56 One day I walked out to my lawn and there were a billion birds completely covering everything. I thought hmmm, that's a bit odd, kind of hitchcockian. Come to find out, my whole lawn was being devoured by armyworms. I could go to one of the few spots not covered with birds look down and see the ground move. It wasn't the ground moving it was a swarm of worms. Freaked me out.

24hrs after I saw all the birds I had no lawn, down to the soil in a day. I had planted high grade golf course grass which looked amazing but apparently, was very yummy. The worms ate some of the roots but not all and the grass came back with a lot of work on my part.

Anyway, those guys should just plant a sacrificial lawn to attract armyworms to feed their chickens.

The French and Belgians used the Adrian style with the ridge over the top, sort of based on the burganet style, and the Spanish proposed but never produced a similar style with a lobstertail design with articulated plates down the back of the neck for extra protection.

Well isn't that convenient, suspending the Canadian parliment for a couple months while the Liberal Party finds a new leader. No wonder the province leaders went direct to Trump.

Whoever programmed or was flying that drone was a rank amateur. What a smoky, sooty mess that was.

To wit:
1/ Bring the drone in closer and lower so that its flame can be directed at the nest's opening from away and below it.
2/ Give the nest's hole a good and long roasting with the flame. As the flying insects swarm out, their wings burn off and they drop to the ground, supremely pissed off and unable to do anything about it.
3/ Point at them and laugh.

With that speech Felonious D has kicked off a long over due post WWI revolution in earnest. Europe can either keep heading towards becoming neo-Feudal totalitarians or they can re-embrace the glory of Western Civilization. Either way the USA is disentangling itself from Europe and NATO. That he didn't personally give a speech that was one of the most important speeches since WWII was brilliant. He accomplished two things. This revolution is not about him, it is about a much bigger movement to reclaim our heritage. Having JD give that speech underscored this and also is establishing that these young guns that are everywhere in his administration are the future. Europe is on notice.

359 Just saw this last night, as it hasn't made mainstream news much. PDT has nominated Jared Isaacman to be NASA adminstrator.

He's an actual astronaut (private), commander of the Polaris Dawn mission, and a billionaire himself (only
$1 - 2B, no real money).

Check out his Twitter feed. NASA will back in business when he takes over.

He was likely going to the commander of the first crewed Starship flight. They are not ruling out him still flying the mission while NASA administrator.

I wish SpaceX would put an accelerometer readout on their video feed. I'd love to see the g's being felt throughout the trajectory. Coordinate as well as "felt" g's (note if you're accelerating straight up, relative to the ground, at 1g of coordinate acceleration, you're feeling 2g total).

You can use the velocity readouts and the timer to work out the acceleration and deceleration g numbers. Delta velocity divided by delta time. I did a rough estimate of the entry burn and came up with 3 gs. One g in metric is 9.8 meters per second squared.

Oh, I only make those for family and friends! I stopped working on them when I was diagnosed with cancer to concentrate on making Christmas stockings for our youngest grandson and a couple of extra ones for any future grandchildren that we might have. My stockings usually take a couple of months to complete, as I follow some pretty intricate cross stitch patterns for each one (most of the patterns were collected by me over 30 years ago).

I can send you pictures of them, if you would like. I think at last count I had a total of 13 that I have made over the last 30 years - all but 3 of them are still kept at our house for storage. We hang them on our fireplace every year, starting the day after Thanksgiving.

I usually post a picture of most of them at least once a year on Facebook. I sometimes share a link on the Hobby Thread at Christmas time, too 😊❤

I just listened to Elon's conversation with Alice Weidel. It got quite interesting at the end. She asked him about his plans for Mars and all that.

The conversation got quite philosophical with Elon waxing about human civilization needed to pass Fermi filters, and how any decent civilization needs to last about 1 million years.

And how short 1 million years is in the time scale of the Universe, how we're all just made of star stuff. And finally Elon mentioning how the "meaning of life is 42".
