On the other hand, Donald Trump just stuck his big thumb in the eye of every Woke idiot and far-left loon. Hopefully this pronouncement will be followed by real action against the criminal behavior of the trans industry and their surgical and pharmaceutical mutilations of children. Doctors and therapists and social workers who push this vile criminal behavior need to go to jail. And let's toss in Big Pharma for good measure. I would argue that the conflation of men's roles and women's roles is MUCH older and the worst part is usurping men's roles with women, not the men in dresses playing games with women.
The trans thing is sports is the latest stupidity, but ultimately is not all that important. Forcing women into men's roles (like the military) is actually dangerous- to the women, to the men around them, and to society. Posted by: Formerly Virginian at January 23, 2025 11:04 AM (zjgNU) 13

Section 1. Purpose. Across the country, ideologues who deny the biological reality of sex have increasingly used legal and other socially coercive means to permit men to self-identify as women and gain access to intimate single-sex spaces and activities designed for women, from women’s domestic abuse shelters to women’s workplace showers. This is wrong. Efforts to eradicate the biological reality of sex fundamentally attack women by depriving them of their dignity, safety, and well-being. The erasure of sex in language and policy has a corrosive impact not just on women but on the validity of the entire American system. Basing Federal policy on truth is critical to scientific inquiry, public safety, morale, and trust in government itself.
This unhealthy road is paved by an ongoing and purposeful attack against the ordinary and longstanding use and understanding of biological and scientific terms, replacing the immutable biological reality of sex with an internal, fluid, and subjective sense of self unmoored from biological facts. Invalidating the true and biological category of “woman” improperly transforms laws and policies designed to protect sex-based opportunities... ...into laws and policies that undermine them, replacing longstanding, cherished legal rights and values with an identity-based, inchoate social concept.
Accordingly, my Administration will defend women’s rights and protect freedom of conscience by using clear and accurate language and policies that recognize women are biologically female, and men are biologically male. Sec. 2. Policy and Definitions. It is the policy of the United States to recognize two sexes, male and female. These sexes are not changeable and are grounded in fundamental and incontrovertible reality. Under my direction, the Executive Branch will enforce all sex-protective laws to promote this reality, and the following definitions shall govern all Executive interpretation of and application of Federal law and administration policy: Posted by: Lizzy at January 23, 2025 11:07 AM (u1uWe) 24

The entirety of the "gender" thing, which I said on these very pages was coming (and that it would first come at the expense of the "women" leftists were busy propping up at the time), is about the dessication of law and order, and the total subversion of functional society. Leftards (as opposed to leftists) cannot see beyond the end of their own nose and do not fathom that the utopian dreams and facile protections pronounced by the ideologues who chart their daily course are merely an opening salvo, a hypnotic wonderland, and indeed a primrose path on the way to near immediate oblivion. Posted by: Archimedes at January 23, 2025 11:13 AM (xCA6C) NO. Merit is not the only issue. Women and men are different. Women act differently in the company of men. Freedom of (commercial) travel on the high seas has been one of the US Navy's primary functions for a long time, and under Biden, they're been shirking.
Posted by: Lance McCormick The sad fact is we no longer have the Navy to enforce it. 280 Ships in 2022 and I think we have lost a few since then. Our maritime traditions have been squandered as well as US has virtually stopped building ships except for the US Navy; our Merchant Marine is shrinking, and our Navy ship building has become slow, riddled with quality problems, and too costly. The Navy, like the Air Force, also needs to come to grips with the importance of drones and drone warfare over manned vehicles. In a modern world of drones, submarines, and missiles, heavily crewed big ships have become targets and we cannot build them fast enough nor replace crews in a peer war situation. EPA under the major question Mass v. EPA was the 5-4 decision in 2007 that EPA could regulate carbon dioxide emissions from motor vehicles. In between was a 7-2 decision allowing the EPA to regulate CO2 from stationary sources (aka power plants and industry) but only along with other pollutants that come from the stacks. Not CO2 by itself. Jurisprudence here is a mess due to the scientific illiteracy of Scotus and the prior existence of Chevron doctrine among others. I would argue that women, even if possessing undiminished qualifications, should not be placed in military roles expected to see combat. While it may be the case that they CAN do the job, I believe that it diminishes unit effectiveness.
