Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Arson? It gets worse, reports Nellie Boles. When you create a lawless environment and turn the criminals and lunatics out of prisons and asylums en masse, you're going to have vicious and/or insane people setting fires during an arson, as vengeance on the world. And that's what's happening. I don't know how many of these fires were deliberately set by arsonists, but we know at least some were. More on that later. Infrastructure that could have provided more water for those fires has been on hold, tied up in red tape. Ten years ago, California voters approved spending $7.5 billion to build water storage and improve state water facilities--but by 2023 not one dam had been finished, per the Los Angeles Times. Not a single one. But a decade into various environmental regulations and reviews, they are moving. ... And what about controlled burns? Didn't they at least do that? No. "Forest Service Halts Prescribed Burns in California. Is It Worth the Risk?" reported KQED in October. See: If a controlled burn got messy, it would look bad, like, politically, and also, fire can be scary! So the U.S. Forest Service didn't do them. Here's Michael Wara, energy and climate expert at Stanford University, explaining: "I think the Forest Service is worried about the risk of something bad happening [with a prescribed burn]. And they're willing to trade that risk--which they will be blamed for--for increased risks on wildfires." Which, he says, can then just be blamed on "Mother Nature."Or "global warming." The left can't excuse its failures by reciting its catechisms of "global warming, global warming, global warming." They're the ones who have been warning us for fifty years that global warming will cause more environmental disasters. So obviously they believe in an elevated risk of wildfires due to "global warming." So riddle me this: Why do they take absolutely zero steps to mitigate the risks of the global warming they shriek about? Do they just want the fires to burn down whole cities so they can say "I told you so" and have fresh fuel for demands we outlaw, well, fuel? "Global warming" does not excuse their failure to take steps to clear the forest of deadfall. It indicts them further, because, by their own theory, global warming makes the need to practice prudent forest management even more urgent. Back to the arsonists that the left has cultivated in large numbers.

Wildfires are not about ignition, they are about conditions. If the conditions are right, ignition pretty much is going to happen.
That's why there should have been policies in place that designated National Guard units would be put on alert when wind conditions and dryness reached certain levels. Units could rotate this duty, but the assumption was that they would be ready to roll and assume pre-planned missions with local officials. The Guard has firefighting units, engineering units, and military police. It isn't complex or new. It is axiomatic that a disaster can bring a breakdown of civil society, especially in a place known for shoplifting gangs. This is either deliberate or criminally incompetent. It isn't good for terror because we are used to it. A good chunk of these fires are arson, or accidental arson. There are cases of firemen and chiefs setting fires here. Saw some on those real crime channels.
There really isn't a lot of lightning in LA when it rains. And of course it wasn't raining on the days these fires start. So for true accident there's a car on a road catching fire. If it isn't that its arson. Posted by: Oldcat at January 10, 2025 05:43 PM (n7h9X) 46
Man, I don't know. I suspect the only way they can get this under control now is- use good old-fashioned shoot to kill orders for looters and, most importantly, arsonists. Allow home-owners to protect their homes with lethal force as well. That would stop most of the problems instantly and they could concentrate on putting out the fires. Coming to the rescue of the LAFD, Canadian Fire Department planes chose to drop seawater since 'refilling' is more efficient, in contrast with the LAFD strategy to drop 'red retardant': "The red retardant they drop is a slurry, crews drop it around the edge of a fire. The rub is that it takes some time to refill those planes." "Aerial firefighting crews from Quebec, British Columbia Canada have been on the frontlines. Why with water shortages in LA, don't firefighters use water from the Pacific Ocean? These crews actually are. They've been landing their CL-415 Sea planes on the ocean, scooping up water, making a drop, then doing it all over again. These Canadians pilots are very experienced." Congratulations California government, you're crazier and more incompetent than Commie Canada. Californian 'leadership' cannot understand the caveman level basic concept of 'bring the water to the fire'. LAFD chose not to drop saltwater even as a last resort to save thousands of burning buildings due to 'environmental concerns', but will drop Red phosphorous which is debatably worse for the environment than saltwater. === Thanks [?] for the compliment. I'm theorizing there is a curve where on the low end of compensation, you get poor results from the public servant. Results increase as you increase the pay, but the curve starts flattening at some point, and then at a certain point results plummet if you go even further up the pay axis. Not sure why this would happen, maybe the focus shifts from the job to enjoying the fruits of being fabulously rich.
I would guess that most of mid to senior level California public servants are compensated past the point of caring about their job. Posted by: Chuck Martel at January 10, 2025 05:53 PM (fs1hN) 111

