For those unaware - "Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday" and is the celebratory carnival that leads up to the beginning of Lent, the season of fasting and penitence. It gets its name from the practice of consuming foods that would be forbidden during Lent leading up to the beginning of the fast on Ash Wednesday".

History Tidbit
Without any shots to hear around the world, a little-known and heated standoff marked the opening of America’s Revolutionary War.On February 26th, 1775, two-hundred and fifty years ago last week, British Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Leslie led a raid into the town of Salem, Massachusetts, to seize what they expected to be cannon stored at a makeshift armory.
Rather than finding artillery, after arriving at the north bridge into town they found an inflamed citizenry, largely unarmed, but indignant in the face of British demands. The colonists flooded Salem’s streets and barred Leslie’s passage until the officer was forced to negotiate and withdraw.
Charles Moses Endicott, a man who fancied himself Salem’s official historian, recorded the event from eyewitness accounts offered by elderly Salemites, and is, as Robert Pushkar writing for the Smithsonian Magazine points out, the only reason we know of it.
“Here … we claim the first blow was struck in the war of independence, by open resistance to both the civil and military power of the mother country; comparatively bloodless, it is true, but not the less firm and decided,” Endicott wrote in his account published by “W. Ives & G. W. Pease, printers.”

Pushkar notes that had a British or Colonial soldier gone rogue, the Revolutionary War would have all but certainly started that day. Yet the combination of a young Loyalist minister’s appeals and the understanding that Lieutenant Colonel Leslie needed to save face led to an agreement: the drawbridge would be lowered and the regiment permitted to “march in a peaceable manner” no more than 275 yards into the town, “and then return, without molesting any person or property,” Endicott wrote.
This they did, and jeers followed their retreat, including one from a local nurse who supposedly asked them “Do you think we were born in the woods to be frightened by owls?”

I corrected myself in that it wouldn't be a "transfer" per se, but, rather, I could apply, be interviewed, and accepted for a completely different position within the same agency which would be the least bad option. There's currently one such position open for which I'd be qualified.
There are other potential positions within other agencies, too, but I'm getting word that, outside the DoD, there's a hiring freeze that would actually preclude internal/inter-agency hiring. I cannot confirm that right now, though.
However, it's all academic since I need my resume to apply to anything and I'm trying like hell to find it on top of dealing with everything else going on.

Down picking is the life blood of metal, and its a true test of stamina. Its actually harder then tremolo or alternate picking, which you do need also, so you are totally right. Down picking will definitely separate the vikings from the milk drinkers.

Fun fact and full disclosure: I've kept a lot of clunkers in my collection (Status Quo,, e.g.; sorry, MisHum). The only album I ever sold was to my college dorm roommate, Springsteen's 'Born To Run'. Even then, I found that album to be so pretentious and just crap that I had to get rid of it; 'Born To Run' becoming a hit put an exclamation point on that desire as I heard it everywhere. I liked, not adored, Springsteen's first two albums, '. . . E Street Shuffle' more than '. . . Asbury Park', with 'Rosalita' from 'E Street' being a decent song. But I gave up on him with 'Born To Run'. He only confirmed his douchebaggery over time.

I do really dig a few of his songs (Black Star and Deja Vu come to mind) but, yeah, agreed. I also prefer hearing distinct notes being picked rather than his typical machine-gun picking which, frankly, sounds kinda sloppy. That last point got me into a bar argument many years ago...

When I do the North/South migration, I mostly take I-5, but I avoid the stretch between Dillon and Boulder, that goes through Butte. Boulder to Whitehall to Twin Bridges to Dillon. It's 12 miles shorter, and mostly river valley grade the whole way. Also very scenic.

I haven’t been through Dillion in years but I recall it being a classic western small town. I bought a Coleman camping lantern at the hardware store that still works. Even if I don’t very well.
I would guess it’s gotten bigger as a victim of its great beauty and world class trout fishing.

Took a long time. The original target was Jan 1, that got shoved forward to Mar 1. That takes care of I-40, perhaps. Numerous side roads and bridges are still impassable...or missing altogether. Uncertain of the N-S rail lines, I doubt that they are near 100%.
The more local problems are no where near 'recovery'. This is an every day deal. I'm still trying to decide if I should vent here about FEMA, as it would be pretty personally revealing.

Bolin played on Cobham's 1973 Jazz Album of the Year, 'Spectrum'. In 1974, that album tracked to 26 on the BillBoard 200 of top (mostly pop/rock) albums which was not bad for a jazz album, a real crossover. Album put Bolin on the musical map, too, no doubt about it. Bolin was 22 when the album was rleased. Dead 3 years later after working in The James Gang, Deep Purple and putting out his own two solos. He left an amazing musical mark but boy oh boy what could have been. Another one with the drugs.

That's not news. Rats have been a problem in DC for years. I used to work mids and would walk around Lafayette Park in the middle of the night. It's proximity to the White House makes it one of the safest parks in the world. Used to see herds of rats running around in the grass though. DC and the Park Police needed those little rat terriers the NYC Subway pest control use to attack the rats.

When you see him play, you are hearing Steve Vai looped a second time. Ralph Machio played at about 90% speed while the camera is equally under-cranked. Often this is done in martial arts movies. The guy has more talent at guitar than karate.

Fun thing I recently learned: you know how Lord of the Flies was actually the opposite of what happened when a group of boys were stranded on an island in real life? Turns out Deliverence is based on a true story, but it’s the exact opposite of what really happened. The liberal professor who wrote the book had a flat tire in deepest darkest Kentucky in the 50s. The rednecks helped him get to a motel, buy and mount a new tire, and go on his way with a proper breakfast.