If I were to make an exception to the rule I stated earlier, this would be it, because of the unique nature and importance of the military. However, there's a big difference between a ground pounder in a group, and a pilot in a fighter (as an example). I know female F-18 pilots who are VERY capable, and I'd hate to see the country lose access to their services. Posted by: Archimedes at January 23, 2025 11:44 AM (xCA6C) 244

This is kind of hilarious. The gloppy, oozy body-horror movie, "The Substance" is up for the Best Picture Oscar among others. Not that "The Substance" is a bad movie at all. It achieves near greatness for a horror movie as a Horror Movie for You Gals only to trip over itself in the during the climax to make sure that you get The Message. Still, the lovely and surprising Mrs naturalfake actually liked it a lot, which surprised me as she generally is not a fan of horror movies. The story concerns a fading movie star(read Jane Fonda), played by Demi Moore, who wants to regain her youth, and finds a way to do it. A temporary allowance for the EPA to continue with a rule that would reduce emissions from plants, pending litigation.
Posted by: TheJamesMadison ====== TJM, not to get into the weeds but if you read the 2022 decision, it deals with stationary sources (which are different than something like a car--see Mass v. EPA for that in 2007). The original Chevron decision actually involved EPA rules that decided the EPA could declare an entire plant as a bubble in measuring stationary source pollutants (in the case was a refining plant) rather than each and every emission source at the plant separately which is what NRDC sought. That is where Chevron deference came into play, Scotus declared they would defer to EPA's 'expertise' regarding how the EPA would regulate pollutants at a plant as long as the total emissions for the entire plant did not exceed Clean Air Act restrictions. The CAA itself was silent over how to implement pollutant restrictions and thus the Court deferred to the EPA over how they regulated stationary source pollutants. This is at Starbase, and we're like, we're in a tropical thunderstorm region. That stuff comes from the sky all the time. You know, it was just water to cool the launch pad during liftoff. And there's zero harm done. And they agree: Yes, there's zero harm done. We're like, okay, so there's no harm done, and you want us to pay a $140,000 fine? Yes, because you didn't have a permit. We didn't know there was a permit needed for zero-harm, fresh water being on the ground in a place where fresh water falls from the sky all the time. I mean, sometimes it rains so much the roads are flooded. So we're like, how does this make any sense? And they were like, we're not going to process any more of your applications for Starship launch unless you pay this $140,000. They just ransomed us. And we're like, okay, so we paid $140,000. Regarding HFC (aka refrigerants), EPA has the specific statutory authority under the 2020 AIM Act to regulate hydroflurocarbon refrigerants as greenhouse gases.
That is why you see no current challenges to it From the EPA, "Starting January 1, 2025, the manufacturing or importing of any product in specified sectors that uses a regulated substance with a global warming potential of 700 or greater is prohibited (40 C.F.R. § 84.54(a)). The specified sectors listed include R-410A, the most common refrigerant used in the HVAC industry. The installation of systems using a regulated substance with a global warming potential of 700 or greater in specified sectors is allowed until January 1, 2026, provided that all system components are manufactured or imported before January 1, 2025. See 40 C.F.R. § 84.54 (c). “Installation” of an HVAC system is defined as the completion of assembling the system’s circuit, including charging it with a full charge, such that the system can function and is ready for its intended purpose. I get the concern over Rubio's past positions, but in an interview from a week ago (could have been less) he eviscerated a leftist journo-chick who tried to tie him to his past positions on immigration. His new position seems to be the equivalent of "That was 10 years ago, the problem now is of a magnitude several times worse, and that no country can sustain, and its only getting worse."
He may not be ideologically "pure", but there seems to be a good amount of "getting it" going on in his current position. I saw that, and he did pretty well, but the question is why we need him, when there are lots and lots of other, smarter people out there who could do the job better, and who never tried to sell out the country. This speech and Q & A session is striking me as an inflection point in history. Effectively, he waging political and economic war.
