from China.

It's a national security nightmare, frankly.

Early in the war there was a claim from a Uke woman that a Russian patrol showed up at her house and sexually assaulted her.

I remember you could find maps of the front lines at the time and so I checked and she was 10 miles away from the front lines with one road leading from the Russian held territory to her. So then the story I guess is a Russian patrol went deep into Uke held territory driving right down an open road, found an occupied house and...spent hours literally dicking around in enemy territory?

I assumed that was just some propaganda (and later one of the Uke ministers got fired for being too obvious with this stuff) but imagine if it wasn't? What kind of f*cking war does that NOT get you killed as the Russian patrol?

It was dicey at the start when oversight by drones and satellites was first kicking in. Any long stroll in the open could be hit by accurate arty or drones could fly into your trench bunker after you and take your squad out.

But now, the air force for Russia can launch fuel air bombs if you try and hold an urban area and incinerate the men. City is pretty rough after that, but that's what rebuilding is for. They were rebuilding Mariopol back the first summer of the war. They aren't pulling out.

Well the front line maps aren't accurate either. Many don't report updates frequently or at all. It could have been a UKR patrol, or a foreign volunteer.

But yeah, in the Donbass wide sneaking is less useful since there are IR and night vision and now IR drones. The current tactic is to rush down the road a KM or too, dig in on the roadside. Then if no UKR come close they extend out from the roadside each direction and move the point out some too. So it goes from a pin, to a finger, to a bulge. Some miles away they do another and between them the entrenchment, or town, is nearly surrounded from the start.

One form is to protect your own developing industry usually war related so you aren't dependent. Alternatively you subsidize the local industry. Both have disadvantages. The blanket or reciprocal ones are more to cudgel the foreign country to try and find other stuff to buy from you to balance out nasty fund transfers.

So if we buy power and maple syrup and they tariff our dairy 300 percent, they could drop dairy and buy US cars and lower their tarriff so ours can get a market there. Or they could just import something new from us to add to their economy as a new thing. Like an army or something.

Simple proposition to think on... if your REAL (not government) economy is growing less, then your trade deficit, then you are as an economy getting weaker.

If your GDP is growing LESS than the combined trade deficit added to your non government Inflation... then you are in a recession, and if it continues (as it has for decades now) a depression.

Note, I keep adding in NON GOVERNMENT ... when Government control over 40% of GDP (Local, State, Fed)... because the government produces nothing but order... you can't really use that money to count for growth.

Russia has already formally incorporated the "4 Regions" into Russia. Donbass, and the south bank of Dnepr and the area between Kherson and Crimea. US has pretty much accepted that and Crimea as Russian.

I expect Kharkov and Odessa to be ceded as well or in some free state status dependent on Russia. Kiev area? Not sure, they have historical clams but it currently is full up with Ukraine government types. They want a buffer zone bigger than artillery range. These are't formal.

Putin has also floated letting ethnic areas in far west ukraine go to NATO neighbors like Poland, Hungary, Romania.
