Just a quick reminder:
a kitchen sink can be dirtier than a toilet. Kitchen sinks can contain more harmful bacteria, yeast, and mold than toilets. Explanation Food particles: Food particles from dishes and plates can get into the sink and provide a breeding ground for bacteria. Wet and moist: The sink's wet and moist environment is ideal for bacteria to grow. Sponges: Kitchen sponges can carry a lot of bacteria. How to clean your kitchen sink Wash the sink daily with hot, soapy water Wash the sink after handling raw meat or poultry Sanitize sponges in the microwave for one minute Wash the sink with a bleach and water solution Clean the drain plug Nuke it from space I may have added that last one. I had a top of the line garbage disposal start leaking like a sieve a number of years ago. I figured out that the motor seal had gone out and since I'm kinda handy, I would just replace it. Called around and finally got a plumber to tell me that there was no such thing available.
He said landfills are full of disposable disposals that could be fixed for a couple of dollars but that would hurt Big Appliance and the legions of plumbers out there trying to put their kids through college. But I have learned that stainless can have iron particles embedded into it during the manufacturing process. If the tooling that is used to form the sink is made out of 'regular' steel, it can transfer some iron to the stainless steel. There are chemical processes (called passivation) to remove that iron, but doubtful they would spend the money on something like a sink (and it sounds like they definitely don't)! My (solved) FWP: we kept having water underneath the kitchen sink. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. All the plumbing was dry, and when the water and/or garbage disposal were on, no leaks. Mystery.
Finally the garbage disposal gave up the ghost, and when I replaced I found the source of the leak: the disposal wasn't clamped to the bottom of the sink. It was just urged into place by an ABS pipe, so when the dishwasher drained into the garbage disposal (usually ~ 2 am or so), filling it with water, the extra weight pushed the disposal down so that water drained around the disposal. When the water finally drained out as it was supposed to, the disposal moved back up, and overnight all the plumbing dried out. Mystery solved. What pisses me off is that the problem with my oven (element fried, easily replaced) is that I think they buried a circuit breaker in the control board. Probably a one dollar part, but the board goes for $300+. And can no longer be found.

One could argue that that's what the government does when they provide assistance to poor students who want to attend a private, religious school. IIRC, that was a SCOTUS decision some years ago. I don't know whay your icemaker failed. My comments are not directed to the DIY crowd but good luck finding a replacement if it's over 3-5 years old because of design churn and inventory stocking practices. My comment was directed at microprocessors in consumer appliances having limited lifetime in the real world and how that has been a money maker for the appliance supply chain. My experience with in-door ice dispensers (not ice makers which are purely mechanical except for a small motor) is that they are a source of corrosion because of condensation due to air gaps in the insulation around the opening. Pro tip re garbage disposals: if you have two sinks, place a plastic container in the one without the garbage disposal, and use that one to collect silverware. That avoids the spoons going down the disposal problem.

So I went out to the garage to leave one day and the garage door is going up and down randomly.
This is the garage door opener that declared war on me when I moved in and I have been nursing along for years because it was old and I could fixit. Si I went to tell my roomate to come and see what was going on because it was so bizzare. I find my roommate at the computer rocking back and forth in the office chair with his outdoor jacked draped over the back. He comes to see and it had stopped. The thing we hate the most is Donald Rumsfeld was right about old Europe and new Europe. France, the UK and Germany are literally off their freaking rockers. I know there is a populist movement in France, but they already showed the status will join together and make sure they never get in office. You can only look to Italy for any positive situation. I prefer the conservative in Spain to the ones in France, but history shows neither of them are going to get an office or stay in office long. We should be happy about Italy. I always bounce between Spanish and French in my studies and I also throw an Italian. I am at the Cosper being truly literate in French, but I want to study Italian because the French just make me unhappy. It is a bad way to go about languages 30 years of study so I know what I’m talking about.

Whatever happened to that "separation of church and state" thing, anyway? That was good. Why is the government giving a dime to religious organizations for ... anything, really?
Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara at February 02, 2025 03:24 PM Here's why, as explained to me by a nun who was employed by the Detroit Public Schools as a reading specialist: The elected government promised services but using government employees blows the budget because of their wages. Also, government bean-counters won't build service centers in high poverty (aka low tax base) areas. Therefore, government began outsourcing work to NGOs with volunteers and/or low-paid employees (nuns take a vow of poverty). Christian churches already had services in impoverished areas, seeing as they're on a mission from God. A little government money for more services was a win/win. The problems started when NGOs started chasing the government cash. Heck, about 20 years ago, I was at a church conference and a friend's teenaged daughter said she wanted to start an NGO. I asked what problem it would tackle. She wasn't sure, but proceeded to tell us that the heads of NGOs could make more than $400K in salary/bennies.