I am finding myself reaching repeatedly for "audacious" to summarize what President Trump is doing. He is moving to expand the size of the USA and solidify its control over the hemisphere to ensure the USA has abundant resources, is a world leader of low cost energy, has a robust manufacturing base, and extends its technology leadership to name a few categories. To me, he is clearly anticipating the EU continuing its path from being a central ally to something more akin to being an adversary and gearing up to go toe to toe with an expansionist China. In this speech I am hearing he is redefining the USA's post world war II / cold war constrained relationship with the EU. He seems to moving quickly to diminish being held hostage by the EU and putting the EU in an extractive position relative to the USA. What happens to NATO is not clear except for it is going to change. Trump is literally redefining the global order with every intention of making sure the USA continues to be planet's dominant super power for the next century. Audacious. TJM,
As I said, it limits the EPA's ability to shut down existing coal and natural gas power plants via CO2 regulations but not non-stationary emitters aka vehicles. It gets picky here as the EPA cannot SOLELY regulate CO2 but in Utility Air Regulatory Group v. EPA in 2014, Justice Scalia, writing for a 7-2 majority, held " 1. The Act neither compels nor permits EPA to adopt an interpretation of the Act requiring a source to obtain a PSD or Title V permit on the sole basis of its potential greenhouse-gas emissions. Pp. 10–24. (a) The Act does not compel EPA’s interpretation. Massachusetts held that the Act-wide definition of “air pollutant” includes greenhouse gases, 549 U. S., at 529, but where the term “air pollutant” appears in the Act’s operative provisions, including the PSD and Title V permitting provisions, EPA has routinely given it a narrower, context-appropriate meaning. . . .The Act-wide definition is not a command to regulate, but a description of the universe of substances EPA may consider regulating under the Act’s operative provisions. On one hand, it is absolutely ridiculous that we are spending time on what is axiomatic. On the other hand, Donald Trump just stuck his big thumb in the eye of every Woke idiot and far-left loon. Wokeism is more than just a pile of ready-made punchlines for anyone with even a jot of common sense. Wokeism is absolutely immoral and must be purged from our civilization. It is critical to seize the momentum and use this opportunity to kick the shit out of the left while they are down. Yes, those supply and demand curves are cold, heartless bitches--they give zero cares about anyone's feelings. If women in the workplace once constituted 20%, and it then rose to twice that number, the additional "supply" of labor meant that the "price" of labor must go down in response (assuming all other factors remain the same). No amount of "but we're doing for the children/environment/etc" will change the predictability of supply and demand curves. This started because you said I was wrong that the 2022 decision limited the EPA's ability to regulate carbon.
Posted by: TheJamesMadison ------ The 2022 decision does not say what you want it to say. What it did was to strike down a specific EPA Power Plan regulation on existing power plants so the EPA came up with a new one that is currently before the DC Circuit Court of Appeals. Scotus has denied cert for now until that court rules. See West Virginia v. EPA 604 U. S. ____ (2024) (cert denied). For statutory reasons, the plan at issue in 2022 was the third air pollution control scheme (one is statewide std of air quality, second is hazardous substance regulation aka arsenic etc.) and the third is the New Source Performance Standards program of Section 111. §7411. That section directs EPA to list “categories of stationary sources” that it determines “cause[], or contribute[] significantly to, air pollution which may reasonably be anticipated to endanger public health or welfare.” Existing plants, which is the issue at stake in the 2022 case, are regulated via 7411(d) if the new power sources regulate a pollutant then the EPA must apply that to existing power plants. Hasn't he been assigned a mission to Panama? Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at January 23, 2025 12:14 PM (TtkQJ) It's reported that he has an early trip scheduled there, and although no one is making public statements about it, we have to assume that Trump's recent comments about Panama are going to be the topic discussed. Having said that, I don't believe Trump actually wants to take the canal back. I think he want's the Panamanian government to give us a much better deal than they've been doing. Rubio's going to Panama to tell them, in a language they can clearly understand, that we're taking the fucking canal back, so stand the fuck down.

She should just be pissed that the whole, "bankruptcy by medical bills" issue wasn't fixed by the ACA.
She should be livid at Obama and all the Democrats who voted for it, a massive waste that didn't fix the issue it was supposed to fix. Why isn't she? I was just listening to Michael Malice this morning in the car and he pointed out the Democrat Party is the oldest continuous political party in the world. And that they've gotten there by only having one principle: the accumulation of power. Everything else is optional in pursuit of that goal. He predicts there will be a new Bill Clinton-style Democrat relatively soon who will throw trannies and other currently sacred leftist groups under the bus to get elected. This isn’t going away because Trump said something. This is a disease that millions of people suffer from. It may take years if not decades to cure them. And we may never cure some of them.
