This is an intriguing portrait. I'd have guessed he was an apothecary of some kind. ("O true apothecary! Thy drugs are quick!") This is nicely detailed, with the texture of the wooden walls visible, along with that of the blue doublet (?) worn by the teen boy in the back and the canvas sack in front of the drug-mixer's desk. He has a pipe atop his book in the foreground, too.

94 I love the way Anker uses natural light to establish a mood and bring out textures in the objects in the painting. Also, his ability to capture facial expressions and skin tones. That also helps him set the mood of the piece. Despite the serious implications of dealing with a quack due to a family illness, the scene is tranquil.

As much as I enjoy Anker's group scenes I prefer the paintings based around one or two figures (CBD has used some of those in the past) and especially his still life works. They are lovely.

We went to his follow-up appointment yesterday and the surgeon sent him right to the ER. They say he has AFib and a blood pressure in the toilet. 80/39. I'm kind of upset. I'll have to check that out - I only know the original Leslie Howard movie. And I'm sure I would love the dresses; as I've said before, I wish I had a woman who was into either Edwardian cosplay or who made YouTube videos about dressing in that style. It's also in line with Trump's first term approach to foreign policy in general: an embrace of bilateral agreements over large, multi-party agreements that the American State Department preferred.

It's easier to talk one-on-one than it is in a group, and getting Russia to agree to a set of things and then bringing those to Ukraine is probably more productive than getting Germany in the room to yell about...whatever.

When my kids woke up sick, I called the school to report the absence and asked to talk to the school nurse. I always asked her what was going around at the time and worked with that info to decide what was needed.

Breaking Away. The Little 500 is a bike race held every year. Everyone gets drunk. It is a huge thing. I spent one little 500 week getting drunk every single day culminating in a truly epic one the day of the race. Sountern Comfort and Dr Pepper. We started drinking about 1030. Managed to strew comrades all over town (passed out at the track, in a park.) Walked about 5 miles back to the girlfriend at the times place in a haze before I realized I had lost everyone.

I remember being told I was silly and wrong for thinking that Trump would assert Loper as reasoning for limiting subservient executive authority.

It was actually a huge win for the left because Loper made the courts the final arbiter of what was good regulation.

Well, it did do that, but it didn't limit Trump at all, as head of the executive branch, from using it as reasoning to keep the executive in line.

They're going to be tearing up...A LOT of the federal register in the next four years.

Outer Limits was an hour from the beginning. Twilight Zone went to an hour format later, for one season, before going back to the half hour for its last year. That said, TZ's stories were like little short stories with surprise endings and worked better at the 30-minute length. OL had scripts that were often more like novellas or short novels. Of the entire bunch, I really remember only Harlan Ellison's two, "Soldier" and "Demon With the Glass Hand," the two that supposedly James Cameron stole from for his Terminator script.

NIght Gallery was often very good -- it adapted a slew of print stories, like "Cool Air" and "Pickman's Model" by Lovecraft, and "The Phantom Farmhouse" by Seabury Quinn. But it got cheapened by unfunny blackout sketches like Dracula (Cesar Romero, I think) wanting to make a withdrawal at the blood bank.

It's amusing watching these federal judges blithely march the entire bureaucratic left to oblivion.

I mean, look at the key underpinning of the immunity decision:
The only Law the President has to follow was the one drafted in the summer of 1787 and any Amendments thereto.
All other law passed by Congress restricting or directing the President how to act mean fuck-all.
All this "illegally fired" and "illegally delegated" and "illegally froze funding" are all under "da fuck you talkin' 'bout Willis?"
