Christmas Eve Cafe

Here's a fun popular historian explaining how Christmas traditions came to be. The Christmas tree comes from the pre-Christian practice of putting up a tall tree in the town square and... hanging apples from it, which people could take from the boughs and eat. So that's what ornaments are symbolizing.

Another cool fact he brings up is that the "yule log" was an actual log, or trunk, of six to ten feet long. One corner of the log was put on the fireplace, the rest was outside of the fireplace, laying on the floor. The idea was to burn the yule log for all twelve days of Yule (and then, the twelve days of Christmas). One log can't last that long, so the family would just put it in the fire for a certain amount of time every night, so that the end of the log would be burned on the twelfth night.

Interestingly, Hanukah also features the tradition of extending a fuel source for a number of days (eight in the case of Hanukah). I have no idea if these ideas are related or it's just a case of great minds thinking a light.

This is a great example of what I mentioned earlier. The media is trying to gaslight and drive their own followers as insane as possible. They did this before from 2017-2020. We don't know it's happening really, we just sense it when we hear from them.

That's one thing I miss about living in NY . My Italian friend would invite me to her Feast. She owned a restaurant and catering business so she knew what she was doing . Never heard of it when I was in Louisiana.

Well, shoot, the Equation of Time just zeroed at about 4:30PM EST. I missed it. This being a leap year pushed it to the 24th, rather than Christmas Day.

Christmas Day is (usually) one of the four days per year when you can set your clock by the sun exactly without correction. The other three days are Tax Day, April 15th, June 13th, and Sept 1.

Back when I was doing the Lutheran thing, they had a candlelight Christmas service with carols that was just outstanding.

If the grandkids were older, we would have done the Midnight Mass, which is always awesome. One of the best features was that the kids in peak "Santa range" crashed right out upon returning home. Some didn't even make it out of the car awake.

They tested by dipping animals into it for a period of time. No issues. I have arthritis in my big toe. (Have it in many other spots, but this has affected my walking. Stops the pain and unlocks the joints instantly. It is supposed to be very useful dealing with strokes.

I quoted that from memory from when it appeared to be the magic cure for everything. All I can find are rat experiments (some not even in vivo) that claim no damage based on excretion of markers. I don't have access to medical lit.
It's a liquid absorbed readily through the skin. It dissolves both hydrophobic compounds and hydrophilic compounds and carries them through membranes (skin too). It's going to change the filtration properties of the glomeruli. Whether this is permanent or not I can't find anything at the moment. Any medics shed any more light?

294 DMSO was treated like ivermectin. That link is from Midwestern Doctor's Substack, giving the history of what they did. And they had hoped it would drliver insulin to the bloodstream. That doesn't work. They caution that you wash your hands and the area before applying.

Funny isn't it. We're scared out of using DMSO, but they were more than willing to put me on statins because my LDL was a bit high. I told them I'd change my diet. Statins are a major health risk.

Years ago, when hubby first got his Harley... and HD had teevee ads with Santa throwing presents under the tree...

I couldn't find black wrapping paper anywhere! So, spray painted a bunch of butcher paper flat black, and wrapped hub's presents with that. (Tools, saddle bags, etc.) Had some black curling ribbon leftover from a previous, uh, gift-giving LOL but that's another story.

Hubs was *thrilled* and LHAO as I tumbled his gifts toward the tree.

And it would not surprise me to learn that that is one piece of the "data" cited by anti-DMSO authorities.

I don't really have a dog in this hunt, but it seems pretty clear the stuff is mostly safe, if used responsibly. Not sudden death in a bottle, but like any other drug, can cause problems if taken in massive doses for a prolonged period.

We've been slow in getting ready for Christmas this year. I finally got all the candles put up in the windows. A tradition that I brought with me from my years in New Hampshire.

It was an amazing sight taking walks at night during the Christmas season in the more "colonial" looking areas with deep snow and the warm candle glow.

I've seen it a few times over the years. Funny how Roger Ebert said it was an "out of body experience" when it came out. Later he would compare "Star Wars" to it.

345 Brother and I watched Logan's Run on the drive-in screen. We lived behind the drive-in, and Dad told us not to watch the movie in our backyard. We chose to see a wink and a nod. Mom would have been more stridently opposed.

347 Interestingly, Hanukah also features the tradition of extending a fuel source for a number of days (eight in the case of Hanukah). I have no idea if these ideas are related or it's just a case of great minds thinking a light.

For those who don't know, Hannuka predates Christmas, and is strictly a Jewish holyday conceived in Israel and has no roots in paganism. What happened in Hannuka is that when the 1st Temple was finally cleaned from the Selucid Greek influence by the Jews, they only had enough pure oil to keep the great Menorah lit for one day. G-d then allowed this oil to burn for 8 days so more pure oil could be made, thus the miracle of the 8 days

That being said, however, the main idea behind Hannukah is one of religious freedom and the right to worship one's religion free from tyranny and oppression.
