Israel Delays Approving "Peace Deal" As Hamas Continues Changing the Terms

@Osint613 SAD NEWS U.S. State Department Spokesman Matthew Miller reports that out of the 7 American hostages in Gaza, only 3 are believed to be alive, while the remaining 4 are confirmed dead.
Hmm, what do you call a kidnapper who kills the victim? I think you call that kidnapper a "murderer," don't you? We learned yesterday that while Israel agreed to release 30 terrorists for each living Israeli civilian released, and 50 terrorists for each living Israeli soldier released, Hamas changed that deal point when they "accepted the deal" and count dead "bodies" as released living hostages. They're changing the deal terms further: Israel said that they would never, ever release any terrorists involved in 10/7, but Hamas says that they can specify which of the terrorists are released, and of course they want their Murderous Death Cult Heroes of 10/7 to be the first released. Quoting the WSJ:
...Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Hamas on Thursday of reneging on parts of the agreement during negotiations taking place in Qatar, creating what his office called "a last-minute crisis." ... Overnight, the PMO said that the purported dispute was related to the identity of Palestinian security prisoners slated for release. It said Hamas was "demanding to dictate the identity of these murderers," contradicting agreed-upon terms.Hamas is also renegotiating Israel's withdrawal from key strategic places -- Israel said they'd withdraw from those chokepoints if Hamas abode by the other parts of the "deal," but now Hamas is demanding a withdrawal whether Hamas abides by the "deal" or not. And they're not abiding by the "deal." They're changing the terms every few hours.

Which is why I think getting the hostages back has been the prime directive for Israel (and the USA) since 10-7. See my comment above. This is why you should never negotiate with terrorists. Israel uses a reserve army system and it is showing strain on the economy to fight this long. Then there is the problem that Israel has with other fronts, Lebanon and Hezbollah, and Syria.
Plus, there is a considerable amount of people in Israel sympathizing with those who have their loved ones captive with Ham Ass and want them returned. Israeli politics is coalitional and any majority coalition is subject to flying apart at the worst possible time leading to a political crisis.
Then there are problems in relations with the broader world and the risk of destabilizing adjacent cold peace regimes like in Jordan or Egypt.
I won't second guess Israeli governments for doing whatever they choose to do, but a lot of others will, inside and outside that country.

If memory serves, the Hezbollah hostage takers who'd snatched Soviet diplomats in Beirut were untouched, but some of their male family members disappeared, only to be found on the street outside of other family members' houses, along with an ultimatum. Hezbollah released the hostages, along with a formal apology.
As Bob Woodward noted in his book "Veil", CIA Director Bill Casey heard about the incident, and chuckled darkly that the KGB linguists sure did know how to speak Hezbollah's language.

There are going to be delays on those lucky enough to have insurance. The State of California is going to use all these delays to put a condemn order on selected properties. To some degree, Ham Ass follows a cell structure just as Hez Blown UP does. That means semi autonomous activity is built in for the cells in case leadership is compromised. That same cell structure makes it difficult enough for outside leaders to know what is going on (along with Israeli going after communication lines) and commanding them.
That also makes it likely that Ham Ass cells ignore the main leadership and go rogue in continuing attacks. Israel and the West trying to come to a deal and then being undercut by Ham Assholes repeatedly puts the onus on Ham Ass for failures rather than Israel or US. Optics.

This, unfortunately, is actually common in Arab culture. Friends of mine who in the past had come to a contractual agreement with building contractors who were Middle Eastern were unpleasantly surprised when the contractor began altering the terms of the agreement AFTER it was signed, and acted like such ex pst facto alterations are their Standard Operating Procedure.
Their attitude was, "The contract we signed with is is simply the lie we tell to trick money out of you -- of COURSE we don't plan to abide by the agreement. How could you be so naive to expect otherwise?"
And I[ve heard countless similar tales from travelers in Arab lands -- come to an agreement on the price of something "hotel room, carpet, dinner), commit to it, and THEN they either present you with a bill for a different (higher) price), or just as often add in extras you didn't order but have to pay for anyway.
Hamas is just acting like they always do, but now with human lves at stake.

A kid I had at the Y many moons ago grew up to be a rabbi, and he did tell me once that prisoner swapping and hostage taking probably predates both religions and was likely a common practice in ancient times, so it is viewed differently there than how we see it in the US and Western cultures.
I just don't understand it, however, in the context of something like October 7th.

Can someone explain to me why Hamas even has a fighting force left? They are surrounded, no? Can Israel just grind them down day by day until there is no one left to fight? They can't resupply or refill their ranks. Perhaps the hostages prevent Israel from being more aggressive than they would like, but I never got the feeling they were backing off. I think I remember hearing that fully grown adults vomited or passed out in the theater when it first came out. You could always get a month's subscription to Cleanflix/Pureflix and then tone down the violence settings to PG, but then the film might be just ten minutes.

Simply put, to eradicate Ham Ass would require such a level of death to Gazans that the price for Israel to do it would be steep as in becoming something like South Africa under apartheid pariah state. No Arab country wants the Palestinians who would promptly shit on their hosts and try to overthrow those governments. I, as a US citizen, absolutely reject allowing any of those Gazans (or Hezbollah-Syrian Baathists) entry into the US as refugees as well (State Department itself floated that piece of shit notion).
So about the only thing Israel can meaningfully do is run Gaza as an open air prison which has its own costs (internal and external). Remember how Israel was blamed for the Christian militia killing a bunch of Palestinians in Lebanon in a refugee camp). Any slaughter between factions in Gaza would be blamed on Israel for example.

Yes, it was graphic. It is only in these modern times that we shield our kids so much from realities of life and then wonder why they make the decisions they do. I don't believe we did them any favors when I see what our society has devolved to.

Angelina Jolie is nuttier than a fruitcake, but I had a friend who worked in DC, and admired her for pounding the pavement and making the rounds of their offices for the causes she supported for women and children abroad. Heard nothing but admiration for her work on that front.
Now her dad has all this political power, will she try to leverage it? They are super estranged because of his abandonment of her as a kid, and because of their clashing politics. He's expressed sadness he can't see his grandkids. Not sure if that will ever work itself out.