Posted by: Its Go Time Donald at January 23, 2025 11:22 AM Agreed. And these people are infested in every corporation and institution in the USA and in western countries across the world. And I bet they all know that President Trump is only going to be around for 4 years. So they just need to wait him out and then get the next US President to reverse all his Executive Orders. Just like the Deep State did with Biden. The first Trump Administration was simply a bump in the road for them. The left has been on this Long March through the Institutions for decades. They succeeded in taking everything over -- culture, government, media, social media, schools, universities, healthcare, energy, automotive, immigration, etc. It is not going to be easy to get rid of the cancer that infects all these institutions and industries. Especially since they know President Trump only has 4 years and then he is gone. Posted by: Clyde Shelton at January 23, 2025 12:26 PM (P5BPp) 462

I think Trump want's administrative control over the Panama Canal back. That's basically "taking it back." If you have that... you basically own it.
And, yea, boot China out too. Lastly, take the tolls and reinvest them in upkeep. Something Panama/China isn't doing. Posted by: Martini Farmer at January 23, 2025 12:30 PM (Q4IgG) 479
342 My understanding is the treaty says Panama
Has to do X. But nowhere in the treaty is there a section that says if Panama doesn’t do X then Y happens. This was the brilliance of Carter that we heard so much about a couple of weeks ago. See also NATO members' (largely financial) responsibilities. (many such cases) Posted by: Lance McCormick --------------------------------------- You don't understand. We don't need a treaty. Panama can go easy or hard. This has as much to do with China as Panama. It's a marker, a precedent. Technically, I believe they ruled that federal law gave the government the power to do so. So their ruling was a legal one, not a scientific one. It's annoying at times but that's their proper role - they have a difficult enough time with that. Posted by: I used to have a different nic They ruled that carbon dioxide emission could be regulated by the EPA as a pollutant. There are three regimens that the EPA applies the Clean Air Act enforcement powers. One is the hazardous substances (things like arsenic are emitted from coal fired plants), the second is state wide limits on Air Quality (affects cars, trucks, etc. as well as stationary sources) and the third is the one affecting stationary sources such as power plants, refineries, industrial plants, a/c systems in homes, and so on. The 2007 case Mass v. EPA is where Scotus required the EPA to regulate CO2 when emitted from cars, trucks, etc. as a pollutant affecting air quality. Did not do so regarding power plants (so WV v. EPA did not find this controlling authority because Section 202 of the CAA does not apply to power plants and industrial plants aka stationary sources. Posted by: Clyde Shelton at January 23, 2025 12:26 PM The MAGA movement is only 10 years old. The leftist movement has been around and succeed over 50-75 years now. And having taken over the schools and universities for decades, they have indoctrinated two generations of Americans (Millennials, Gen-Z) and working on their third (Gen Alpha). It's great that President Trump has put things in motion already, but nothing has been accomplished yet that can't just be reversed when the Democrats take back control of the Executive and Legislative branches of government. Going to take decades before we're going to see any kind of culture shift. Long term there also needs to be a goal for an ideological shift in the Democrat Party. This country cannot succeed long term when one party is generally pro-USA and the other party is radical communist. We need both parties to have the best interest of the USA in their platform. Not one party for USA and the other for WEF radicalism. Posted by: Clyde Shelton at January 23, 2025 12:32 PM (P5BPp) 483

Now this will be a hard one for some of you, so get those thinking caps out of mothballs and put in a friend call to mom and dad.
For the last couple of decades that we exclusively held the Canal Zone, conservatives would not shut up about what a boondoggle it was. A huge waste of money and military resources, propping up a dissolute and corrupt banana republic, outmoded and in need of replacement, a millstone around the neck of world shipping, which was itself on the way out because of air freight. This has slipped your mind. And once we take it back, the black pill online brigade will be right back in full cry. Malcontents. That's why we're here. Once we commit, the Chinese will build the sea-level route in Nicaragua, and we'll be like huh. Dint see DAT comin! IF YOU GET IT, you'll need to build a wider one with more assured lock water supply right next to it, or you're running a museum. And you are not going to want to do that. I know you.