I don't want to hear that "they're only shooting minorities." If only the minorities are looting, then only the minorities will be shot. Simple, really. On Sept. 8 2020 a fire (the Almeda fire) swept through Phoenix, Oregon, about fifteen miles from my house. It was a "red flag" day with high winds and tinder-dry vegetation. Or perhaps I should say it was THE red flag day, because there weren't any other red flag days that season.
The fire started in the upper Bear Creek drainage, which is a total wind tunnel in all seasons. I mean, if you wanted to burn down the whole Rogue River Valley, that's exactly where and when you'd start it. There were rumors that an arsonist had been apprehended. There were also rumors that Antifa was involved (2020). There were also rumors that the authorities wouldn't confirm the fire was set deliberately, because that wouldn't be covered by insurance. There was another major fire the same day, further up the valley, and another couple-dozen-acres fire in the Bear Creek Greenway in downtown Medford just three days later. The main effect of the Greenway fire was to destroy most of the homeless camps in the city. It was all one hell of a coincidence. Posted by: Bombadil at January 10, 2025 06:15 PM (MX0bI) 231

Look at it this way: Voting has not mattered in California for a very long time. Its run by the Democrat Party machine. Remove one idiot and they will replace the idiot with a more malevolent and retarded one. Current leadership is this: Create conditions for maximum disaster since more death and destruction result in more federal money. The way the game is rigged is that Babylon DC gives away the greatest prizes to governments that are the most demonic. Cause $10M in damage, yawn, cause $10B in damage get some FEMA money injected into government. Cause $100B and you get your own new agency and $$$ of tax dollars to wreak even greater havoc. Hundreds and thousands of people losing everything and dying is just collateral damage - few broken eggs for the omelet. And frankly, it's very Progressive to laugh at people who have just lost everything, simply because they're brainwashed idiots. We're better than that on this side. Conservatives should own the High Ground, not be splashing around in the moral mud with leftists. Posted by: Tammy-al Thor at January 10, 2025 06:44 PM (Vvh2V) 326
You can tell if a .22 is fired from a Marlin rifle or a Ruger, but not which Marlin or which Ruger fired it etc. After a few shots the lead bullets fill in the distinctive machining marks on the barrel. You also can't do ballistics on a 9mm from a Glock with an octagonal barrel - the barrels aren't machined, so they don't leave characteristic marks on the bullet. However the cartridges ejected from those glocks can be matched to the particular pistol. Always police up your brass.

I recognize the armored Humvees, but I don't recognize the bigger vehicles. Looks like some have .30-cal machine guns mounted. (Of course, whether they have the bolts is a different matter). Posted by: Retired Buckeye Cop is now an engineer at January 10, 2025 06:18 PM (pJWtt) JLTVs, they're the Humvee replacement. They're also a really easy way to identify the company commander's vehicle, because there's no frickin' way that an Army ring-knocker is gonna ride in a beat up old Hummer like a common infantry soldier when a brand new JLTV is available instead. 'Any chance the fires passed over houses with Trump flags flying?' IDK but someone should start a rumor. Posted by: Dr. Claw at January 10, 2025 06:46 PM (3wi/L) 329
18-1: I think the epitome of all this is the ad where a female firefighter is asked if she could pull someone's husband out of a fire and she responds, "Well if he got himself in a bad spot..." which I assume means no.
And isn't that what you really want to hear from the top leadership of a life-saving business? What an excellent hire. Top So, all you dying in a fire or in a car crash? Tough luck, buddy. You shouldn't have been there. What the heck are you doing all living your life and everything? Can you not predict your accidents or unknown or unavoidable vulnerabilities in every millisecond of your life? Whatdoyawant? Someone to save you? Just die already. I have a flag to fly. That s/he isn't fired yesterday is yet another scandal. S/he's not just unfit; s/he's pathologic. Posted by: AnonyBotymousDrivel Remembers Babbitt and Perna at January 10, 2025 06:50 PM (aXxgO) 330
